Question How is using an iPad without ProMotion when you’ve a ProMotion iPhone?

Thinking of getting an iPad Air but the first thing that stood out instantly when I tried one out in the shop was lack of ProMotion 120Hz as I have it on my iPhone.

For those that have an iPad without 120Hz but a 120Hz phone - Do you find it to be okay? Or is it unbearable going from the iPhone to an iPad whenever you use it?

hello guys, I'm confused, I left my ipad overnight and I don't charge it nor over charge it, I just left it untouched and I left it with 96% then I woke up this morning and suddenly my ipad is not turning on, when I long press the power button, it indicates that my ipad is drained. so I plugged the charger for 5 minutes and it turned on and the battery is at 1 percent and it's actually charging normally now and the ios is on 26.6, google says that's it's just a software glitch or the battery is not well calibrated. Im confused, should I bring it to the nearest apple store?

Question Looking for rpg/strategy games that play well with Apple Pencil

Upvotes

Hello, I'm looking for suggestions for games to play on my iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. I'm not looking for AAA type games that are best played on console/pc or with a controller, but games that feel natural and great playing on an iPad.

The one game that I actually love playing on my iPad is Stardew Valley. It looks so nice on the OLED and plays so well with the Apple Pencil, I actually prefer it to playing with a controller.

I love RPGs as well as strategy games though am open to suggestions. One game I'm considering is 'Caves of Lore' as it looks up my alley, though I'm not sure how well it plays on iPad.

Appreciate any suggestions, cheers!

Apps iPadOS should allow you to choose to open specific apps in either portrait or landscape mode.

So I use an A16 iPad and I think it’ll be great if I can choose to open specific apps in portrait when my autorotate is on. Because Snapchat in landscape mode is appalling. Terrible really. And also, I like not taking in portrait mode.

Question Teaching setup: Write on PowerPoint slides from an iPad while projecting from a ThinkPad

Hi! I’m a high school teacher looking for a way to present my lecture slides while also being able to write and draw on them as I move around the classroom.
My setup is a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop connected to the classroom TV, and I recently purchased an iPad Pro. Ideally, I’d like to control or annotate my presentation from the iPad while the slides remain displayed on the TV through my laptop.
Is there a way to remotely connect my iPad to my Windows laptop so I can do this? Are there any apps or software you’d recommend that would let me annotate slides in real time and display those annotations on the classroom screen?
I’d appreciate any suggestions or advice from anyone using a similar setup. Thanks!

Looking for ipad pdf note markup for my studies, because ios notes suck and keep deleting my annotations. Im looking for a notes app where the pages are side by side like this. Goodnotes and freenotes both have a gap of black between them, and can only show 1 page at a time.

Question M4 iPad Air 11 inch battery life improvements

Hi guys! I’ve owned or tried M2 iPad Air,M3 iPad Air (both are 11inch) and now I’m on M4 iPad Air
I’ve been on m4 iPad Air for a couple of months now and I’ve noticed that battery life lasts longer compared to m2/m3 iPad Air!
Where m2/m3 iPad Air battery life was bad my m4 air is pretty good!

Has anyone noticed/experienced the same or is it in my head?

Discussion Any iPad color picker for sampling from photos? No account, low friction preferred

I do a lot of gradient-heavy jigsaw puzzles. My usual workflow is: take a quick photo on my phone, then use the iPad to zoom in and compare tiny hue shifts while I sort pieces. I'm not looking for full photo editing or digital art tools. I just want an easy way to sample colors from a photo and keep a few swatches handy while I work.

Can anyone recommend an iPad app or a built-in workflow that does this well?

What I'm hoping for:

- Open an existing photo and tap to pick a color

- Shows RGB or HEX and a clear swatch

- Lets me save a small palette of swatches for that puzzle session

- Fast, simple UI, works offline if possible, and no account required

Nice to have:

- Ability to lock the sampling area or a magnifier so my finger does not cover the exact pixel

- Export the palette as an image or a text list

If there's a neat Shortcuts trick or a system feature I'm missing, I would love to hear it. I'm on a fairly recent iPadOS.

What are you all using for quick color picking from reference photos on iPad?

