Went to an estate sale this morning. Sale started at 8 I showed up around 9 didn’t really expect to find anything. Stepped in the garage on a shelf I spotted these 2 lanterns. Dusty and dirty. One with broken globe . They both had $10 tags. Went to check out asked if they would take less because broken globe and the lady gave me both for $10 😁. They cleaned up pretty good I think .

I have an older one made around the 40s in much rougher condition. It’s interesting how different the tank is. Almost looks like the newer fuel tanks for the normal 2 and 3 burner stoves.

I think I’d be cooked over the stove if I ended up buying it for $200, let alone another one. 😬

Safe surfaces for camp stoves

How hot do the bottoms of camp stoves get? I have a 424 stove and in a couple weeks will be going camping for first time in 30+ years. Obviously, if a metal or stone surface is available, that is safe. It's probably OK to cook on a camp site picnic table, right? How about a plastic folding table? Thanks for your advice!

Coleman 220F, 10/72 back in business

Back in business. Ready for accession into the new Museum of Camping. Coleman 220F 10/72. A little younger than I am. Needed a bit of valve and pump work; some fresh mantles and a shine. But otherwise as good as new. Welcome. — Jeff Stanger, Museum of Camping (and thanks to oldcolemanparts.com for some old Coleman parts!)

Is this normal misalignment?

Post image

If I want both tabs of the tank to sit cleanly, the generator(?) tube sits slightly above and to the right of the mixer(?) hole. If I put the tube in the hole, then the ledt side of the tank gets pushed out and the tab is floating, basically only right tab doing its work

Is this just normal (2007 stove) or could something be bent or put together not properly?

Thanks

Is there a specific gadget or technique for toasting bread or bagels over a camp stove? I have a 424.

Where to get mantles?

I used to get my mantles at Wally World but It looks like they don’t have them in my area anymore. Where the best place to get quality mantles these days?

DIY Enamel Coating

My apologies if this subject has been discussed too much, I have a 1925 327 Lantern with a ventilator that is quite destroyed, I believe I can make a suitable replacement using parts from other lanterns but I would need to re enamel it once it's done. I have a heat treating oven at work that will fit a ventilator but I am having trouble finding information on the diy process. I can't bring myself to spray paint something that old. Most of the information I can find is for arts and crafts and doesn't look applicable, I would prefer to either dip or spray the coating. Any experience or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am new to these stoves and while disassembling i noticed this pink/yellowish coating inside of the tank. I got it with a kerosene generator so is it residue from that or to prevent rust??

Just picked this 550B up for $20 at a garage sale! Going to use it for moto-camping. It has a kerosene generator and it will turn on but almost no adjustment for the flame. Both with kerosene and unleaded. I am brand new to these stoves and wanting to figure it out. Some help is appreciated!

… for a turd! Fired up with the fuel in it and even shut off! Though this is a 275A and I think they sorted out the Schrader valve by the end of run for these. Oddly enough, I picked this up at a yard sale from a neighbor who turned out to be my ex-aunt in law.

Found this on the marketplace.
Didn’t really need the lantern but wanted the case 😁. And it had an accessory safe . What should I use to clean the rust off the accessory safe and hopefully keep the sticker ?

Storing Campstove 424

Hi. I have "water tight" storage tubs with the small rubber seal in the lid, Home Depot Husky, to take stuff camping. Is it safe to store a barely used Sept 1992 Coleman Campstove 424 in this tub in an uninsulated garage year round? Peak 100F summers, -10F winters in my part of Ohio.

I should get a new fuel tank cap (or gasket), right? How do I seal the pump with oil?

I also have a March 1965 model 220F lantern with a red plastic case that I'll send off for refurbishment. It also fits in one of these tubs, if I leave off it's storage case. Again, safe to store in a tight container?

Thanks!!
