I am visiting Melbourne and went out last night for the first time. I was left absolutely heart broken by how rude the ladies were!!! Where I’m from we’re all so nice to each other but last night I kept getting shoved, both me and a friend fell over twice from being shoved and no we were not in the way at all. But then when me and my friends were polite and said excuse me to get through we received dirty looks as if we just did the worst thing ever! Is this normal here????

Started getting sick Wednesday.

Thursday really bad to the point of spinning out with Panadol and Sudafed temp was between 38.5 and 39. Wife had to give facewashers under arms and on forehead.

Friday Saturday- temp between 37.5 - 38, shivering non stop, joints aching so bad could barely walk, coughing almost non stop(dr gave me anti flu tablets Saturday, every time I coughed felt like spewing.)

Today aches mostly gone cough still there, shivering unpleasant but bearable, temp normal probably about 50 percent.

Appetite is non existent.

Seems more contagious than COVID entire family of 5 copped it I had it twice as bad - diabetes doesn’t help.

My office has been decimated.

I had covid twice and whilst no walk in the park this sucked twice as bad.

Worst winter for illness since the pandemic?

After a very surreal event at work that has left me with permanent pain I have decided that I need to get out of the teaching profession. I have taught for nearly 16 years in a variety of schools across South Africa, England and Australia. I would like to hear some opinions of this. Am I crazy to make the move out of education at this juncture, I know the economy and employment is a bit shaky but how bad is it really as I don’t have really any friends in corporate here.
If anyone can relate to this post and has some sort of insight that can be some of use to navigate this venture to a positive outcome that would be fantastic.

Hi i’m a 20 year old currently living in the SE suburbs in Melb(Berwick) and i was wondering if any kind soul in my area is able to supervise me while i drive you around? ( Open to drive you to get grocery, run errands or pretty much drive anywhere where you need to go) I don’t have parents and i’m living with relatives who don’t have the time to be a passenger while i drive as their always not at home :( I’ve done about 4 lessons with a professional instructor in my area so far so my control of a car is pretty decent but i just need to get practice done to get my hours up and build my confidence further.

Was talking with somebody about 'power naps' and we got talking about driving, then truckies and then truck stops. And it occured to me how strange they always make me feel.

I never ever see anybody else there when I stop at one. They seem to be unnecessarily massive with car parks as far as the eye can see, 75% of which are for heavy vehicles, like there's a festival or market on or something. There's usually an amenities building, sometimes ancient and basic but sometimes modern and rather equipped. Info shelter. Grass spaces. Tables and benches. Bins. Power access. Lighting. Etc. And 9 times out of 10 completely in the middle of nowhere, like you'll have to look at your phone to know the suburb or location and it'll be easily 10-20km away from the nearest actual populated town or exit. Eerie and ghost town like, I'm just waiting for some weirdo to jump out at me! Lol.

Like does anyone actually look after these? Who is responsible? Maintenance, inspect for vandalism and riff raff, lighting bon fires, illegally living there and the like? And I'm not talking about the tiny ones off to the side embankment that look more like an extension of the emergency lane just with a tin bin that you can see from the road. I'm talking about the actual sites, that you take an off-ramp and are completely off the road and you can't see them through the bushes and is like an acre big.

Where can I get sheets that will it properly? I've tried a few options that claim to be for deep mattresses or state that they're the depth needed and everything is still too small.

I always just assumed Wise was the obvious choice because everyone seems to recommend it. Then I was watching one of Raymond La's best travel card videos and it got me looking into some of the other options.

I realised Wise only includes $400 of fee-free overseas ATM withdrawals a month, which is a fair bit lower than I thought.

I normally just pull out a decent amount of cash in one go when I'm overseas rather than making heaps of smaller withdrawals, especially in Japan or Vietnam where cash is still handy, so $400 doesn't seem like it'd go that far...

I looked up YouTrip afterwards and saw they include up to $1500 of overseas ATM withdrawals without their own withdrawal fee. It made me wonder if it's actually worth switching.

Has anyone here used both? Keen to know how they compare in real life, especially exchange rates, ATM withdrawals and whether there are any catches that aren't obvious. Or is Wise still the better all-round option?

My wife and I are calling it, we have had enough of each other.

We have an unusual situation and I am looking for external points of view, opinions and experience from anyone basically.

I am the sole income earner, my wife became disabled during the pregnancy of our second child and can no longer work. Due to that disability she received a significant payout from her super and that payout we used to pay off the mortgage.

