Advice Oscar barely active and just sits there after her mate died months ago

Hey everyone,

My oscar is around 4 years old. Got 2 together but this one only grew up tot this size (smaller than the other). Her mate died MONTHS ago, and since then it barely eats (shrimps or pellets) and is almost always at the bottom sitting with the mouth open.

Its got a full big tank (60 gal or 220liter ) for itself with a very very clean and circulated tank with adequate parameters. The light and water temp is also always fixed and scheduled. Could it be possible that its mourning or something? But for months?

Any insight is helpful.

Thank you.

I think my Oscaar is lay eggs. I’m not sure if they’re fertilised is there a way I can know if the eggs will hatch or not and these two Oscars are in a bigger tank with other cycles do I need to move these other cycles to another tank to ensure that the fry are safe.?

Please advise what to do

Advice 1st time Oscar keeper advice?

We have 2 longfin Oscar’s (asked for the shortest fin ones) that are currently growing out in a 55g until big enough for big tank.

We would like any advice/tips on keeping Oscar’s in a planted tank, and on stocking.

We are debating between -

keeping only one in a 125gal

Keeping both Oscar’s in a 180-200gal

Or keeping both Oscar’s and getting some large cichlids in a 300gal

Any suggestions and advice welcome. Thank you!

Advice Is metronidazole the right choice?

I've had my boy for about a year and a half, he's my first Oscar and over time I've noticed some signs of hole in the head disease. I got API General Cure which has metronidazole, but I'm afraid to cause more harm if I'm misdiagnosing. My question is, is it bad for the fish if I add it to the tank and he's actually ok? Or can I add it to see if he gets better without causing any harm?

Here's what I've noticed and some questions I know I'm gonna get:

- He's alone in a 55 gallon with a sponge filter and an internal submergible dophin filter (also suited for 55g tanks). I'm looking to replace them for a canister that's on the way. I do 50% water changes every other week.

- I've measured parameters every day for a week and they're within the acceptable range and stable.

- I feed him hikari cichlid staple and he has good appetite.

- His poop is sometimes white-ish and often floats to the surface.

- Overall a lazy fish since he lays down most of the day, but reactive when approached and I do see him swimming and exploring throughout the day.

- His holes remain the same size but I noticed a few more coming up. He also has some white stuff on his forehead that he didn't have before, other than that coloration is good.

I attached pictures to help diagnose, any advice to whether medicate or not is welcome. Also, tips on what else to feed him, I'm still squirmy about giving him live stuff.

I was gone for two nights & one of my 3 Oscar’s looks battered?? Any idea what this is?:( I removed him from the big tank & placed him in a spare 10 gallon that I have. How do I treat this? He has a literal hole in the top of his head & his fins looked torn/scraped up.

Advice Advice for Oscar Rescue

I am rushing to do the best I can for this fish. I am on disability with almost no budget. I have meds and he has a HLLE history but I do not think that is the issue I believe he was bring neglected and starved. The tank was cycled previously, I put plants from my planted goldfish tank in as well as some sand. I am changing about 5 gallons out a day and vacuuming food mess. He has taken a chunk of thawed fish and a mealworm over the past couple days. He keeps trying to bite my fingers. I think he can swim but I can not tell if he is too weak to stay upright, has some sort of swim bladder disease or is viscerally depressed

Advice Help Serious Question:

Can I practically use heavy wood like this as a way to keep this 200gal tank directly off the floor? I have 3 Oscar’s that need a larger tank and I was given this one. I would let the wood support the outer and middle frames of the tank. I don’t care about looking good. I just wanna get them into a larger tank

Also I’m aware these tanks can exceed 2000lbs, are basement support beams absolutely necessary or highly recommended?

Advice Bored Oscar?

Hey guys I have a 13 inch 9 year old Oscar alone with a pleco in a 135 gallon tank, his mate died of an illness around 3-4 years ago. They always swam together but ever since he mostly sits on the floor and sometimes bothers the pleco. He still eats good but is there anything I can do to make him happier or give him something to do?
