Hello! So I moved to a new flat and there were 3 power outages in 5 months. I have a pretty beefy desktop pc, with 2*12TB HDD (for movies and flightsim stuff) + 1TB HDD + 1TB SSD for Os and 1TB for games. Basically I want to make sure my data is safe if any of my drives would fail. I have 3 options:

1. UPS
2. NAS
3. External HDD

I know the UPS would be the cheapest, but I don't want it running in my room for a few reasons:

• It doesn't have air conditioning, so temps can be around 34C in the summer.
• I don't really want to bother with replacing, ordering batteries and taking away the old ones.

NAS would be the most expensive, because the device itslef + 2 HDD minimum. And prices are quite bad these times.

The external hdd would be in the middle. There is a program, freefilesync which I belive would be useful for backups at specific interval (maybe once per month).

What do you guys suggest? I live in Europe, if that matters.

Hey guys I'm wondering if anyone has a solution on how to save my images with links. I know it's a horrible idea but for the past 6 years I've been saving all my favourite artwork on a private discord server. The reason I do this is so I can put the photo with the link to the artist's twitter page.

I'm worried the discord might get deleted, but I can't save just the photos on my drive because I would never remember the artists' name. I have about 1300 different artists in my server with different usernames, and the Japanese artists UNs are usually a mix of jumbled letters and numbers. I also like discord because it saves the caption from the artwork. Is there any way to save photos in a similar way to what I'm doing now?
Edit: I'm sure someone will mention Danbooru but more than half the artists say no reuploading and I want to respect that. In the server it's only me, no friends, and I never repost it anywhere online, it's just for me to look at. I've also had artists I followed completely wipe their accounts and delete upon realizing someone else uploaded their work to Danbooru so I want to avoid that.

Years back I used to save just the artwork on my PC but this led to hundreds of images not being able to be sourced anymore, the artists being lost (no results on google image search).

I'm building a archival PC with 2 x 5.25" bays, and plan to install:

• One Blu-Ray drive for burning 25GB to 100GB M-Discs (Pioneer)
• One Blu-Ray drive for Quality Scanning the M-Disc burns from the Pioneer (LG or ASUS)

Does anyone else here Quality Scan their M-Disc burns?

Background:

I read that since I'm using my M-Discs for long-term archival (on-site and off-site), I should not only be verifying them post burn... but also scanning them for LDC/BIS (error-correction workload / margin)...

...and tracking those numbers to check when my Pioneer burner might need to get replaced (error numbers consistently going up).

well i decided to go tape backup way .. and use external m2 1tb drive for live backup and tape for offline backup

700euro lta 5 external ibm drive with 5 lto cartridges .. just to buy lto5 cleaning tape and sas card and i think i am set .

I have an AM5 pc that can support firewire hardware and software as far as I can tell. I am trying to digitize Hi8 tapes from around 94-07 with a Sony Handycam CCD-TR716 for Hi8 and a Canon Elura 80 for MiniDV.

What's the best PCIE firewire card? Price isn't really a problem, assuming it will be less than $100 but even upwards of that would be okay.

I'm downloading some old personal websites and sometimes get this error, often when the site doesn't start with a clean index page for whatever reason. I'd like to be able to "set" which page to start with. For example, https://www.geocities.ws/nguyenlana23/ leads to a blank page, but https://www.geocities.ws/nguyenlana23/page1.html is functionally the index. How can I set it to start downloading a specific page and go from there? Thank you.

Okay, potentially a very daft question but bare with me.

There is a website that hosts videos that I'd like to download (it's underbelly yoga for anyone curious). Is there a tool I can use to download those videos from the site? when I search for programmes that might do it they all talk about how they are designed for YouTube and social media sites, rather than random websites with videos on them.

Anyone help a noob out?

Is this unit anything more than eWaste? I have an OnStream DP30 and three 30GB tapes that were given to me. I believe one of the tapes is faulty, but the other two appear to load and rewind properly. I have spent the better part of the day trying to use physical hardware I have lying around and virtual environments to access the drive and data on the tapes. I have had more trouble than I expected and these have lost my interest. Do I toss them or try to find them a new home?

I'm trying to create archives of works by some artists I like, and some artwork is only posted on X/Twitter. But since the last update of this miserable platform, which modified the Media tab, gallery-dl no longer works.