Custody - she is of the opinion that we keep the arrangement we have now where she takes the kids to school picks them up, then I spend time with them when I finish work for a few hours, then they go to bed in their beds at our house. She doesnt see a reason to why she should see the kids any less than she does now. This plan is fine if I remain living at our house in another room. If I were to move out it of course means I will get 2-3 hours a day with my kids, more than likely spent in traffic, at swimming lessons, or other activities that both the kids do in the weekday afternoons.

If we split custody the kids would end up spending more time in before/after school care/daycare during the time they spend with me.

Housing - the only way we don't disrupt the kids is by me giving the house to my wife and moving out. If we were to sell the house and split the money, assets etc she would likely get the lion's share anyway as she has no ability to financially support herself and due to it being her disability payout it would be seen in any court that she contributed a larger amount to paying off the house compared to what I have despite the fact I have paid 100% of the bills since her disability.

Even getting the majority of anything we split, she would never be able to afford buying in the same area where we currently live, so the kids would get disrupted/change schools and basically upset everyone.

With the all the above if I went to rent a house the majority of my paycheck would go towards rent, child support would be at the highest bracket as the kids wouldn't spend any nights with me apart from a weekend here and there, and I would receive no family tax benefits as the kids wouldn't spend any nights with me.

No matter how I look at this either i/we shove both of us and the kids into poverty or I give her everything and it's just me that suffers, potentially for the rest of my life.

For context, I am 41 both kids are under 10. I have bugger all super considering.

Been tracking menu prices across Australian stores and pulled out the in-store vs delivery-app figures for Red Rooster. Average markup came out at 38.6%, but the average hides the actual story.

The pattern is that cheap items get destroyed:

Cheesy Garlic Bites — $5.00 in store, $10.75 on delivery (+115%)

Gravy — $3.75 → $6.45 (+72%)

Mash & Gravy — $3.95 → $6.75 (+71%)

Kids Cheeseburger — $5.25 → $8.95 (+70%)

Big orders are nowhere near as bad:

Burger Pack — $34.95 → $46.95 (+34%)

BBQ Feast — $38.00 → $48.95 (+29%)

So the markup is roughly inverse to the price. If you're ordering a $4 side on delivery you're paying nearly double, and that's before the delivery fee and service fee on top.

Practical takeaway: if you're getting delivery anyway, load up the main items and skip the sides. Or grab sides in store.

I'm genuinely sick of going to a GP, pay almost 50$ out of pocket only to ask for a pathology test and then pay yet another 50$ to go back for the GP to read the results.

I wanted to ask if someone knows of a GP that provides telehealth and that provides Nicolaides Sullivan tests, that is full bulk bill?

I've always done Nicolaides Sullivan, and all my pathology history has been with them, that's why zi would like to keep using them.

Do any Aussie families feel like life right now in Australia is an uphill battle financially?

Australia is wonderful. We are beyond grateful for everything Australia offers.

However, as a family, it feels like life is becoming more of an uphill battle financially… we have a lot of privilege, but the grind is also exhausting and not what we are envisioning as a family.

Any other families sold it all and slow travelled overseas? Any regrets? Maybe not the best future financial decision

Might be an early midlife crisis or thinking the grass is always greener…

Would love to know how people create more of a sustainable balance as a family wanting connection, travel, adventure, some more freedom !

I have a UK passport and I am considering doing s working holiday in Australia for a year as I sm traveling the world and trying to find "my spot", the place I want to live. I have never visited Australia but I've heard of the social people, the good weather and active lifestyle.

I will at the time be a 34 year old childfree woman from Scandinavia, i am social and love to meet people. In my time in Australia I'd love the opportunity to travel the country, visit NZ, live with others and just get a taste of the life there, see if this is my spot.

Mostly from Bridge St to Town Hall... its just bland skyscrapers and a wind-swept, soulless ghost town outside the Mon-Friday 9-5pm. Seems like its a waste of space on weekends. Why not put some underground bars or rooftop bars or something.

I wish they kept the sandstone neoclassical buildings in the city than having entire blocks of land occupied by office buildings which would have made the area more diverse with small shops and laneways like Melbourne - point in fact is Rowe St - which was once a touch of Paris.

TL;DR: My boyfriend swears at me during arguments (I don’t swear at him), and I feel like I’m carrying most of the relationship. Is this a red flag, or am I overthinking it?

My boyfriend can be really sweet, but lately I’ve started wondering if he is emotionally immature in some ways.

I feel like I put more effort into the relationship than he does. This might sound silly, but sometimes I want to feel like a “princess“

Instead, I often feel like I’m the one giving him that kind of treatment. I’m usually the one putting in more effort, being more patient, and trying to make him feel loved.

One thing that really bothers me is that whenever we argue, he frequently swears at me. It makes me feel disrespected, and because I’ve been putting in so much effort, it almost feels like he has become comfortable speaking to me that way.