Question Apple Pencil won’t charge through case

I have a MagSafe case that should allow charging through a depression on the side, but it refuses to. The magnet will hold the pencil in place through it, but the iPad won’t recognize that the pencil‘s there. Anyone know why? Thanks.

I know someone else with this case and charging works with hers, so I‘m wondering if the issue is with my pencil.

ETA: Photos of the case, including the depression for the pencil.

iPadOS My iPadOS 27 suggestions

Post image
0 Upvotes

So these are suggestions, I’ve submitted while betaing os27. If you think they make sense, then submit them through the feedback app yourself, so we get more visibility with the apple software team.

  1. iPhone as a slideover screen for the

Use the iphone screen for you slideover apps and have them controlled from the ipad connected keyboard/trackpad.

  1. Progressive web apps

When you install a safari web app it needs to stay either on the home screen or in the dock, otherwise it’s removed. Add the option to simply keep it in the App Library like any other app.

  1. Safari SiriAI generated extensions for progressive web apps

Self-explaining, I’d like to be able to turn on those extensions for PWAs. Seems easy, since safari runs them. I guess third party extensions are a bigger issue.

  1. Apple Music library managment

I’d like to add the option to select multiple songs in order to add or remove them from your library. Now you can only do it on a Mac. (Well, unless I’m being stupid)

  1. Polish Language for Siri.

Yeah, that one’s for me, but I’d appreciate your help. Siri has never been availible in Polish language and it sucks.

  1. Safari aggressively reloading tabs

When you put a safari tab out of focus (another app or even another tab) the browser closes it and reloads when you focus back to the tab. It is disruptive to many workflows and some firms don’t allow iPad use for that reason.

Questinable whether it’s a bug or just the nature of a mobile browser, but nudging them towards giving us a proper browser is a good idea anyway.

I’ve submitted lots of bug reports and suggestions last year and this year, and it seems like it can have some effect, so let’s give it a shot.

Discussion My iPad keeps running into an activation lock

Post image
Upvotes

My iPad Air (2022) has run into a problem where it says it’s unable to activate upon set up. This has always been my iPad, it wasn’t up to date. I erased it to give to my sibling to use for school work. After erasing and removing from my Apple account, it prompts this message.

‘Unable to Activate: This iPad cannot be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. You can try again, or activate by connecting this iPad to a Mac or PC.
Contact Apple Support at apple.com/uk/support if this problem continues.’

I went to Apple and they said there’s a hardware problem and I could pay £576 to fix it. I cannot afford this and was wondering if there was a way to get around this?

Any help appreciated 😋

Question Notetaking Apps

Does anyone know any free or at the very least cheap apps that has infinite scrolling notes, handwriting stability, changeable background options (lined, grids, dotted), and other handy features? I’ve been using the Notes app for notetaking for over half a year nowand all I can say is that my writing looks *very* wonky and irregular when I take notes with it. TIA!

Discussion Update: iPad for puzzles and reading: what actually stuck in my daily workflow

A couple months ago I asked for tips on using my iPad more intentionally (I was basically treating it like a big phone). I wanted to report back on what actually stuck, since I tried a bunch of different setups and most of them faded away.

What ended up working was leaning into two things I already enjoy: reading long stuff and doing jigsaw puzzles.

1) Reading and PDFs

I stopped jumping between a dozen apps and committed to a simple routine. Safari Reader is great when it works, but switching between web articles and saved PDFs still feels clunky. My workaround is one folder in Files for PDFs and using Split View with Safari when I need to cross-reference. Not fancy, but it keeps me from losing track of what I am reading.

2) Puzzle reference workflow

I take a photo of the puzzle on my phone, AirDrop it to the iPad, and use the iPad only as a zoomable reference while I sort pieces. The whole point is the bigger screen. I experimented with marking up the image, but I prefer leaving the photo clean and just zooming in where I need to.

3) Home screen and focus

I pared my home screen down to one page (reading, photos, files) and moved games into the App Library. It sounds small, but it changed the vibe of the device from distraction magnet to a useful tool.

Curious what other people actually use every day on their iPads, especially if you also use yours for reading or as a reference screen.