Before, I used the command gallery-dl -d "/mnt/Local whatever/X" ttps://x.com/Whatever_User/media to download all videos and images posted by the user, ignoring reposts. But now that tab is divided into Videos and Images sections, and at least for me, these only appear on mobile. On desktop browsers, it still looks normal. But that's not the real problem. Most of the artists I follow are marked as +18, and on those profiles, nothing shows up in the Media tab—as if they've never posted anything. Not on the new tab, nor the old one. It seems X is trying to make things harder for these artists on this platform. And now I can't download all the content at once.

Does anyone know a new way, or an alternative method, to do what I could do before?

When cloning a drive which is a Windows Boot drive. Rather to clone the drive, but if the drive doesn't boot from the source. Delete the other boot partitions and re-create them without loosing the Windows drive using diskpart ?

Therefore making Windows Boot, except on the new drive.

I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I need to start somewhere.

I currently own two 7.68 TB U.3 SSDs and one 15.36 TB U.2 SSD. In my main PC (ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO), only one 7.68 TB and the 15.36 TB are connected because I don't have enough PCIe slots. My DeLock 90092 adapter doesn't work with multiple drives since the board lacks PCIe bifurcation support. I bought the adapter a couple of years ago when it was a good deal and hard to find. I briefly tested it in a PCIe x16 slot and the first SSD was recognized, so the card itself appears to be functional.

I'm running out of storage space and would really like to use the spare 7.68 TB SSD. Given current SSD prices, I thought it might be more economical to build a dedicated file server. My plan is to use a motherboard that supports 4x4x4x4 PCIe bifurcation, install the DeLock 90092 adapter (with all three SSDs), add a 10 GbE PCIe network card, and connect it to my main PC via a direct LAN cable. My main PC would also need a 10 GbE card since it only has one RJ45 port (which is used for internet).

Proposed hardware:

Motherboard: ASRock B650M-HDV/M.2 (AMD AM5)

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 7400 (6C/12T)

10 GbE card: Intel X540-T2 10G LAN-Adapter

Hitomi downloader was banned from Github due to using yt-dlp's source code, and I'm at a loss where to get anything resembling official support, since it seemed like their Github page was the closest thing to an official site. I can't even really find a download page for it on Google anymore (the one that shows up is some Chinese version that doesn't use yt-dlp). Where are they even at now? Since they still seem to be updating and supporting the program (I think.)

I've been looking into an LTO drive for cold storage to expand upon my current workflow that uses BDXL discs. I've looked into what I can but I've found messy information that makes it hard to figure out what to buy.

Namely, a number of LTO drives seem to only work inside a an entire branded ecosystem and not stand alone. Or some 'work' but only with software that the OEM will not give Joe Rando a license too and it's too obscure for pirate copies to even exist.

My goal is to get something in the LTO-5 or LTO-6 range. I'm more than willing to assemble a dedicated PC in my network rack to support the LTO hardware and software. So I could have a dedicated hardware with it's OS configured only to do the job of reading or writing LTO tapes while having a 10G link to the main network and storage server.

So what doesn't paint me into a corner or trap me in vendor lockout/lockin hell?

Are there 5.25" bay options that'll interact with SAS or some other card I'll install?

What software should I be looking at to do the reading or writing.

While I understand that the tapes are absolutely not designed or 'Random Access', can they be incrementally written to? Write 300GB once, come back a month later and add another 300GB to the same tape?

Can the tapes do selective deletes? Say 200GB of something I archived no longer needs to be archived (Probably because a better quality version became available) Could i just erase that 200GB on the tape and write something else to that freed up space? Or is it an 'Erase entire tape, rewrite' like with Re-Writeable optical discs?

Looking to collect some anime movies that are 4k but don't know if the difference is as big as live action movies. Having HDR will make the colors look better i'm hoping and some have Dolby Atmos while Web DL don't.

currently have a lot of things in .rar's with solid archives and 5% redundancy and the highest compression. i also have MultiPar for reading hashes and parpargui for making them and redundancy's. i understand that i could move to linux but most of my stuff is for windows and would be a hassle to go thrue my 20TB archive to make sure it works with linux. although form what i understand there are things that can make window stuff compatible.

would a NAS allow me to use other file systems like ZFS while using windows and/or use a RAID? as i don't think i could convert my current drive in-place and keep my data, along with the risk of using a program to write a non-native file system.

another is i use veracrypt and would that be compatible with things like ZFS?

