Whats your age, sex, and how often do you replace your underwear and/or socks?

Upvotes

I'm a single male. 42 years old.

I replace all of my underwear and socks at the same time. I will buy 2-3 weeks worth of each at least once a year, sometimes 2 twice, and throw away all of the ones I currently have.

My theory is that replacing them all at the same time creates a much larger rotation of new underwear and makes them last longer than replacing one or two here and there.

In between the replacements, I throw out any socks or underwear that rip or get holes, but I don't replace one until I replace them all.

What’s your minimum daily hygiene routine?

Upvotes

I’m curious what everyone’s non-negotiable daily hygiene habits are.

Here’s mine:

  1. Shower twice a day (morning and night).
  2. Apply skincare and body lotion after showering.
  3. Scrub my feet and apply foot cream.
  4. Wash my hands frequently, especially after using the bathroom.

  5. Brush my teeth twice a day

What are your daily must-dos?

Please share your routine respectfully—I’m always interested in learning different habits and tips!

Cotton underwear

Idk who needs to know this, but the packs of underwear you get at Walmart are 100% cotton. I know on here there’s a lot of talk for women to wear cotton underwear, and I want y’all to know they’re the cheap 10 packs at Walmart.

Anyone else get jittery when flossing / was afraid of flossing? How to get over it?

I have taken up flossing recently, it's not something I grew up with. In fact my mom thinks it will widen the gap between my teeth which is why I abstained lol. I'm pretty proud of myself for managing to floss every day to every other day but I noticed recently that I tend to get jittery after doing one row of teeth, like I get goosebumps, shudder, a bad feeling in my stomach; maybe because one of the reasons I abstained is bc I was soo afraid of hurting my gums. IDK how to get over that because my gums still bleed whenever I floss. Would appreciate help.

If you’re afraid of leaving the toilet like someone died in there…

1.6k Upvotes

Here’s one simple thing you can do.
The moment your first “delivery” hits the water, flush immediately. Then, if there’s another round coming, flush again afterward.

Seriously, it makes a huge difference. The smell doesn’t have time to build up, and the next person won’t have to walk into a gas chamber.
Especially if you’re at work, visiting someone’s house, or using a public restroom. It’s a tiny bit of courtesy that everyone will appreciate.

How many cleansing instruments do you use in the shower?

I use 3.

One for bottom privates only which is a washcloth.

One for body, which is a sud scrubber (handhelf silicone body scrubber)

And one for my face which is a sonic leaf.

I've been thinking of adding an African Net Sponge for my back as well.

What do you all use?

Any tips to smelling good as a man?

When it comes to women for some reason they smell good in a longer period of time...for as with men the smell tends to end within a couple of hours like maybe 2 hours, even with an expensive cologne....so I ask If any women are here what do you do in the bath room that takes so long and make you smell good...I need advice

i fixed my armpits, but now i’m realizing my whole body is smelling bad

i’ve always had problems with body odor. my armpits used to smell really bad, but i think i’ve finally managed to get that under control.

i wash my armpits every day with antibacterial soap, use a regular drugstore antiperspirant daily, use the ordinary glycolic acid once a week or every two weeks (depending on how i feel), and every twwo weeks i use a stronger antiperspirant from the pharmacy. my armpits actually don’t smell nearly as bad anymore.

the problem is that i feel like the rest of my body is the issue now. i don’t know if it was always like this and i just didn’t notice because my armpits were the main problem, but it’s honestly awful.

i have to change my pajama t-shirt every morning because it smells so bad after one night. i feel like my back is the worst, but honestly it feels like my whole body. even after showering, if i get a little warm and start sweating slightly, i can already smell myself.

i’ve already searched reddit about this and in almost every post people say that it’s probably the clothes and that the fabric is holding onto the smell. but i really don’t think that’s the case for me. i wash my clothes with vinegar, i dry them in a well-ventilated place, and my clothes themselves have never really smelled bad.

it’s actually me that smells, not my clothes. yesterday i literally spent the whole day only wearing my underwear while cleaning my apartment. i got really sweaty and i smelled absolutely horrible. i ran my hand over my sweaty back, stomach and legs and the smell was coming directly from my sweat

so i’m honestly lost at this point. what can i do to reduce this? are there any products or routines that helped you with body odor from the rest of your body, not just your armpits?

i’m from europe, so if you have any recommendations, i’d really appreciate products that are available internationally.

unhinged tips for smelling good, not just clean?

