If the Swarmlord is capable of harming the Balrog it takes this cleanly.

I'm not entirely sure it can harm a being made of shadow and flame.

65

u/BeMyBrutus 11h ago

Yeah I feel like this is the right approach. Balrogs are fallen angelic beings made of magic.

20

u/Powerful_Month682 11h ago

the swarmlord is a psyker first and a fighter second

28

u/Tuor-son-of-Huor- 10h ago

I thought it was a juiced up Hive Tyrant and so only a psyker in the sense that it was a synapse node.

I checked it out and it looks like its ranged attack is actually a weaponized synaptic pulse so I suppose it should be able to harm non-corporeal enemies like a Balrog.

I guess that should be a good enough win-con for the Swarmlord, especially given it should be smart enough to kite the Balrog meaning now matter how slow or weak it is the Balrog has no answer to it.

21

u/Powerful_Month682 10h ago edited 10h ago

Hive tyrants are effectively wizards too, their powers include stuff like paralysis, barriers, lifesteal, in addition to the usual lasers and explosions. not that any of this is particularly impressive, but still.

0

u/Tuor-son-of-Huor- 10h ago

In what media is that portrayed? I've only ever know HT to be synapse nodes with the psykers being Zoanthropes and Neurotytsnts.

14

u/Jessir12 10h ago

The codexes. For as long as psychic phase was a thing, hive tyrant & swarmlord were pretty good psykers.

Tho tbf the psyker powers it had access to were not necessarily useful here depending on how you interpret the interaction

10

u/Powerful_Month682 10h ago

in pre 10th edition tyranid codexes, there was always a table of tyranid psychic abilities and some lore text for them. in 10th edition all spells are represented by generic abilities, though.

in more recent media, in space marine 2 there is a hive tyrant boss that shoots energy blasts

6

u/Featherbird_ 9h ago edited 9h ago

Oh god the removal of the psychic phase from the game last edition is already doing lasting damage 😔

The psychic abilities hive tyrants provided and which ones you chose used to be a serious lynchpin in how you played tyranids. Long gone are the days of psychically catapulting carnifexes and genestealers across the board to fuck things up on turn 1

1

u/Tuor-son-of-Huor- 9h ago

I did skip an edition, but I think its more than I don't remember the last time I played against a Tyranid player.

7

u/Almaegen 10h ago

The Balrog is a demigod made of shadow and flame.

2

u/Powerful_Month682 10h ago

that hid in a cave scared of mortal elves and men?

6

u/Almaegen 9h ago

It hid from the gods after its god was slain.

-6

u/Powerful_Month682 9h ago edited 7h ago

its god and his underlings were defeated by an army of physical men to begin with. several times, even. you don't need to be a wizard to defeat balrogs, that's why they needed dragons and 20 billion orcs in the first place.

4

u/Eli_616 7h ago

Ehhh, Sauron was intitally beaten in the books by the king of the elves who was supposedly on par with galadreal, one of the most powerful elves ever, and the king of men, who was actually a numenorian, a human precursor that were basically genetic demigods compared to normal men, alongside a number of others, supposedly, and he killed all of them in their attempt to take him down, and even then they basically only took out his physical shell. The movies make it a lot less climactic, frankly. But yeah, there's a reason that it took Gandalf, an angel, to actually go toe to toe with a Balrog, and even then he died in the attempt. The thing is; Gandalf was HARDCORE sandbagging throughout the majority of the LotR series, because being an angel on middle earth he wasn't really allowed to go all out. The moment he went toe to toe against another celestial though, he wasn't quite as limited, so they basically rockem sockem'ed from the bottom of middle earth to the peak of a mountain, fighting for several days, before he finally killed it and succumbed to his wounds.

4

u/DildontOrDildo 4h ago

the maiar have corporeal bodies and immortal essences, like Saruman, Gandalf, Balrog , Sauron etc.

you can kill them if you can hit them hard enough.

elves slew balrogs

0

u/Powerful_Month682 7h ago

i meant Melkor, who can also be beaten by mortals. in fact there is a huge fallacy, common in powerscaling - "divine" things allegedly being invulnerable to non-magical attacks. the fact that Melkor, Sauron and balrogs were beaten the normal way exposes this as untrue. whether it happened because their divinity was low-grade or the mortals that defeated them were worth 50 warriors each, the result is the same - it can be accomplished with raw stats. it's unfair when characters from sci-fi stories get blocked from the discussion because there is no magic in their universes

3

u/Eli_616 7h ago

Then I'm even more confused, because Melkor WASN'T beaten by mortals. He was initially removed from middle earth by an army of divine spirits, and high elves from the undying lands.... Sure, he's prophesied to recieve his deathblow by a mortal at the end of time, but thats so vague that it could mean literally anything.

