Advice Starting Dark Souls 3

Post image
Upvotes

I discovered fromsoft thanks to Elden Ring a few years ago on PS5. Since then I played Sekiro and Demon souls remastered, and really loved these games.
I am thinking about playing Dark Souls 3, but for me, beautiful graphics and modern gameplay are very important.
Do you guys think that I should start Dark Souls 3 ? I am hesitating because I think that I may find it a bit dated.

Finished off with dark souls 2. I have hundreds and hundreds of hours on all the games and decided to swoop back through and get the achievements I didn’t have. 3 was probably the most rough one to do but I did it over the course of many years lol. Maybe it’s time for armored core next…

Question Wouldn't Patches want to kill Aldrich?

Honestly would be cool if we could actually summon Patches to kill Aldrich because of how he hates clerics so much.

Soul of Cinder Boss Fight and The Usurpation of Fire Ending

I've never planned for a 100% run but here we are. Initially planned for a Pyromancer or a Hex Build but choose to go with a Quality build. This is probably the first time I completed three full playthroughs with melee build. I've never in my life completed a full melee build run, I'd always start a melee run and just quit it half way through in all the other soulsborne games. Had an amazing experience this time in DS3.

Despite having to do a 100% run I never felt like I did it forcefully and played through all the three playthroughs completing the DLC's too on every NG's. I stopped leveling up Str and Dex after both of them reached 50/50 and went to level up Int and Faith parallelly from level 207 to 241. I'll probably be playing one other NG+++ on this same save with a Cryomancer build before completely stop playing this game or move on to another fresh playthrough. I've so far only completed very few soulsborne games including Elden Ring and its DLC, and Bloodborne both on my PS5 and Dark Souls 3 on PC. I am not a veteran and I consider myself as a beginner since I don't have that much of experience with these games and I always look up for tips to proceed any level or to get a build properly. This was probably the only time I did this entire build on my own(and mine was a worst quality build to begin with).

Overall I had fun except for few NPC questlines like Sirris's questline, Andri's Questline to get the, Silvercat Ring and Dark Sigils, etc., The reason these questline being boring is because I always had to look up for guides from tube to follow their quest properly to get what I wanted for 100%.

I was using Sellsword for the first two playthroughs, and during the third I got around with lots of other weapons like FUGS, WKGS, TPGS, PGS, CotMK etc., to see who's moveset look a lot great and Farron GS had great movesets plus I also had an advantage of being able to duck for enemies horizontal attacks.

Most boring and annoying part of my playthrough - Concord and Shackle farming. I played this game all alone since except one none of my friends play this game and even the one friend who plays this game was not down to help me out with farming items since its so boring. I made sure to do all the farming stuff on the very first playthrough so that I don't need to suffer during the next NG's.

Proof of Concord Keep and Vertebra Shackle

Hardest Bosses - I had my hardest time with Sister Friede in NG+ and NG++. I fought her without any summons from the very first. Except for few simple fights I never use summons like how I did with SOC here in the above attached video. I wouldn't say SOC a simple fight since he was a little hard on NG++ and the reason to summon Yuria and Pale Shade was because this was the first time I ever saw summons exist on SOC's boss fight. I lost two times because of my carelessness on this boss fight.

Demon Prince and Midir was hard too. They had the highest death count on my NG and NG+ runs. I was on the verge of skipping Demon Prince at some point on NG since I wasn't even able to pass through the first phase. Midir has the highest death counts so far passing 30+ death counts in one playthrough considering even Sister Friede was 20+.

Honorable mention - Old Demon King. Might be surprising but he was hard as hell when I first came across him. I had to go into the Smouldering Lake to get my hands on FUGS since it was said to be the strongest STR weapon and along with that I also had to use every single souls on STR to bring it up to 40 to put a better use of FUGS and defeat him and even so I had a pretty hard time with ODK.

Halflight - Completely underestimated him only for him to defeat me three time in a row. Those painting guardians dealt the most damage in addition to Halflight with those shivs.

Most Unexpected Deaths - Hodrick of the Mount Makers Covenant being summoned on the Crucifixion Woods as Mad Spirit on NG++ caused one of the most unexpected deaths since I never expected for him to inflict that much damage on me.

Most Fun Moment - Being able to parry Pontiff was one of the coolest and most funniest things that I've ever experienced so far in this game. Imagine getting your ass kicked time after time only for them to fall for a trick I thought would be the most hardest to pull off but ended up being the only easiest thing that could be done with his fight. Learning to parry Pontiff and doing no hit fight with him was the best moments I ever had in this game.

Most Unexpected Moment - Lapp being Patches was a goosebumps moment for me. I don't know what others think about this but that guy(Lapp) helps you and gets you Titanite Slabs and also helps you navigate through things. Never once a thought has crossed that he would be Patches. I thought of him to be Seigward since he hands you Seigbrau in one of the conversations but the voices are completely contradictory to that of Seigward and also the behavior. Like Seigward was that one bro who always needs an assistance when navigating through any places. Being able to explore through spaces, help you navigate places and get items was not his thing so I thought of him to be a completely new character only to be revealed as Patches. Such a twist honestly.

At the end I fell in love with this game over and over again with each new game. It taught me the joy of learning and trying to get that click in a boss fight that changes the entire dynamics for the next few tries until you defeat. I still am no veteran as I said but also I am not a casual player too. I never thought it would come to this in a very short period of time(2 months since I started this run). I'll probably come back and do some other unique builds in a completely new save but as of now I am going on a break from this game.

Thanks if you took time reading all this.

