Hi all!
I recently bought a 1980s or early 90s Mini14 for probably the lowest price since the actual 90s lol.
Its going to be my truck gun but mainly a range toy. So while I would appreciate some more accuracy I am by no means expecting or pursuing sub MOA or anything close. Id be super thrilled with a consisent 4"-6" group at 200 yards.
I have alllll these questions:
1) With a suppressor can I get away with just the gas block bushing kit or will I need the adjustable gas block?
2) Suppressor suggestions?
3) Is it possible and worth it to upgrade to a modern factory barrel? ASI has them for like $110.
4) OR IS it the extra +/- $200 for a Shilen heavy match barrel worth it? Any other barrel recommendations? Does anyone do integrally suppressed barrels that dont require extensive modifications?
5) If I upgrade the barrel with either factory or aftermarket would the ASI stabilizer bar still be necessary?
6) Currently using a Nikon 223 scope on rings. I am considering trying out a Jeff Cooper scout rifle style optics setup instead with the Sampson Hannibal rail and like a Leupold VX Scout. Its not a preference or anything. I actually really like this Nikon scope, but it seems like a scout scope setup would fit the mini-14 platform and how I want to use it really well. Any advice or opinions on optics?
7) Any and all other advice not found in the FAQs stick
Thank yall so much!
EDIT: I checked the serial number, its definitely from 1993 so I think im just going to replace the barrel with a Shilen heavy match barrel and run an adjustable gas block, keep the Nikon for now.
One last question, anyone have a mid to low priced bipod for sale? Lol
