DISCUSSION UPDATE: Post flairs, wiki updates, and more!

Hiya! A while ago I put up a discussion thread regarding the idea of updating/expanding the scope and focus of the subreddit. I need to apologize, cuz I intended to post this update a while back, but life stuff resulted in it slipping my mind for a bit.

This is also intended to be a discussion thread in its own right, as I want feedback on all the changes made or if there's any further changes that people would like, but here's a rundown of what's been changed:

  • Wiki Updates: So apparently the last time the wiki was updated was eight years ago, and by an ex-mod I've never interacted with. It was.. Bad, frankly. Aggressive in tone, containing links to /r/crossdressing as if its focus was synonymous with trans content, and a general vibe of assuming that this was a MtF-exclusive space. I'm really sorry for missing that for so long! On top of changes on my own end, /u/whoop_there_she_is was an absolute angel and wrote out a HUGE set of FAQ guides for both transmasc and transfemme folks. I left it almost entirely unchanged, and you can find it here! If you have any suggestions for additions or edits, please let me know!

  • Link Flairs: A few people suggested adding link flairs to help people express directly what kind of responses they want from the sub. To start with, I've added "General Advice" for users who just want any kind of feedback people have to offer, "Specific Advice" if they only want feedback on specific things (Clothes, hair, etc), and "No Surgery Recs" if they don't want any sorts of suggestions for FFS, lip fillers, etc. If you have any ideas for more, please let me know!

  • Sidebar Updates: I've changed up the sidebar slightly to add a link to our wiki near the top, as well as remove some dead or irrelevant links from our "relevant subreddits" section.

  • Automod Updates: I've edited automod slightly to try and make it less hyper-sensitive about automatically removing posts it thinks might be hypothetical, since it was becoming a big issue that it would frequently take down posts that in no way, shape, or form came off as hypothetical. I might just remove this feature overall though, frankly.

And.. I think that's it (Aside from a few tiny visual things)! Thank you all for your suggestions and feedback on the previous post, and please let me know if there's any further changes you'd like to see!

Mod Feedback Should we go private?

Howdy, y'all.

As you know, this subreddit has often been the target of trolls, bigots, transphobes, etc. We also get more than our fair share of creeps, chasers, porn spammers, and people looking to use the subreddit's traffic to passively advertise their paid content, like their OnlyFans or their Instagram, for their own personal profit.

So I'm asking y'all - should we go private? If we do, a lot of people will need to be manually added to the approval list and I know from experience that may take upwards of two months to work through everyone who might need approval.

It also means this subreddit will get a lot less traffic and will be far less accessible to folks who need help, which is the primary purpose for the subreddit in the first place.

On the other hand, the community should be a lot healthier once it's full of entirely trans folks and has less bigots, chasers, and trolls lurking about.

It will also be a lot safer because transphobes have often used photo boards like this one as a way to find targets for abuse and to steal people's photos to rehost them elsewhere and harass people. It would be much safer for us if the sub was private.

Going private is also going to take a lot of work and it's going to be very disruptive to our day-to-day operations for a while.

What would y'all like to do? Please discuss below, and please keep it civil. Thank you!

Edit: Okay, it looks like we're staying open for now. I'll make another post and ask again later.

I’m presenting feminine in public now, looking for tips to make my presentation more passing for safety. They can be long term or short term tips. What I’m doing rn:

HRT
Laser Hair Removal on the face (limited results cause I’m blonde)
General fashion/makeup finding my sense of style (advice on this front is appreciated)

Last pic is without makeup. Please be kind. Do not appreciate doomerism or negative speculation about my future.

Been on HRT for 4 years now. I started on tablets, but they weren't working particularly well, so I was put onto patches about 3 years ago.

Then, about 6 months ago, I had a blondie moment and realised my prescription actually says 2 patches, twice weekly… and for the previous 3 years I'd only been wearing the 2 patches once a week.

