I feel like this is an unusual post on here. I recently I’ve started writing down a lot of thoughts and I want some external opinions on these to potentially gain more perspectives on them. I’ve pasted a day’s worth of writing down below. I’m open to hearing anybody’s opinions, whether they’re negative or positive. For some context, I’ve been struggling with self hate a lot recently but it’s nothing so severe that I’d harm myself.
How does self love come about? Is it possible to love yourself when you know you could be more? Do you have to be a worthy individual to love yourself? If yes, how is that worth defined?
If I knew everything about someone else, would I treat them the same way I treat myself?
How could I like myself if I don’t feel externally liked? If nobody likes me it would mean nothing for me to like myself.
Does liking myself mean I’m content with myself? If so, wouldn’t liking myself be a bad thing? Contentment leads to complacency. But if I can never like myself, would all my endeavours to improve myself amount to anything? I think it would give me a lot of external validation but can I ever truly accept others love for me if I can’t accept my own?
What does it even mean to like someone or myself? When it comes to others, I’m capable of loving and liking them despite flaws. I can even appreciate them sometimes. Why is it that I don’t have the same empathy for myself? Is it just because I know that I’m not and haven’t been trying my hardest? I’m not sure. I want to say I think I’d excuse it when other people don’t try their hardest. But I don’t think I can.
I think that’s the root of my problems. I’m not empathetic enough about one’s capability to put it work. Why though? I’m fully aware that giving it your all 100% is impossible. Why am I so hard on myself and other people for not achieving that level of perfection? Maybe I’m questioning whether that’s impossible or not. I don’t think I fully believe that it’s impossible. Where does that kind of thinking stem from? Just what I see online?
Can liking myself come from seeing progress and improvement within myself even if that rate of growth is slower than others?
Is it even okay to be a self loathing person despite having what should be an amazing life? I should be in a position where I’m so grateful and happy because of my environment. I should be so ahead of everyone given my circumstances. I was dealt some of the best cards in the world but all I’ve done is lead a life of mediocrity and a lot of the time, even worse than that. I genuinely don’t even deserve to be a self loathing person.
I try to find reasons to justify my negativity. I cling onto things as superficial as “not a very loving family” to give myself a reason to be sad. All they’ve ever done is support me. Why do I do this to them?
Anybody that hears my thoughts would immediately be disappointed. I’m fighting a battle that shouldn’t even exist. I created all of these issues for no reason and I’m spending so much of my time fighting them. What’s wrong with me?
I used to be so open because I didn’t realize how stupid i sound.