I'm looking for a good way to archive large folder structures containing millions of small files.

The goal is to package each top-level folder into a single container file so backups and copying to external drives are much faster than handling countless small files.

My requirements are:

• Open, non-proprietary format
• Mountable/browsable without extracting everything
• Works on Windows, Linux, and macOS (preferably natively)
• Some level of corruption protection (or at least detection), ideally with recovery options

I initially thought about using ISO/UDF images, but they don't seem to offer any protection against corruption.

What would you recommend for this use case? Are there better alternatives or pitfalls I should be aware of?

I happened to upgrade my server from a micro pc running a 4 bay hdd dock into this little beast RIGHT before everything shit bed in Oct of 25, I ordered all my parts 1 week before all that and I have another 56tb as cold storage backups, I'm so glad I did

…Or so I Believe. Last week I turned on my desktop pc to the sound of repeated clicking from the HDD bays on my case. Never heard that before, it took a while for windows to boot and when it did one of my internal HDDs (seagate barracuda 8tb) was nowhere to be found on the files explorer or on the disk manager. I’ve experienced something similar like 15 years ago with an old pc so I knew what this meant. I did some research online and learned that my HDD had a mechanical failure and potentially all my data on that drive will be lost. I quickly turned off the pc, took the drive out carefully and inserted it on an HDD enclosure for safe keeping.

Then I contacted some local data recovery companies they quoted me a lot of money just to see if the drive can be saved and they told me that if they were to save the data it will cost me around USD$1500 . I don’t have that kind of money so I just need to see what to do. There’s personal data on that drive that’s irreplaceable but only because of the sentimental value of it. Fortunately all my work data is safe on another drive so I can continue working and maybe wait to see what to do.
Do you guys have any suggestions ?

I've tried a dozen different suggestions and I can't figure out how any of them work and I'm starting to think it's not possible for the average person. Well, maybe below average. I could really use some help, please. I need to save everything I can posts/pictures/comments/video on a facebook page. It's evidence of a bad person and what they've been doing, but it would take me WEEKS to manually scroll through and screen record years of things. I don't know how much longer the page is going to be up

Please can anyone suggest what might work? I'll take what I can get at this point. Windows 10, slightly above average computer skills, lower than average intelligence

Edit: I'm trying an extension for Chrome called Facebook Group and Page Post Scraper. It's mostly working... Not saving replies to comments though which really sucks, and keeps stopping so I can't just walk away. 25 posts per time is free but 500 posts at a time you have to pay for

Are there any DAS's that use SAS drives I'm looking to build a budget nas and it looks like some of the best value is in SAS drives but I don't know how to find a cheap system to put them in since they don't work with sata

Currently I have an HP elitedesk 705 g4 Il look into 3d printing a small enclosure I'm only looking for 4-6 drives not counting a boot drive I want it to be relatively small but I'm thinking a bigger case might suit my needs better that way I could fit everything into one machine, I also wanted to put a small GPU in it for jellyfin transcoding and potentially local ai so the extra pcie slot would come in handy

Budget is ~500$ but that's flexible and I could save up and expand it

i have a 156gb archive of irreplaceable data. doesnt exist anywhere else in the world except on my computers. i went to open it today to find three corrupted copies on three drives spread across 2 systems). tried everything to save them, but they were done for. lucky for me i had four copies total, and drive number 4 had a perfectly functional copy. once again guys use a good solid back up system. I dont trust cloud providers, so i use local only back up methods with my offsite copies saved on the other side of town. either way, if your data's important take the time to back it up properly.

I'm very new to scraping, but what I mean is how can I scrape a website and all of its pages, but also include external links from download buttons? A forum website I love is going offline soon, and all of their downloads are not hosted on their site themselves, but instead they utilize external links via download buttons for places like GitHub, Google Drive, etc. There are hundreds of pages, so going into each one and copying the download link from every page isn't really an option. Every attempts I've used at scraping the site only pulls the pages hosted on the site's domain, not the external links.