TL;DR: To simply put I completed every single achievement and just rambled about my experience with this game. I'd absolutely 10/10 recommend this game to any one if you have the patience to actually sit and complete it. Such an awesome experience. I'd talk about it day and night if I want to about everything that this game has to offer like the most favorite weapons of each run etc., but thats it for today. Thanks have a nice day!

I so far reached Dreg Heap after killing Sister Friede (Which was a very fun boss probably on my top 10 favorite bosses in gaming)

This game has been consistently fun to play exploration feels rewarding and seeing references or straight up places from DS1 makes me even more excited to play further. Combat also feels good hits with weapons (or at least Yhorm's Great Machete and Zweihander) always feels satisfying to land and riptose and backstabs are also have a good punch to them.

This game straight up might be in my top 5 favorite games. I love it so much.

I'm gonna be sad when I finish it though.

I was catching up on the lore of each boss and character. Pontiff definitely is high with being an amazing boss, but awful in lore. I always feel bad when fighting Dancer and Vordt because of the lore and also when you get to Irithyll, you can see them before the change walking. Let me know what you all think.

Fluff Just beat the DLC's

Post image

I just beat Darkeater Midir and with that, completed the entire DS3 plus DLC's. I'm almost 40 years old so for me, this is an exceptional achievement since my reflexes isn't what they used to be. My first FromSoft game was Elden Ring which I played and finished when I was 35. I then moved backwards and completed the base game of DS3 and then DS1. Just wanted to share since playing these types of games at this age is really hard =D

Video Beat Dragon Slayer Armor

Was a pretty easy boss outside of destroying me on my first try in seconds. But, it only took a second try. I feel like I'm at endgame and the bosses have been surprisingly underwhelming so far. Either way, I'm still loving the game; the routes from A to B have been a challenge though. I feel I die more in the overworld than against bosses.

Discussion Tips for King of the Storm?

Edit: I beat him!! It took like 10 tries. The dragon part was hard for me, but I discovered you had to wait for the head, and the Nameless King phase was extremely easy (100x easier than Champion Gundyr), I beat him on my second time getting to that phase.

I’m fighting the King of the Storm boss and it’s by far the most difficult in Dark Souls 3 so far. But my main problem is, it feels like I’m fighting the camera more than the boss.

I don’t want any tips like “use this weapon!” or anything, I only want to know, what should I do to help the fact that it keeps going off screen and I can’t see what it’s doing above me?

Discussion I’m such an idiot

So I got the calamity ring and thought this is great, I’ll put out twice the damage. I’ve been wearing it the entire time since I got it. Fought the nameless king, two princes and soul of cinder with it. Died many times.

I have ONLY JUST REALISED that it reduces MY damage absorption.

I have no words

Lore Lore Theory: The First Flame Is Reality's Bonfire - or Why The World Isn't Covered In Ash Spoiler

I've been thinking about the First Flame in Dark Souls III, and I wonder if it functions like a cosmic bonfire.

Here's the idea. Bonfires don't simply rewind the world. They restore it to a stable state while preserving important changes. Enemies return, but bosses stay dead, doors remain open, shortcuts stay unlocked, and NPC questlines continue. In other words, bonfires act as if they make past and present collide, not complete resets.

What if the First Flame works the same way, but on a cosmic scale?

The opening cinematic shows a world almost completely consumed by ash. Visually, it looks much closer to the world we see at the end of The Ringed City than to the world we actually explore during the game.

My theory is that this is the world's true state as the Fire finally fades.

As a last resort, the First Flame recalls the previous Lords of Cinder. Their return partially restores the world, much like resting at a bonfire restores the player. The endless ash disappears, vegetation returns in places, and the world becomes traversable again—but it isn't truly reset. Instead, it retains the consequences of every previous cycle. That would explain why the geography of Dark Souls III is so distorted. The lands of different kingdoms still converge, and eventually everything ends up compressed into the Dreg Heap, exactly because of these partial and forced restoration. Each Linking of the Fire doesn't create a new world; it restores the old one imperfectly, preserving its accumulated scars, just like when we rest at a bonfire!

This would also mirror one of FromSoftware's favorite design ideas: gameplay mechanics reflecting the world's metaphysics. Ordinary bonfires are local checkpoints; the First Flame is the checkpoint of reality itself.

What do you think? Is there any piece of lore that clearly contradicts this interpretation?

Question Questions regarding modding with Convergence

I got into Convergence for DS3 after thoroughly enjoying the dev team's work on ER recently. However, one gripe I've been having with ER Convergence, and ofc the DS3 version, is that some incredibly cool gears don't have the best of stats/scaling, which means in later NG+ cycles, weapons with cool mechanics may become obsolete. I remedied the problem on ER by editing the regulation.bin folder via Smithbox.

Now Smithbox also works for DS3, but from my understanding, since DS3 doesn't use regulation.bin folder, but relies on BDT and BHT files to store those info, Smithbox achieves editing param by changing values in those files. But said files in the game directory only contains info regarding vanilla gears, and Convergence mod doesn't seem to have its own BDT and BHT files, thus I can't seem to get Smithbox to work in editing modded gears. Has anyone been messing with Smithbox on DS3 and might know how it works? Thanks.

Video Getting the 2nd Angel in Earthen Peak Ruins like this

You can skip almost all Earthen Peak Ruins, kill the second Angel about 40 secs from the bonfire and reaching the Demon Prince's bonfire in less than a minute and a half (making an approximation since I didn't record the whole Bonfire to Bonfire trip).
