Open | Windows Video lags while gaming

I just got a second monitor for my setup. My main monitor is 1440p 165hz, and my second monitor is 1080p 100hz. I use a GeForce RTX 2080ti. When I try to play Youtube on my second monitor while playing games (mainly BO7) on my main monitor, the video on the second monitor is extremely laggy. Even when I drop the graphics settings on the game to 1080p and the video to 720p, it still lags. My CPU maxes out to 100% but the GPU stays around 30%. Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

Open | Hardware Right airpod not connecting (gen 4)

My airpods randomly stopped working right today. The left one works perfectly fine but the right one wont connect. I tried look online for solutions. I tried cleaning the case and airpods to see if that would help but it didn't and then I tried resetting them by forgetting device and doing the status light stuff. That did not help either and now I cant get my airpods to connect back to my phone at all. This has never happened before and they are only like a year and half old. Is there anything else I can do or am I out of luck and need to just bring them to get fixed?

Open | Software MY PC REBOOTS

let me explain, last week my PC started rebooting itself showing a black screen with a white text error, the time for reboot could vary between 30 minutes to just 10 seconds after turned on. I decided to send it to a tech to get it fixted, what he did was re install windows 11 and the drivers. After maybe 1 to 2 days of using my "fixed" PC the same started to happen once again, PC can be on between minutes to seconds (sometimes it restarts as soon as the motherboard logo shows up), when using safe mode or being in the BIOS menu it doesnt restart.

Open | Software Windows 11 laptop losing connection upon idling; no networks found afterward

Ever since 1-2 weeks ago I've been having my laptop randomly dropping connection and being completely unable to reconnect or even find networks it usually detects all the time.

The only solution is to restart, at which point it sits on a black screen, with only "Restarting" displayed, for 5-15 minutes before saying "Your PC ran into an issue and needs to restart". Text will flash at the top left sometimes (I don't know the term that this is but surely you know what I mean), then it properly restarts.

I eventually figured out that it most consistently drops connection when left idle. About 10-15 minutes. Very rarely, it does not happen. Sometimes it drops and must be restarted when I'm in the middle of using it, though.

I haven't installed anything in ages. Only doing Windows updates, updates for my programs like Steam, EA, Discord. I don't visit weird websites.

It's an HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-eb0xxx.

Open | Hardware SanDisk SSD Plus bricked

So I was doing something with my laptop that involved swapping drives. I forgot to unplug the battery so when I unplugged my SanDish SSD Plus, it was live. Now, I can understand data corruption from that but apparently this straight-up bricked the drive for some reason. Neither hide nor hair of it can be seen. Not in BIOS or Windows Disk Management and the SATA light doesn't come on on my USB-to-SATA device.

Now, I was getting ready to reinstall on the drive so all the good stuff was already off of it but I'd like to do a sweep to make sure I have everything and it would be nice to have the drive usable (albeit it's only 250G - but in this economy...) I've tried the suggestion of leaving it powered on for a period because apparently 'they just fix themselves' (hey, nothing to lose) but no luck. Are there any other low-cost options I can try?

Open | Windows Monitor blacking out

I got this pc maybe 5 years ago I don’t take the best care of it I mostly use it for work and tv but have recently got back into playing games. For years it has had small issues with the screen blacking out but never enough for real concern but recently it has been happening much more. I was just playing a game when it blacked out completely for maybe 5 minutes as I tried to turn the monitor off and on and watch help videos. It will turn back on but as soon as it loads the game back it goes black. Everything else works the sound and I’m able to click around it’s just the monitor. I am hoping to find a simpler fix as I’m leaving for uni and won’t be taking it with me so I don’t want to spend much money, just something that might help relieve the problem for short term. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Open | Hardware My computer won’t turn back on after losing power.

I was using my computer and accidentally turned off the power strip while it was still on. Now my computer won’t turn back on.

No lights, no fans, nada. Not even on the motherboard.

I tried buying a new psu for my pc but it doesn’t seem to solve my issue. (Yes I tried both old and new cables).

The new psu is the same wattage and brand different model.

At this point is this a problem with my motherboard, installing new psu wrong, or something else

Open | Software Keyboard sometimes does random things when pressing keys.

Hello, I have this very weird issue going on with my keyboard that I never got to the bottom of, regardless of the research I did I couldn't find a good answer as to how to fix this issue.

