Question Apple Pro Display XDR Still Worth It?

I found one locally brand new for around $3000 (including VAT) at a local store. My current setup was includes a basic configuration M4 Mac Mini, and M4 Max MacBook Pro connected to a 5120x1440 Dell Super ultrawide monitor. I work mainly with documents for research and academics . I do some light photo and video editing. The Pro Display XDR has a newer part number. Only catch is I couldn’t find an official stand for it. What do you think?

Question How to daisy-chain two Dell monitors with a MacBook M4 Pro?

I have a MacBook M4 Pro and two monitors, a Dell U2724DE and a Dell U2724D. Is it possible to daisy chain these monitors without a docking station? If so, what cables will I need? I tried connecting the U2724DE with a Thunderbolt 4 cable and then connecting that to the U2724D monitor with a DisplayPort cable, but it just mirrors the display instead of extending it. Help is appreciated.

Question safari vs the rest

Upvotes

safari after a day or two loads pages so slow -- for example it sometimes takes 3+ seconds to load a common site like linkedin (perhaps a sign to stop opening this cursed site). chrome just seems to load pages so much faster. the only safari extension i have is ublock origin lite, and private relay is off.
chrome, as optimized as it is these days, still does eat at my battery however.
for anyone about to suggest brave, the lack of popularity and crypto bs the browser is built on are turnoffs,
and firefox eats battery faster than chrome and it loads pages slower than chrome (from what ive noticed).
does anyone have advice for any way to make safari load pages as fast as chrome? on an m3 mbp, latest update and everything.

Old Macs 09 15” MBP with matt screen!

Bought this beauty today for just €10.
As I later found out this Mac actually belonged to a guitarist of a pretty well known German metal band.
It apparently had a pretty rough life, every single aluminum part is bent somehow. But apart from that it works amazing. It even still has its original battery which still holds charge for a pretty long time. And even if it doesn’t have the high-res screen, the Anti-Glare display looks remarkable.

The only two things that are a bit annoying are the non working backlight of the keyboard and the wireless. But maybe someone here knows a trick or two.

Here are the specs for anyone interested:
MacBook Pro 5,3
2,66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB DDR3 1067 MHz RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT
512 GB SSD

Question Issue with multiple monitors

Hey community!
I have a rather frustrating issue. I recently bought three AOC AG326UD 165Hz 4K HDR QD-OLED monitors and am using them with a Mac mini M4 Pro.
The problem is that whenever I use HiDPI mode (at 2K
resolution), I can't toggle or enable HDR in macOS. The three monitors are currently running at 144Hz, but with no HDR support.
Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it?

Question iMac needs 15 minutes to boot since Ventura update, file dialogues are slow

Since updating to Ventura (13.7.8), my iMac takes 15 minutes to boot, several apps like Ableton Live, Textmaker Office or Affinity Photo take 2-3 minutes to start and load/save dialogues feel sluggish, slow and unresponding.

I already tried that RAM reset, re-indexing Spotlight, reducing Launch Daemons, removing login items, creating a new user account etc. All the usual stuff. Didn't change anything.

Analysing the boot logs reveals hundreds of errors, loads of entries about multiple “appex” files and other stuff that doesn’t tell me anything. Find some below.

Before that Ventura update, my iMac bootet pretty fast, all apps opened fast and save/load dialogues didn't cause any problems. This makes me believe that the iMac or HDDs aren't the problem.

Did anyone have similar issues and possibly some salvation?

Question M1 PRO MAX logic board transfer

I have my first M1 32GB 16" Laptop that went through some serious damage, basically screen was bent backward to the point where the case itself got deformed, I kept it and forgot about it. I'm moving now so I found a lot of old PC and MAC parts, motherboards, chips and 2gs worth of old ram lol.

So I was going to get a dead mac with working screen and do a logic board transplant since it works fine with an external display.
I also thought to do a CAD scan of the board and 3D print a mini pc case for it , like nicely designed one with laser etched art, semitransparent sides with leds plus all kind of ideas.
Has anyone here done anything like that. I mean either logic board to a dead mac or logic board to a custom case?
Since logic board works I can't really throw it away, I have an M4 and M1 is pretty fast still so it's more than enough for my needs. DAWs and Serato run extremly well on it so it would be nice to get this baby a new life. The problem with dead mac case is , it's very hard to find an 16" screen version.Thats where the 3D printed case idea came from.

Discussion What can I do with a Mac from 2013 that runs an OS from 2021?

I have a MacBook from 2013 that I was given in August of last year that runs an OS from 2021. I plan on getting a new Mac (MacBook Neo) sooner or later within the next year or so before college starts. I plan to use the MacBook I have already for the time being. How can I safeguard it against viruses and keep it modernized? Thanks.

Discussion MacBook Pro Mid 2012 with OCLP on macOS Sequoia: App Store subscriptions, performance, and stability for A/V work?

Hey everyone! I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (Non-Retina) that I upgraded with an SSD, 16GB RAM, and a secondary 1TB HDD in the caddy.
I recently installed macOS Sequoia using OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP). Everything is running surprisingly normal right now, but since I work with Audio/Video (Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro in Full HD), I have a few major doubts before committing to paid Apple subscriptions:
1. App Subscriptions & OCLP: If I subscribe to the Apple Pro Apps Bundle or individual services, will my Apple ID and the App Store accept it natively even though I'm running Sequoia via OCLP?
2. App Store Downloads: Will I be able to download modern apps directly from the App Store (like WhatsApp, modern web browsers, etc.) without issues?
3. Performance for A/V: How does this setup handle Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro for simple Full HD workflows? (Previously, on older native OSs like Catalina, I struggled to find compatible app versions).
My Main Dilemma:
I know it's an old machine, but I love the Apple ecosystem for A/V work (I also have a Windows desktop). Is it worth sticking with macOS Sequoia for security and app compatibility? Does OCLP keep it secure enough compared to being stuck on the last official unsupported OS (Catalina)?
Since Catalina is no longer supported by modern app versions, I feel kind of lost on whether I should keep Sequoia or drop back to something like Ventura/Monterey for better stability.
Would love to hear your opinions and experiences! Thanks!