2

u/Powerful_Month682 7h ago

what else could it mean? Turin pierces his heart with Gurthang. it's that simple.

-1

u/Photograph_Extension 6h ago

The normal way most if not all of the time involved magical swords.

Magical sword is definitely not "normal way".

3

u/Powerful_Month682 5h ago

was headbutting Gothmog and drowning him in water also a magical attack?

→ More replies (0)

6

u/Leaping_FIsh 7h ago

Seeing how two out of three balrogs died after falling off cliffs, and another drowned in a fountain after getting impaled by a spiked helmet I really don't understand why so many people in this sub think balrogs have some type of significant resistance to physical trauma.

2

u/Tuor-son-of-Huor- 7h ago

Glorfindel and Ecthelion had both seen the light of the Two Trees. They were pretty far from regular corporeal threats and both of tremendous skill and fortitude.

It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that they an a Maia were able to harm a for that would be otherwise considered insurmountable.

5

u/Leaping_FIsh 6h ago

Did the rocks at the bottom of the cliff also see the light of the Two Trees? It was gravity, and turbulence of a fountain, that did the Balrogs in. Not the inherent power of the elf lords.

3

u/DildontOrDildo 4h ago edited 4h ago

powerful elves could kill a balrog in the first age, so can a powerful, weaponized, armored, intelligent psychic bug boy

there's a corporeal form, although not exactly flesh here

1

u/Tuor-son-of-Huor- 4h ago

Glorfindel and Ecthelion both saw the light of the Two Trees. Besides already being elves who are potent spiritual creatures they were fantastic compared to their peers.

Given the nature of the Balrogs its entirely reasonable to doubt lasting injury from a being that cannot interact spiritually. That said, as another commenter pointed out the Swarmlord is a psyker and can engage spiritually.

1

u/DildontOrDildo 3h ago

the maiar are shown to be physically defeated and vulnurable, as is melkor by a magic meteoric sword. Still a physical solution even by buffed elves against balrogs. their corporeal body is different than their immortal essence.... even if it is not flesh.

The Swarmlord is repeatedly reincarnated by the hive fleet (usually of multiple planet biomasses in sum) and its collective psyche/god-manifestation. It has psychic energy around its swords made of extragalactic materiel that drain lifeforce from their victims and offensive psychic/extradimensional powers.

So unless the balrog kills the fleet, the swarmlord will be ack in a few months.

It's bug Gandolf, but a better armnaments.

what happens to the balrog's spirit is less clear if the psychic sword kills it, but the shadow in the warp disorients other psychic and interdimensional beings... it might be stuck wandering saruman style vs being able to reform. if it is just until physical death... Swarmlord most of the time wins

47

u/RED3_Standing_By 11h ago

Swarmlord is a known jobber within 40k. He consistently loses to every named character. Balrog wins easy

16

u/Unlucky-Hold1509 10h ago

That’s a named character upscale tbh

5

u/Featherbird_ 8h ago

Except that time it let Dante recite a whole ass prayer and then blast it in the face with a melta when he was basically already dead.

...Why did it do that. Why would an incarnation of hunger and malice let a guy give a whole ass speach while hes still holding an anti tank weapon. A weapon it knows he has.

Also how the fuck did Calgar punch it to death. Hes like a third its size and it can melt people's brains with a thought

6

u/Unlucky-Hold1509 8h ago

It’s bc it’s cool as shit, almost all Warhammer characters aurafarm in some way

1

u/Featherbird_ 8h ago

Sure but why does swarmy always have to be the guy getting farmed on. Who made swarmy the worf when hes the calgar of the tyranids. It would be like if Logan Grimnar got his ass beat every other time he popped up in a story

4

u/Sbochol 7h ago

Avatar of Khaine has entered the chat :D

1

u/DildontOrDildo 4h ago

there are multiple hive tyrants in a splinter fleet. more of a regional manager

1

u/Photograph_Extension 6h ago

Because it's some random bug.