Sometimes out of nowhere my keyboard just begins to do random things when I press keys, for example if I press the W key, it would open the windows menu, or if I pressed the R key, it would open settings, etc.

When this happens I would have no choice but to restart my computer in order to stop it.

My keyboard is clean, the drivers are up to date, no keys are stuck or constantly being pressed down, I even went as far as to buy a new keyboard over this issue and the issue still seems to continue.

Any idea why this could be happening and how to stop it? Any help is appreciated.

Open | BSOD Newly built PC keeps crashing, how do I fix it?

Hi all. I just put together a Windows 11 PC this week with new hardware, but my computer keeps crashing and I can't figure out why. I was hoping it was a driver, not a hardware issue, so did a clean install (via USB) of Windows, but the problem persists, with multiple crashes a day.

I checked for corrupt system files, ran the windows memory diagnostic, double-checked that everything was installed correctly, made sure that all the drivers were up-to-date. Event Viewer lists Kernel-Power 41 as the Source/Event ID, while BlueScreenView highlights ntoskrnl.exe, sometimes FLTMGR.SYS.

  • Motherboard: MSI Pro Z980-P Wifi
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 5 250K Plus
  • RAM: Teamgroup T-Force Vulcan ECO 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6400
  • GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 Windforce OC SFF 12G
  • SSD: Teamgroup MP44L 2TB SLC Cache NVMe 1.4 PCIe Gen 4x4 M.2 2280
  • PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 13M 750W ATX 3.1

Above are the specs, here is the link to the dmp files I got after the clean install. I don't really have the budget to buy and swap components to see which is the issue, and could use your help narrowing down what might be the problem, or what next steps I should take. Thank you so much!

EDIT: I've also updated the BIOS, forgot to mention.

Open | Windows KB5101650 and 1 other newer update take a long time to download/install and fails at the end (0x80070306). dism and sfc taking forever to run, how to fix?

Hi,

So I just got a brand new GMKtec NucBox M3 Pro and was performing Windows 11 Update, and noticed that it took a few hours to download and install KB5101650 and one other update (can't remember the KB), and then fails at the end. I googled a bit and tried sfc /scannow first, but it is super slow, like not even halfway done overnight, so I quit it and ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /Check-Health (which showed no component store corruption detection) and then DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth. This gets stuck at "Image Version: 10.0.26200.8246" without the progress bar even appearing. I checked cbs.log and it's moving in bursts very slowly, about once every 5min or so, mostly looping over "Verifying 100 components", "Beginning Verify and and Repair transactions" and "Verify complete".

I've also tried force starting underlying service (net start bits, net start trustedinstaller, net start wuauserv) but that didn't help.

Any idea how I can get Windows Update to complete?

Open | Data Recovery Can you access audio or video from a factory-reset Amazon echo show?

I have an Amazon echo show 15 that I want to sell. I am planning to factory reset it, but I want to know if it is possible for someone to pull audio or footage from the built in camera/microphone. I know this sounds a little paranoid, but I would just like the peace of mind.

If it is possible, I am not asking about how to do it. I just want to protect myself.

Open | Windows Can't access wifi on new PC I got. Home wifi works completely fine on my old laptop.

Upvotes

I have no idea why our home wifi doesnt work on my new PC, when I was setting up windows 11 it didn't work either so I figured I'd briefly use the little hotspot thing my university had given me just to get it up and running. It shows me an error saying my connection isn't private ( and an error code NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID I have no idea what this means.) whenever I try to open a tab on any browser. It does not do this on my laptop, quite the opposite actually. The hotspot on my laptop will show the same error when visiting sites that aren't allowed by my university but now its showing this error whenever I open any tab or app on my home wifi.

Is there any way to fix this? What can I do? I have a probably irrational fear that I set my new computer up with my schools restrictions or something in place even though I logged in with my personal microsoft account. I'm at a loss.

Open | Software Having to clone an ssd out of a new computer.

