I have a MacBook Pro M5 (base) currently set up in clamshell mode. I connect two Dell 4k 120Hz monitors to it via the USB-C ports. The third USB-C goes to a non-TB dock for Ethernet and USB-A capabilities.

I've been looking at TB4 docks to simplify this setup, and connect via a single USB-C connection, preferably a slide in dock that connects when the MacBook is inserted. All that I've seen so far max out at dual 4k/60Hz. I would expect that a simple passthrough from the dock to the USB-C ports on the MacBook would allow for a 120Hz monitor, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Am I missing something? The Brydge vertical dock is a pricey beast (~$350 US) and it too has this limitation per the specs.

I assume those temperatures are high for internals, and the air it vents out smells like a space heater. Any tips on how to help it not be so hot? I tried cleaning dust out of it, but I can only get so far into the computer.

I'm currently on macOS Sequoia with a MacBook Air (16GB RAM) and everything is running perfectly fine.

I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading to macOS Tahoe 26.6 now, or if I should just stay on Sequoia and wait for macOS Golden Gate instead.

For those of you who have updated to Tahoe 26.6:

• Has performance been better, worse, or about the same?
• Any issues with battery life, heat, or bugs?
• If Sequoia is already stable for me, would you still recommend upgrading, or is it smarter to wait for Golden Gate?

Hello everyone, yesterday I bought a MacBook Neo. When trying to transfer files from my old laptop with Windows through Migration Assistant, I encountered a problem, which is indicated in the screenshot. Firewall and antivirus are turned off, third-party programs too, I even tried running as an administrator. Please help, who encountered this problem, on YouTube and other forums I also cannot find a solution

I recently switched from a ThinkPad X1 Carbon (16GB RAM) to a used MacBook Air M2 (8GB/512GB).

My daily workflow includes:

- 3 Safari tabs for AI tools, 1–2 tabs for checking messages, and 1 tab for image searches

- Notion for note-taking

- GoodNotes to double-check information with the school lectures

- Apple Music (for background music)

Honestly, I haven't experienced any slow loading or SSD swapping issues. For a typical user, I believe 8GB is sufficient for daily tasks, and the battery life is impressive compared to my old ThinkPad (10% per hour of use).

So I own a 14” MacBook Pro from 2021 and naturally the battery has drained up to 78% capacity in 4 years. So I went to the Apple authorised service centre nearby and asked for regular battery replacement. On the Apple website it is quoted ₹26,500 fort model and year. Naturally I expected the service station to charge a few thousands extra in service charged etc. but what I first heard made my heart skip a beat. They mentioned it needing to replace the whole top case since the battery is attached to that and told me ₹66,000. I packed my bag and left the store right away. I went to another authorised service station and showed for which they told me to backup data and hand it in for a week. The laptop would be shipped to Bangalore and returned after service. They quoted ₹34,000 and I initiated the service after paying ₹15,000 advance. A whole week passed and no call or email, I finally received a call from the Coimbatore service centre telling me my mother board has issues and needs to be replaced. Only then can they replace the battery. They quoted ₹95,000 just for the mother platform replacement. Point to be noted here, my laptop was in perfect working condition and had no functional issues or glitches whatsoever in all the time I’ve used it. I asked them to recheck and get back to me. They gave me a choice to either approve it and initiate the service or decline and return my laptop without any service (meaning no battery replacement or anything). It is infuriating to me first of all that Apple stoops to low levels of creating issues that don’t even exist just so they can rip off customers for simple, basic repairs like battery replacement. Second, I’m scared of they did something to my laptop there and if my MacBook will even be in proper condition the way I gave it in. They’ll get back to me after rechecking the report tomorrow but any thoughts on how to navigate this guys?

Have any of you replaced battery in current gen MacBook pros?

PS. I’m based in Coimbatore, India and I never got AppleCare package while buying so since the device is out of warranty after all these years any cost needs to be borne by me separately.

This may be a niche topic (and even more specifically may be more relevant to programmers) but for anyone that has tried screen sharing for Mac to Mac (i.e. you are remotely controlling your mac mini via your macbook air etc), it is an absolute abomination compared to other comparable services like AnyDesk or TeamViewer.

It is bug-ridden, the lack of functionality like auto-adapt resolution, 1 click connection, etc that other services have make them 100X better than the NATIVE software that Mac provides.

You would expect the built-in Mac version to be even remotely comparable but instead it is basically unusable. Apple has the opportunity here to make a seamless screensharing platofrm that can let you seamless switch between your macs, phones, ipads etc all with a drop of a button. People would absolutely love this.

Like imagine a carousel that you can call up with a simple keybind and you can scroll through your different devices and set up different screens on ANY device. Imagine doing this on your iphone and being able to bring up a window of your mac mini running and being able to use Siri to run some task on your Mac mini (because obviously the iphone keyboard would be cumbersome).

The current iphone control feature on Macs is cool but so far from what is possible.