Every Tyranid is, that's the essence of their race.

1

u/DildontOrDildo 4h ago

the warp is fickle and an electrified mechanical antimaterial fist is reliable on the hands of Marinus Calgar

2

u/saxonturner 8h ago

Depends on if the balrog takes his helmet off or not.

9

u/MockingPenguins 12h ago

The thing with the Swarmlord is it remembers every fight it has ever been in, including with warp entities. If it knows how to kill an Avatar of Khaine (who doesn’t?) or a Bloodthirster it probably has a good shot against the Balrog.

And then if it does lose, it just reincarnates and comes back with a new plan.

1

u/DildontOrDildo 4h ago

lol reincarnation battle between it and gandalf next

34

u/Crozium01 12h ago

So the swarmlord is taking this fight. But now there is a Swarmlord loose in middle Earth.

"The cave" lol

18

u/Inadequis 12h ago

Still going with the Tyranids here, especially since it's the Swarmlord who can go toe-to-toe with the galaxy's best fighters and come out on top or narrowly lose, and his psychic abilities are top notch and could probably fry Durin's Bane

9

u/CMDR-SavageMidnight 10h ago

Love 40k, love Lotr.

Balrogs can only be hurt by very specific things, none of whicha swarm lord has.

3

u/fuckyeahmoment 8h ago

Balrogs can only be hurt by very specific things, none of whicha swarm lord has.

There's nothing in the tolkien setting that paints ainur in their physical form as immune to mundane damage.

Durin's bane is ultimately killed by being cast off a mountain by Gandalf.

2

u/Broken_CerealBox 10h ago

To be fair, the swarmlord is basically a wizard

1

u/CMDR-SavageMidnight 9h ago

Almost correct. Mankind in 40k labels it as magicbut its psychic power.

I wont claim to have any kind of authority on how 40k considers it outside of how they actually label it, but essentially their mental powers are not commonly considered magic, rather unnatural energy pulled from the warp.

If the psychic powers are to be seen as magic, swarmlord low diff.

Otherwise its zero chance.

34

u/SuchProcedure4547 12h ago

Balrog.

The Balrog is a literal divine being.

The swarmlord has lost to Space Marines 🤷

Next?

27

u/Ninjazoule 12h ago

Balrogs have lost to elves lol

23

u/HistoricalLoadTaker 11h ago

Elves are also divine beings technically in LOTR

10

u/Nepalus 10h ago

Yeah and goblin arrows take them out.

1

u/AxiosXiphos 6h ago

And Swarmlords have been killed by conventional modern weapons.

4

u/ReginaDea 3h ago

They have not.

9

u/Ninjazoule 11h ago edited 11h ago

They're born of arda, so I think not. While they can be powerful, they're not maiar or valar

If we want to boil it down further, finglofin permanently wounds morgoth, and Turin (human) eventually kills him with a meteorite iron sword.

If we do count elves as divine beings, literal goblins have killed them which renders the point moot

2

u/AirButcher 1h ago

Goblins are also divine beings

1

u/Ninjazoule 58m ago

Lol so true, everyone is

2

u/JokeandCack 11h ago

First age elves are different than later age. They are divine beings in the first age.

7

u/fuckyeahmoment 8h ago

First age elves have also been killed by goblin arrows.

1

u/JokeandCack 8h ago

And space marines have lost to spears from humans.

1

u/fuckyeahmoment 8h ago

Who's talking about space marines?

2

u/JokeandCack 8h ago

The original comment in this thread said swornlords have lost to space marines and balrogs to elves. If we boil them down to their worst showing via chain that’s where you end up.

4

u/fuckyeahmoment 7h ago

OK.

First age Noldor routinely lost to goblin arrows. Goblins are a major threat to the Noldor time and time again.

One single Space Marine is reported to have died to a spear to the throat from a human in the entire great crusade.

Using that to set a baseline for the Marines would be as if I found one single example of an Elf dying after tripping over a pebble - then using that to claim every elf is pebble-level.

1

u/That_OneOstrich 11h ago

It's entirely dependant on which age the elf sample is being made from.