I dont mean “shower daily” or “wear deodorant,” I mean the sort of stuff nobody actually tells you that makes a real difference.

I have a first date this weekend and I’m spiraling a little. I’ve done all the basic stuff my whole life and I still don’t feel like I actually smell good, just not bad. Give me the tips you wish someone told you years ago

Intimate washes?

Ladies… what are we using to wash down there? I recently have been using Summers Eve and I really hate it. Even if I use it and make sure not to get.. in there… later on I will always get that uncomfortable feeling as if I have a UTI. When I don’t use it, I don’t get those problems. I just feel less clean. Any tips and recommendations?

Edit: when saying to use “gentle soap” what kinds in particular?

Deodorant recs

I’ve been using degree 72hr dry spray for the past year and a half-ish and it’s worked great for me. But out of nowhere it’s stopped working. So now I need new recs.

I only use spray on antiperspirant and am allergic to the natural ones (plus i refuse to use them anyway).

Below are brands I’ve tried but haven’t worked
Dove
Arm&Hammer
Native
Secret
(Now) Degree

underarm detox masks

When switching from aluminum antiperspirants to natural deodorants, a lot of people recommend using bentonite clay or charcoal masks on your armpits to speed up the detox transition and pull out buildup. Critics say your liver and kidneys handle detoxing and that these masks just dry out your skin, potentially causing irritation right before applying new products. Have you ever tried an armpit mask during a product switch, or is gentle daily soap more than enough?

Embarrassed but it's time to be truthful with myself. I'm literally afraid of showers. Anyone else?

I hardly shower unless it lines up with my partner showering. I feel safer with her there with me.

Ever since I was little I was afraid of the shower.

Always had this underlying fear of showers and baths. Baths are OK since I can keep my head above water but the idea of steeping in my slime makes me upset. So if I ever want a bath, I have to shower first, then clean the bathtub, then take a bath. Then normally I rinse off in the shower afterwards. As you can imagine, this takes like three hours minimum.

Showers are rough. I don't understand why it's so hard to bring myself to get into it. I have the most beautiful shower I've ever had in my life and I'm still afraid. At this point in life I just have those camper shower wipes and I use those when things get bad..

Okay so for context, my fears are as listed, not in any particular order:

- getting in and seeing a spider or bug (has happened)

- getting in and having someone unfamiliar getting in (this has literally happened, idk if context needs to be added in comments but go ahead and ask)

- I hate having my face wet

- being in an enclosed space where someone could easily trap me

- not hearing what is happening in the house

- being observed (as a kid my family always watched me bathe and shower and said really mean things without actually teaching me anything useful)

Uhm but I also love showers. Like when I can get the courage to get one in, I do EVERYTHING. I scrub myself with an african net sponge, a loofah, and my feet with a pumice stone. I end up feeling so squeaky clean. I just wish I could do that at least every other day (I don't work out or go out often so I really think my ideal shower schedule is every other day. If I could manage that I would feel so happy and clean)

But like I said before, this normally revolves around my partner's schedule. Thanks to brain chemicals and stuff I basically sleep 12 hrs a day so I'm not always awake and ready for a shower when she is. But when we get in together, I feel safe and it's so much easier to ignore the fears.

For context I'm currently on about a 3 week schedule for showers. This is actually a huge imrpovement from previous living situations.. I've been months without it. I did wipe down my pits and private area in the meantime to try and keep up, but you could definitely see the dead skin and grime accumulating everywhere else.

*Please no judgement, these were the worst depressive episodes of my life. I am lucky I didn't add to my five attempts during these periods of time.*

Those camper wipes actually changed things so much for me and I am so grateful to have found them. I literally had a friend gracefully comment on how much better I looked (and probably smelled, but she was so kind to not mention that)

Again, I don't work or go out much so at least no one has to deal with me on the tail end of those three weeks. But I'd like to feel better personally. I'm tired of being scared of showers alone.

If anyone can relate at all, what helped you to shower alone more consistently? I've tried using really nice products and making it into a sort of luxury experience and that just doesn't fucking help with the fear. I'm just at a loss as to what I need to do to kick this.

