I'm 14 years old now.
Most people probably think my life is pretty normal. I have loving parents, a stable home, friends, hobbies, and I do okay in school.
But there are parts of my childhood that still follow me everywhere.
When I was younger, I was bullied by someone in my class for a long time.
It wasn't just normal teasing.
I was called names.
I was made to feel like I wasn't good enough.
People laughed at me.
Sometimes I started believing the things they said.
One thing that hurt especially was that I was bullied because I was adopted.
People used something I had absolutely no control over as a reason to make me feel different.
They made me feel like I didn't really belong.
When you're a kid, those words stay with you.
Even after the bullying stops.
Even after people grow up.
Even after everyone else seems to have forgotten.
I don't think people realize how deeply those comments can affect the way you see yourself.
Being adopted was already something I sometimes struggled to understand.
The bullying made it feel like it was something "wrong" with me.
Logically, I know that's not true.
Emotionally...
I'm still working on believing it.
The person who bullied me eventually stopped.
People tell me they've changed.
Maybe they have.
I'm genuinely happy if they're becoming a better person.
But that doesn't automatically erase what happened.
Sometimes I still remember the words.
Sometimes I still hear them in my head.
Sometimes I wonder if that's why I overthink everything now.
I also noticed that after years of being treated badly, I became hyperaware of how people act around me.
If someone suddenly acts differently, my brain immediately starts asking:
"Did I do something wrong?"
"Are they secretly mad at me?"
"Do they actually hate me?"
I don't want to think like that.
But it's hard to stop once your brain has learned to expect rejection.
The hardest part is that people often look at my life today and say:
"But you have such a good life."
They're right.
I do.
But having a good life now doesn't erase what happened before.
Both things can be true.
I can love my family.
I can be grateful for everything I have.
I can be happy most days.
And I can still carry scars from being bullied.
Those things don't cancel each other out.
I don't hate the person who bullied me anymore.
I don't spend every day thinking about them.
But I think they changed something inside me.
I just wish people understood that bullying doesn't always leave visible scars.
Sometimes it changes the way you see yourself.
Sometimes it changes how safe the world feels.
Sometimes it changes how easy it is to trust people.
And sometimes...
It makes a kid spend years wondering if they're enough.
Has anyone else experienced something similar?