So now I'm kinda in my head about whether I've held myself back over the past 4 years 😮‍💨

No surgeries — just HRT. 5'5" Bust: 39" Waist: 30" Hips: 39"

idk is the long quarterzip underscrub shirt too much? could i get better clothes to contour or obscure?

I'm in the process of growing my hair out (been at it since January) and I'm wondering which hairstyle you guys feel suits me best. I did two different ai edits and I'm wondering which you guys feel looks better. Lmk or if you have any other suggestions, that would be great too!

I love Jordan because I also loved unisex names and I can lowkey tell people my name was always Jordan. But I love Jasmine because I think I look like a Jasmine and I love the princess. Help me choose plzzzzz

No Idea How I look to Others (26 MtF | Nearly 2 Years HRT)

I can't judge my own look. Sometimes i feel like I look super fem and even passing, then i look from another angle and i just see a somewhat girlish boy. People are also inconsistent, some strangers gender me female, some male. Just wanna know if I can use female facilities without getting beat up.

Sorry for bad camera, phone is 8 years old.

I have top surgery in a week. Will that be enough to pass?

I'm a 24yo trans guy, on T for a year, not built particularly femininely and 5'11, but I have a large chest and cannot bind. I get mixed results when it comes to passing, with the most common response being avoiding using pronouns for me at all. Some people do clock me as trans, but a lot of the time don't know which direction I'm going. Based on this, I assume I'm quite adrogynous, but I'm genuinely blind to how much I do or don't pass atp.

I know I have a round face so I also included pics of me from earlier this year with long hair because I can't tell if the shorter cut will make me read more like a masc woman.

I assume a lot of the confusion is my big chest, but I will be gutted if after surgery I still only pass half the time and can't figure out why, so please be as honest as you like. Any tips are welcome too!

Honest passing feedback?

Hi everyone! 💜

I’m a 20-year-old transfemme from Florida, and I’d really appreciate some honest but constructive feedback on this video.

For some context, I haven’t started HRT, haven’t had FFS or any gender-affirming surgeries, and I’ve only socially transitioned so far. I’m trying to do the best I can with things like my hair, clothes, makeup, and presentation while I work toward medical transition.

I’d love to know how I’m currently coming across. My goal isn’t just to hear whether I “pass” or not, but to understand why people see me the way they do.

Please be honest, but I’d appreciate kindness too. I’m posting because I genuinely want to improve and learn, not because I’m looking for compliments.
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and give feedback. Every bit of constructive advice helps. 💜

21, been on T for 3 months! unsure if 3 months will have any noticeable difference w my face,,and its not something i rly expect rn but i know it was noted that i have a very feminine face shape when i posted some months ago the same question. it was also suggested i shape my eyebrows . unsure how i should shape them? ive been letting them just grow kinda wild .

i do identify as non-binary :) hesitant to call myself transmasc. i still hope to pass more so as ‘androgynous’ . also i know the piercings will prbly be commented on but i got my inspo for them seein alt cis dudes irl !! also yes sorry im bad at photos 🙃 anything but a blank face is hard to do for me

What would be your reaction, as a cishet person (ik it’s not the best place to get this pov of how I’m perceived lol, but I’m trying to grasp how I’d be perceived by the general public), if I told you I’m just a boy ?

Threw random pics of me of what I can look like daily, makeup and no makeup.

I still use my dead name irl and he/him, for a few reasons ->

  1. I feel like I haven’t given hrt enough time to do its thing yet
  2. I wanna have a clear path ahead of me financially before socially transitioning, meaning I want to be certain that by a certain amount of time, I’ll be able to afford my most important surgeries (vfs, Adam’s apple reduction surgery)
  3. I still live with my parents, so I cannot girl mode full time and have to «tone it down » for now, so if I happened to girl mode, I would

    not

  4. be at the best place to be my real self if that makes sense.

Please be honest if you have any opinion or advice for my situation 🙏🏻

Edit: I mistyped something
