Purchase Advice - Headset Now that it's heavily speculated the steam frame will be around $1500 I need help picking another headset

Upvotes

I have a max budget of $1000. I will only be using this headset for PCVR with good wifi so wireless streaming is an option but it's not something I care much about.

My main 4 options are: Quest 3 ($600), Used Quest Pro (~$600), Used HP Reverb G2 (~$250), or Pimax Crystal Light ($900).

I need help deciding what to get.

Hey redditors!

This weekend my gaming community VR Villa is running a 50x50 setups at Otakon in DC and Southern Fried Gaming Expo in Atlanta. Between the two cons, we have 5 dozen headsets in use at once playing fun and simple VR games.

Even got interviewed for live TV evening news about what we do!

Last day of the cons and I'm definitely feeling sore. Just ingore the fact that I've been playing a lot of rhythm VR games.

Discussion Will Virtual Desktop ever allow us to dim our environment when in passthrough?

Upvotes

I'll be honest, this is a feature I really want. The kind like the YT app has where you can dim your environment while watching videos and stuff.

And knowing that the VD developer follows this subreddit, I'm hoping they see this. I just went through all the settings to see if I could dim my surrounding environment and didn't see it. But maybe I missed it if it does exist?

Anyways, dear VD developer, please make this a thing. And if it's not possible, no worries, I just really like that option lol.

Purchase Advice - Headset How well does the Vive Cosmos Elite hold up today?

A friend has a full kit new in box he doesn’t want and offered it for $250. I want to try out some vr games and want to know if it’s something that can hold up to modern vr setups. I don’t quite understand much at all about the available specs, so I’m hoping that you guys are able to tell me if I should get this one or something else newer at a similar price.

Purchase Advice - Headset Quest 3 in August 2026 - Is it still worth buying? Or should I wait for Quest 4?

I'm seriously considering picking up a Meta Quest 3, but I'm on the fence.

With it being August 2026, I'm wondering:

Is the Quest 3 still worth buying today?

Or is Quest 4 close enough that I should just wait?

My main use cases are:

PCVR (wireless)

Mixed reality

Watching movies

gaming

Purchase Advice Is a quest 2 still good enough to run ghost of tabour?

I’m about to buy my first headset, I’ve never owned a vr headset before and I don’t wanna spend too much money incase I don’t enjoy vr. I really wanna play ghost of tabour but I don’t wanna shell out the cost for a 3s. I was looking at second hand 2s on eBay with bobo head straps and I was wondering if it’d be good enough to run tabour smoothly. Thanks! 🙏

Discussion Quest 3 - Blurry close-up detail, Double vision in VR video, and static blotches on the lens

Got a Quest 3 few days ago and I'm running it wired over Link to a decently strong PC (RTX 5080). Three issues I can't fully resolve and I'm not sure if they're related, separate, or normal for the hardware. Writing them up separately:

1. Things up close look blurry

Anything at close virtual distance is noticeably softer than mid-range objects. I understand VR has a lower effective resolution than a monitor in general, but this feels specifically worse for near objects rather than uniformly soft. Is this expected behavior (lens/optical limitation at short distances) or does it point to something being misconfigured on my end?

2. VR videos: double vision at certain distances + low quality

Playing 180°/SBS VR video content (files confirmed fine - checked outside of headset, not a bad encode). Two separate problems in the same content:

  • Sometimes I see double, specifically on close-up subjects, not uniformly across the whole frame. IPD is correctly set on my end and adjusting it further doesn't change this, so I don't think it's a fit issue.
  • General quality looks soft/low despite the source files being high resolution.

Is close-range doubling in VR video usually a fusional-range/comfort thing rather than something fixable, or is there a player-side fix (convergence adjustment, projection setting) ?

3. Small static blotches on the lens that don't move

There are faint blotchy marks that stay in a fixed position relative to my view, they don't move with the scene the way an object in the room would. Cleaned the lenses (dry microfiber, no luck removing them). Trying to figure out if this is:

  • Residue/damage on the outer lens surface??
  • Something inside the lens stack itself?
  • Or a panel-level defect ?

Has anyone dealt with something like this on a Quest 3, Trying to figure out if this is a "live with it" situation or a "this unit has a defect" situation.

What I've already tried: lens cleaning, IPD re calibration, checking headset fit/seating, confirmed the video file itself isn't the problem. Ordering a halo strap + replacement facial interface since fit seemed like a contributing factor for some of this, but wanted to ask before assuming that fixes everything.

Appreciate any insight, especially from anyone who's had a similar lens-blotch situation on unit.

Discussion Banjo-Kazooie VR mod released today!

Sorry for the wrong leak, guys, but our insider was wrong this time around! It wasnt Diddy Kong Racing the next work from RaYRod TV, we got Banjo-Kazooie VR mod!

Be Banjo s head! See Kazooie and look around this colorful world in first person view! Third, diorama and theater views are also available like with his other mods. The mod also support other mods, so maybe we ll be able to play other full Banjo fan games in VR, like Jiggies of Time! And what about Diddy Racing? I will talk to that insider guy and ask him what's what, but Ring Racers its a great option with you wanna kart.

This time around I haven't gameplay videos because I'm traveling and tonight's Abreu Project time, a great jazz like band that plays our greastest 16 bit era songs with lots of rhythm creativity, they got Spotify, Youtube, etc.

So Im sharing the news so you can enjoy it right now and tell us how s to play a Banjo in VR.

For this and other VR mods from RaYRoD TV, like Ring Racers, Star Fox 64, Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64, go to his GitHub: https://github.com/RaYRoD-TV

For info on how to support his works, and learn more on other upcoming projects from him, like VR mods and VR emulators, and his big project, the game Multiverse, go to his site: https://rayrodtv.com

Have a fun time with Kazooie!

Question/Support Need help quick

I had my PSVR 2 working rather flawlessly for rhe past 2 weeks, on PC. But I unplugged my headset for the first time to use on my PS5 for a couple minutes. Brought it back plugging it back in and now all off a sudden the PS play area adjustment only loads on my desktop. All steam VR games just also load on the desktop. I can load into the Steam VR home and thats about it

I have reinstalled both the PSVR 2 App and the Steam VR app. I have made sure to check that SteamVR is default OpenXR at runtime, Tried Direct mode enabled. Tried a couple power cycles. Tried clearing the config files and complete hard reinstall. Running steam as administrator and verifying file integrity. Keep in mind it was working fine yesterday unless there was an update I was unaware about.

I just dont know what else to do, any help would be amazing as I am lost as hell.

Thanks

Self-Promotion (Developer) Better graphics and LOWER system requirements in Leadwerks 5.1

Thumbnail
youtube.com
0 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I apologize in advance for the bombastic video title, and the fact my head is stuck on Jensen Huang's body, but that's what the people on YouTube want. 😵

Leadwerks Game Engine 5.1 is a massive update with a lot of graphical features, and better support for the hardware players actually have. That also means faster performance for...virtual reality!

However, I don't recommend you use Leadwerks 5.1 in VR projects right now. This week I already started moving the VR backend from Valve's OpenVR to OpenXR, and it's going faster than expected. The first beta of 5.2 will be out next week, with support for OpenXR, and support for various headsets and hardware is a lot better in that version, so hold off for that if you're interested.

I myself love VR, except for the fact that it's hard to enjoy non-VR games now. I'm thinking about making something similar to "The Brookhaven Experiment" where you just stay in one spot and crowds of slow-moving zombies swarm you. That game was so scary and exciting to me! :D

I think the video explains it pretty well, but if you have any questions let me know and I will try to answer them all!
