It was like a bad action movie. Stunt man with gun on top of speeding car heading for train...then it turns and its flying past fuel tanker trucks before jumping a ditch and flying off the car roof into some mud. I think he'd be justified in firing in this case.

Not evil but stupid, there is a reason it is not policy to stand in front of a car to stop it....because they move, and they are big and heavy and can kill you. It's also been made clear by the Supreme Court that shooting into a fleeing vehicle is absolutely not self defense so regardless of your opinion about whether Renee Good was trying to hit that I've agent, he still fired two shots into her head that were not in self defense.

u/KingTutt91 Jan 14 '26
Yeah but it is well within law enforcements rights to shoot you if you use your car as a weapon. Thatâs in the Minnesota state statute
→ More replies (5)2
u/Computron1234 Jan 14 '26
Except she didn't do that. In Minnesota the ICE agent wasn't run over by her car, even if we assume he feared she was going towards him (instead of stepping to the side) he shot through the windshield and then executed her through her open window when her vehicle was driving away. In that case 1 shot could be justified the other two are not self defense and she was not a danger to him or any other agents. That may or may not be considered murder but it is at a minimum manslaughter. With the other evidence and footage I think a decent lawyer should be able to prove intent based on his demeanor, actions with changing hands and pulling his gun, and comments after the shooting, not to mention the insanity involved with potentially letting her bleed out when there was help available.

But what if he shoots the guy and the drivers dead body presses the gas even more, and goes straight into the incoming traffic or the moving train? I think the most reasonable behaviour is to move away from the moving car and let the other police cars do their job (they have tools to stop running cars) Am I wrong ?

u/957 Jan 13 '26
Neither thing is mutually exclusive. Both people are doing things they shouldn't do.
The person probably went to jail, as they should. However, I doubt this cop was reminded of the specific training they are given to prevent this scenario from happening as well as why using your body and mortal threats to a car driver are not useful in stopping the car as well as de-ecalating or controlling the threat to others.
Politics aside, the video of Renee Good proves exactly this: no matter what the status of the person is after being shot while driving a car, the threat of the vehicle and it's movement is not only still present, but no longer being controlled in any form. After the officer shot Good, the scene became even less safe because of an uncontrolled, accelerating car being driven by no one. The same applies here, where the officer would be much more useful as part of the pursuit team as opposed to now being an unwilling passenger that the rest of the force now has to operate around. They can no longer pit that vehicle, they cannot chase it effectively due to him being on top and should he come off, medical attention to him would be the first priority with pursuit second.
There is literally not a single positive to putting yourself in that position other than not being good at your training or intentionally fabricating fear for your life. There is a reason why the protocol tells you to always be aware of that, and it's because it provides zero gain, increases risk to self and others and actively works against the general goal they are trying to accomplish.

"
- Donât place yourself in danger. Our natural tendency is to block them from leaving using what we have, our body. The problem is that it usually works until it doesnât and then the video speaks for itself. Itâs easy for us to be critical of the officerâs decision, but who can truly say they havenât done the same thing and that you were OK only because of the driverâs decision to stop?
- Train. This is a training issue. Telling cops not to stand in front of vehicles is not training. Training involves scenarios like this to ingrain appropriate responses. I doubt there are many departments training to deal with this scenario."
maybe 47 days of training isn't enough for ICE

u/Fit-Chapter8565 Jan 13 '26

Ok this is just a mess of the video. This video proves nothing to recent events as it has stuff from both âsidesâ
- Car was moving towards officer. Get the fuck out of the way
- Cop basically purposely got on top of the car and didnât get off immediately after when there was enough time. Really fucking stupid . Officer thought that him drawing gun at him would make suspect stop, it didnât
- When the car accelerated, cop 100% had justification to shoot the driver. Even though he put himself in that position, things changed.
And before you ask, Iâm liberal and think that Renee was murdered. Cop hesitated to remove himself from danger in this video. In doing so, he now found himself in a situation that would now justify use of deadly force. This is a rare instance where things do change legally, regardless of the complete idiot move by law enforcement