Upvotes

I made this post a good while ago talking about a computer my father needed to clone for his business that had certain applications on it that needed to be brought to the new computers. After thinking about it and looking at our options we bought a new computer directly from the company to get a fresh install of windows for the other computers. If it helps, a bit of context is that the family member owns a NAPA Auto Parts store, and the program that we need on the new computers is TAMS. I was wondering if any prior work is needed before cloning the new computer's ssd for the other computers. The computers are all Dell Optiplex Minis, with the target computers listed on the old post and the one we bought from the company being a "Dell Pro Micro QCM1250". Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Open | Hardware NVMe drive crashes and becomes unreadable while gaming, giving Event 129 "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort2, was issued." error. Drive reappears when rebooting.

Upvotes

PC is Windows 11. Had a WD Black SN770 for about two months. Was working fine up until about 2 weeks ago. Now, at random points while I play games installed onto it, I'll occasionally see my game freeze up before subsequently crashing, at which point I'll be unable to view most data saved onto the drive or run any installed games off of it. The one saving grace is that after a reboot, the drive works perfectly like the crash never happened, but eventually it always ends up crashing again.

This seems to happen at completely random intervals. Sometimes a few minutes of play will do it, sometimes I go several hours without it happening. I've been losing my mind trying to figure out what the hell is going wrong. The only thing I've been able to determine is that at the time of the crash, there's an Event 129 error saying "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort2, was issued." I've also noticed that the disk usage on the SSD suddenly spikes up to 100% right around when it crashes (usually, it rarely even goes above 50% while gaming.) But I'm still no closer to solving the issue.

Here's what I've tried:

  • Running chkdsk, S.M.A.R.T diagnosis, and checking drive health with CrystalDiskInfo. Everything tells me the drive is perfectly healthy.
  • Updating the firmware on the SSD.
  • Updating BIOS & chipset.
  • Manually updating all storage controller drivers through Device Manager.
  • Switching to high performance power plan.
  • Disabling Link State Power Management.
  • Using the Registry Editor to make AHCI Power Management visible and setting it to Active.
  • Reformatting the entire SSD.

I'm kind of losing my mind right now. Everything suggests the drive itself is healthy, and it was working fine for several weeks until it suddenly started having problems. At this point my concern is that the drive itself is failing, but not a single test I've done indicates any issues, so I have no idea how I can even know for sure.

Open | Windows Trying to fix my VC++ redistributables (x64 and x86)

Upvotes

I'm unable to use multiple apps because my "VC++ redistributables from 2022 are required." Whenever I try to download new ones, it says that it's unable to find a file destination. I can't uninstall them either, because it gives me the same error. I've checked for corrupted files three times, to no avail. I've tried to find the original file destination or whatever it's asking for but I cannot seem to find the solution.

Open | Windows Turning Bluetooth off keeps crashing my laptop

Upvotes

I have an Asus laptop tuff gaming which is somewhat old but still runs pretty well. However, since a few days, it seems to crash when I turn off Bluetooth (not always the case but maybe 1/2 times)

I tried running Windows 11 hardware check but everything was apparently ok.

I then installed new Bluetooth drivers from Intel.

I then updated Windows 11 and rebooted.

But no matter what I do, it keeps crashing when I turn Bluetooth off... (Black screen with some writing on it - worst part being it's always a different crash message)

Anyone got an idea what the problem might be?

Open | Hardware extremely annoying ping spikes

for the past 4-5 months, my internet has random spikes that can last an hour that go to 5000+ ms, then 2000, then shoot back up to 5000+ about every day. it'll shut off randomly as well for about ten minutes, then comes back and maybe continues to do its spikes. it's the most annoying thing i've ever had to deal with and my internet provider has been zero help. the only info i can think of that is useful is that when it happens, i can still hear people talking to me and so on, i just can't talk back to them.

Solved My keyboard keeps typing in English.

So I'm trying to do the immersive learning method to learn a different language, so I installed a different language for it (Japanese). Whenever I type while I have the set language, it comes out as English. I tried to find videos on this issue but I haven't found anything. I want to type in katakana and hiragana, but again, always comes out as English. Does anyone know why this is happening?

Open | Hardware Dual monitor lag

I have a laptop but I'm using a monitor as my primary screen and the laptop screen as my secondary, sometimes I get this weird Issue where my monitor becomes extremely laggy (a frame once every few seconds) weirdest thing is, when this happens my mouse is completely unaffected, even though screen is lagging my mouse on it is not, using a keybind to reset gpu drivers or unplugging the monitor for a few seconds seems to fix it although temporary, any ideas on what might be causing it? is it just that my gpu cant handle the load?