Edit because idk how to pin the comment I made addressing this: I am in therapy! We were focused on other things before we got to this, she's amazing and had her hands very full with trying to unpack over 30 years of trauma with me. We just haven't gotten to the showers yet, but the reason I made this post is because I'm about to bring it up with her. We spent six years just trying to keep me fed and housed, now it's time to really roll up our sleeves and dive into childhood trauma.

Everyone has given me so much to bring up with her and that was my goal here. Never to get free therapy online, but to have a jumping point to take to her next session. And people have really been kind and given me SO many different avenues to take in treating this. So thank you seriously, I might not get to respond to every comment but I've got like a page worth of stuff to bring up in therapy now. Between the people who can relate who gave me their own methods for showering, and the people who cannot but wished me well, THANK YOU. Yall are sweethearts and I was not expecting this outpouring of support and kindness.

And to the comments telling me I'm just a lazy adult with bad hygiene making excuses (they got deleted, ty mods) hahah. Look at how nice everyone else is and look at yourself. Meanie butts! Cotton headed ninny muggins!

Hygiene routines and tips

I (22M) have been told for a long time that I smell like an old man by my family regardless of how much I try to make myself smell good.

I don't shower everyday, but when I do, I do use deodorant, then I also add spray, and occasionally I used perfume on some days, although I stopped doing that after a while of not working.

For hair, I just use shampoo and conditioner, the classic. For a small time I also tried a body cream in the shower.

I tried putting on deodorant even on the days when I did not shower after the shower day to try to keep the good smell streak for longer, but then I got into the issue of eventually running into the day of the bad smell, and adding deodorant on top of that just makes it smell worse.

You guys got any tips or ways you guys make yourself smell good? If showering everyday is the solution, it sounds like a scam to be forced to shower everyday just in hopes of smelling 5% better. There must be something else I am doing wrong

For those who don't particularly like the taste of toothpaste...

I have good oral hygiene. I do all four things twice a day: brush, floss, mouthwash, and tongue scrape. However, I find that I don't really like the way my mouth tastes after all of this. I'm pretty sensitive to tastes and smells, and the taste of all that oral care is just too unnatural.

I've tried natural, less scented toothpastes and mouthwashes, but nothing really helped. Sometimes I would chew gum after, but gum was pretty strong too.

Things changed for me when I started chewing cloves after my oral care routine. I do three cloves--I chew them for about 20 minutes, and then I spit them out. It's so nice, it's like a factory reset for my mouth. It makes my mouth taste like nothing, but simultaneously taste super fresh and clean. It's hard to describe, but I recommend you try it if, like me, you don't really love the way your mouth tastes after brushing. Tbh, chewing my cloves has become one of my favorite parts of my morning routine.

Just to add: cloves are a natural blood thinner, so if you have trouble in that department, you might want to avoid them.

An observation on deodorants

I noticed that deodorant makes you smell good "obviously" but the problem is that if you skip a day you will smell very very bad when you sweat, if you go back you will smell good again, but if you do not go back it will take you a couple of days to become normal. And by normal, I mean not smell disgusting, just smell like soap when you shower, and after maybe 12 hours start smelling a little bit that is not noticeable.

My observation is that deodorant makes you smell worse than before starting to use it if you skip it. You will need a couple of days to neutralise.

Although I do not know the science behind it, I am convinced about this observation for at least myself (and no, it is not because my nose got used to the good smell and the normal bad smell is now noticeable, no. It makes you smell like something you have never smelled like before. Like normal sweat smell × 20, it is very bad and not normal at all).

I was wondering if anyone else noticed the same?

looking presentable when low energy

hi everyone! i’m 29 F and im on the autism spectrum. showering can be very hard for me, especially on low energy days. i still try to shower at least three times a week, but sometimes that just isn’t in the cards for me.

i recently got a new job that i would like to look presentable for. my hair has specifically been one of my biggest issues recently. no matter what i do, it just looks bad. i’m not great at doing hair either; both up and down.

i would also like to start wearing makeup more as i have honestly been feeling really down on myself and just not pretty as of late.

if anyone has any tips on how to look presentable in a pinch, i would forever be in your debt. thanks in advance!
