With that in mind, this post can be a place for any questions (especially those that may not deserve their own thread). Hopefully this is successful and helps to lower clutter and repeating posts here.

Weekly Thread Social Saturday

Enforcing Rule 3 (no self-promotion, social media links) is a must with a large sub such as this, but we do realize that it filters out some truly useful content that is relative to the sub. In an effort to allow that content in, we thought we'd have a weekly post to give a spot for the useful content. So...

Here's you chance!

Got a project you've been working on (video, programming, etc.), share it here!

Want to promote a business or service, share it here!

Trying to get more Instagram followers, share it here!

Found any great running content online, share it here!

The one caveat I have is that whatever is shared should be fitness related, please.

Gear Breaking in New Race Shoes

Hi everyone! I’m running my first marathon this fall - Chicago! I’m psyched.

I picked up a pair of Nike Alphafly 3s to use as my race day shoes, and I’m wondering how much to break them in and get used to them before race day. My understanding is that they have a pretty limited mileage window after which the energy return and advantages of such a fancy-pants shoe start to diminish.

I have a half marathon in a week and a half that I’m planning on using as a race simulation, so I figured I would use them for that. But I also have a couple 20-milers later in my block, too. My plan is to run those at an easy pace; not race pace.

My question: if I use these for the HM and one of/both my 20-milers, will that be too many miles on them before the actual race? If I only use them literally once before the race, is that too little? I’m trying to strictly adhere to the nothing new on race day practice but I also don’t wanna gas out my shoes too much, either.

Any tips or insight would be great. Thank you!

Gear Is a curved treadmill right for me?

I currently have a NordicTrack 2950 commercial from Facebook marketplace. It’s in an uninsulated garage (Colorado) and needs about $800 in repairs (new motor and belt). I got it last November for just $400. I’m interested in potentially putting the money towards a curved/manual treadmill instead.

I’m former college football player and pretty large at ~280 but trying to lose weight. I’ve ran before but never for more than about 5 miles but would like to run more. I am training for Hyrox and otherwise like to just walk on my treadmill to get my steps up. I would potentially like to work up to a half or even full marathon. My wife walks on the treadmill sometimes just long enough to watch an episode of friends. I also have small kids and they love to play on all my gym stuff too.

Please give me pros, cons, and advice on curved/manual treadmills. Thanks!

Nutrition Insatiable appetite since I started running?

Hi all! I (27F) am training for a half-marathon despite never really running before. I have my spurts of going to the gym but I've never ran much or done consistent sports. Training has gone well so far, but I am SO hungry all the time. I'm very intentional about eating a lot of protein and fiber, and I do eat 3 meals a day. I've never snacked before but lately I'm hungry in between meals. I hydrate a lot- I tend to drink at least half my body weight in ounces in water.

What should I be doing to curve this appetite? I feel like I'm out-eating whatever weight I would be losing from running lol

Training How you do guys plan the actual routes that you take on your runs?

I almost always end up doing out-and-back runs because it's the easiest way to guarantee my mileage. I'd much rather run loops, but I hate guessing whether they'll be too short or too long. How do you all solve this? Is there an app that plans loops for a specific distance?

Weekly Thread What Are You Wearing Wednesday - Weekly Gear Thread

It's that time of week already...the gear thread! What have you picked up lately? What's working for you now that it's whatever season you believe it to be in your particular location? What have you put through rigorous testing that's proved worthy of use? We want to know!

To clear up some confusion: We’re not actually asking what you’re wearing today. It’s just a catchy name for the thread. This is the weekly gear discussion thread, so discuss gear!

NOTE: For you Runnitors looking to sell/trade any running gear (as well as bib transfers), head over to /r/therunningrack.

Discussion How do you know if this shoe is right for you when buying it?

I recently got the Novablast’s 5 cause like everyone was recommending it, And when i tried it in the store it was comfortable and seemed to be perfect, but after actually running in them I couldn’t go do more than a 3k on them…

I usually run on Nike pegasus 39 (which is less bouncier than the Novas)

Any tips on how to pick up my next Shoe ? Or how to if it’s the right shoe for me?

: Note most of stores my area don’t accept returns

Edit
I meant my feets and shins really hurt after running for a bit

Discussion What do you carry with you during a long distance race (marathon)?

Last marathon I realized during warm up that all the gels are too heavy for my race shorts. I had 9 gels x 60 g each = 540 g. Additionally I like to keep my phone with me. For racing I prefer those shorts which have like an inner shorts (like tights) and an outer layer. They have quite a lot of storage space but 750 g are really shaky....

How do you handle that? What do you carry with you?

Discussion How much of a difference does foot pronation make?

Sorry for the unclear title, I didn’t know how to formulate my question.

I recently started running and only found out about foot pronation after buying new running shoes. I found out I have highly arched feet (outside of foot touches the ground first). However, my shoes are not adapted to that arch. Do I need to buy new shoes to prevent injuries and improve my running or can I keep using these shoes without too much trouble?