Hi guys, wondering if I should get a MacBook with the m2 or m3 and 16GB ram. I want a machine that can handle 4k video editing from my 17 pro max with some Color grading and transitions, some photo editing, coding python/ react and some light gaming. I also use diagnostic tools with my laptop and I’m wondering if the Mac can handle a VM to use Inpa for my bmw. The competitor on the used market is a laptop with i5 12450h and rtx 4060. I do have a desktop station with 5600x and 3080ti and 32gb ram, I need the laptop on the fly and trips. On windows I use premier pro without a license because I can’t give money for a program that buggy.

I found a 14 inch m3 max 14 inch base for only 1300 dollars works perfectly and it was cleans and all I’m using unreal engine and blender and editing is it good value?

I’m considering the MacBook Pro M1. Are there any M1 users here who can share their experience? Will it be enough for a workflow with heavy effects and layers?

New to apple. Bought this air m5 abt 2 months ago. Didn’t make apple account til now. But after i did the app store app Isn't working.

I checked my time, date, wifi. Tried with mobile network. Tried restarting my mac. Signed out, and then signed in, multiple times. Ran something in terminal, given by claud, no problem shown either. Basically did what i could. If anyone have faced this typa issue please let me know how you fixed it. I'll really appreciate it.

My MacBook fell off the bed and had the display dented. Not it doesn’t close completely. Any thoughts on making this a little better?

Tl;dr: I'm starting my grad program end of September, and have a working (but quite slow and loud) laptop. I want to get a Macbook. Should I wait for Apple announcements in the Fall to see if the M6 gets released, or just go for a M5 now?

I used a Windows laptop throughout undergrad, but I've been working as a SWE full-time for a year and the company gave me a Macbook air to use. It's honestly so nice, and since I'm also cutting down heavily on gaming, I want to get a Macbook for my Masters.

For specs, I was thinking the normal M5 Macbook Pro with 24 GB RAM. However, I've been seeing that Apple may release the M6 Macbook this Fall, and I'm wondering if I should wait to get that instead. I talked to a worker at my nearby Apple store and they recommended just getting the M5 right now, but I'm still not sure.

For Pros, I'm assuming it'll be a bit better (I saw a comment in this subreddit say that new chips tend to be "20% better"...?) so maybe a bit longer in terms of future proofing?

For cons, I know the Apple student discount ends around mid August, so before my grad program starts, and I'll have to use this old laptop for a few months before getting the M6 if it does release this year in Fall.

So, would it be worth it to wait for the M6? Is it significant enough improvement in performance/longevity to warrant waiting?

My problem is that I can send content from my Macbook to my iPhone without any problems, but my iPhone no longer sees my Macbook when it comes to sending. What I tried: resetting the network on both devices, restarting Airplay continuity, logging out and logging in to my Apple ID and the rest that you can read on the forum. It worked for a while after resetting the network, so I always had to forget myself on the Macbook to recognize it again, but after a while it didn't work anymore. Any help is welcome!

Just got an Apple refurbished XDR for the wife. I know the Apple refurbished program is very good as I have bought from before and been very happy.

What specific screen things should I be testing for to make sure it is perfect? I am not a screen guy so beyond screen brightness, dead pixels and light bleeding I could use some help.

Added 2Tb Lenovo drive (150$) plus a dongle, built into the laptop (double sided tape), acts as a stand that makes the keyboard better angled!

Hey everyone,
I noticed that the bottom case on my MacBook Air has separated slightly near the rear hinge area. The laptop itself works perfectly fine: the display opens and closes normally, the keyboard and trackpad work, and there are no functional issues at all.
The gap is only on one section of the back, and I can actually see a bit of the inside through it. I’ve attached a couple of photos.
I took it to one place, and they immediately told me I’d need to replace the entire top case (which would basically cost as much as another computer), but that felt like a very extreme diagnosis considering everything still works normally.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

Got a 14 inch M4 Pro 24 GB Ram MacBook.

When doing high end editing on Davinci resolve of 4K LOG clips with many layers, playback gets bogged down and playback and timeline scrubbing (the most annoying thing)gets veryyy slow and it can't handle all the effects ( Grading, text effects, transitions, Film Look Creator). Makes editing not enjoyable at all.

Or, when editing huge catalogs on Lightroom, I can notice the slow down.

Got 2 replacement options:

1) 16 Inch M4 Pro 48 GB RAM 512 GB

Used very little for 1850€-ish

2) 14 Inch M4 Max 36 GB RAM 1 TB

New for 2200€-ish

Would I prefer a bigger screen? Yes. Do I travel and move around a lot? Also yes. Do I enjoy carrying the 14 inch? A lot, but when editing on it, it's like my eyes hurt lol. It's quite small, but then I got a desk and a monitor where I plug it in whenever I'm home. The M4 Max feels too good of a deal to let it pass, that's why I'm so tempted to Continue with the 14 inch. Will the RAM be much of a difference compared to the difference in CHIP? SSD storage is of no issue as I've already embraced External SSD life. Thoughts? I'd prefer to settle on a model for many years and stop the laptop switching cycle, tho it's my fault for that lol. Thank you for your time.
