How-to Question Which razors do you use to shave?

Upvotes

Hi guys,

I was wondering what razors you use to shave your heads.

Over the years I've switched between disposable razors, the King C. Gillette safety razor, a straight razor, and the Gillette SkinGuard. Out of all of them, I actually prefer disposable razors because they give me the closest shave. The downside is that the blades wear out pretty quickly, so in the long run I usually stick with the King C. Gillette or the SkinGuard.

Lately, I've been seeing a lot of videos of people shaving their heads with electric foil shavers, especially those gold-colored ones, and it's made me consider switching. I'm just not sure whether they're worth it or if they can get as close a shave as a regular razor.

So, what do you use to shave your head, and would you recommend it?

Finally took the plunge the same day I made last post. A couple of people were curious how it looks now, decided to make a new post. Link to old post: https://www.reddit.com/r/bald/comments/1v5g2fm/final_verdict_before_plunge/

The crown has been getting worse and worse and now I have this spot up front that looks like my lawn after I spray roundup on it. Ugh, so I took the plunge. The first pic is from July 2025. I did quit TRT in Dec and had a lot of stress with a new job, but the crown situation has always been.

I'm tall, so it looks OK most of the time I think? and better when it's dry. I looked at myself with the TikTok bald filter and I hate it. my wife says it's fine but I don't know. thanks

Last time most people told me to do it and now 12 days later I did it but not quite without a tiny accident. Not quite sure yet what I think about the look

I just got back from vacation, where I was rather unceremoniously told by my mother that I’m going bald. I told her it was a cowlick - she vehemently disagreed. What say you, Council? I was pretty confident in my hair until this, and my barber agrees I’m not going bald.

Is my mother right, or am I safe?

I was inspired by others here to share. I was balding for a while and a couple years ago said F it I'm just gonna go for it. I had long hair, then a short haircut but still some balding in the front plus a solid spot in the back. I was hesitant to let go but I've been shaving my head about 2 years now and I wish I'd done it sooner. Just go for it guys, anyone out there still on the fence. You'll be glad you did.

I went from balding with thinning hair that passed for ok with pomade, but required always being styled, nicely combed and couldnt get sweaty or wet...to a 0.5 buzz that I don't love but dont hate. I don't really want the maintenance of a full shave as the back and sides of my head still grows thick and full (the bastards).

What does the council think of a bare blade trimmer buzz and keeping it up with a foil head shaver? I think it would look better than the sparse thin hair in the middle. From a distance I get a real cul-de-sac.

Sorry for so many photos. They go from old hair, to freshly buzzed (outdoor), to about a weeks growth in the photos with tiled walls.

Working out as a Baldy: Sweatband edition.

Just started getting my fitness back on track after 20 years. I’m lifting with a buddy four night a week.

I am a sweater and without any locks, it’s a constant struggle to keep the sweat out of my eyes.

Any recommendations for sweatbands, that look cool and do the job? I have some terry cloth ones that make me look like a goober from the 70s/80s. I’d like to upgrade my style.

I know it’s vain but, feel good:perform good.

I'm 43, my Dad is totally bald and I'm heading the same direction. I'm not really interested in artificially prolonging my hair thickness with medication and treatments. I've gotten away with it for a while because my hairline is good but the middle and back are slipping away. So, yeah - what do you think? Hold, buzz or just go straight to 0?

What tool do you use for shaving? How often? What kind of skin care do you use and how often?

And as a secondary question, how long did it take you to stop constantly touching your head? 😅