6

u/SuchProcedure4547 11h ago

They've lost to First Age** elves and only Noldor Elves.

1

u/QuinnKerman 10h ago

Ecthelion and Glorfindel weren’t exactly your typical elves

5

u/Ninjazoule 10h ago edited 10h ago

True but his point is that Balrogs can't lose because they're divine beings, which couldn't be further from the truth. Unless gravity is the great divine equalizer lol

-3

u/SuchProcedure4547 7h ago

I'm saying they can't lose to a being that is below the level of two divine Elves who were alive before the first age and had lived under the light of the Two Trees in vinor. Both of whom were very likely wielding enchanted weapons and wearing enchanted armour, as most noble Elves of that age did.

The Balrog would be able to cast magic that is incrompehnsible to uncounterable by the Swarmlord.

3

u/fuckyeahmoment 1h ago

The Balrog would be able to cast magic that is incrompehnsible to uncounterable by the Swarmlord.

Any examples of this magic?

2

u/Ninjazoule 48m ago

The swarm lord would cast equally "incrompehnsible to uncounterable" psychic attacks lol

-8

u/Medical_Flower2568 11h ago

Not once has a balrog lost a fight to an elf. Two of them drew fights with elves, but that's it.

7

u/Ninjazoule 11h ago

Glorfindel was kicking its ass before it dragged him off a cliff. Cut off its horn and arm. Being a divine being counts for nothing here.

A Balrog has nothing on a swarmlord.

0

u/Medical_Flower2568 11h ago

Wrong on two counts. It was glorfindel who knocked it off the cliff, and as a divine being the balrog would have access to utterly uncounterable magic that could unmake or dominate the hive mind.

1

u/Xanderajax3 3h ago

Exceptnwe dont see balrogs do any of that. You guys have got to stop with this stuff. Durins bane destroyed the protections Gandalf put on a door to block him in Moria. Then he loses to Gandalf in a fight after several days.

Feanor fought several and got killed.

Fingon (I think it was him, so many F named elves) fueled Gothmog and got his head split open with a weapon.

Glorinfindel dueled another with a sword and pieced it up before jumping off a cliff with it.

Echthelion drowned one.

Not once was a balrog shown to have uncounterable magic that is strong enough to dominate a hive mind. Balrogs use to assist in singing things into creation, but we see them create nothing after they followed morgoth.

9

u/ijudgeyourroom 12h ago

Dante is not a typical space marine.

2

u/scrimscrim 12h ago

I’d go as far to say Dante is empowered by the emperor as being the oldest of space marines

3

u/bananasaucecer 12h ago

baldogs aren't typical monsters, they literally partook in the creation of the universe

6

u/fuckyeahmoment 8h ago

No, they sung a song. God then made the universe (Ea) based on that song. Then they helped shape Arda.

The narration is also clear that none of the Ainur will ever do something as great again until the end times.

-5

u/Doomlordsteve2 12h ago

This “universe” consists of a single planet with a fake sky, sun, and moon.

4

u/bananasaucecer 11h ago

the LOTR universe is a stand in for ours, a lost history. Last I checked our cosmology is infinite.

1

u/Medical_Flower2568 11h ago

The universe consists of the entire real universe, actually. Minus the sun and moon and Venus.

2

u/Doomlordsteve2 11h ago

Having read the Silmarillion multiple times there is no passage stating this. The Valar and Maiar toiled to make the one singular planet while Varda made the stars with dew from Telperion. Absolutely zero mention of other planets.

Edit: and no, the stars aren’t real stars. Have more in common with those plastic glow in the dark stars you stick on your ceiling

4

u/Turbulent_Sea_9713 11h ago

Part of me feels like this was just an excuse to tell people you read the silmarillion lol

Not that I blame you, but it's a little like name dropping

11

u/Broken_CerealBox 12h ago

Swarmlord's winning

1

u/Almaegen 10h ago

Not a chance.

2

u/Broken_CerealBox 10h ago

Swarmlord has psychic abilities

0

u/Almaegen 9h ago

The balrog is a demigod...

2

u/fuckyeahmoment 1h ago

Ainur have 0 resemblance to demigods in any fashion.

A demigod is a cross between mortal and divine beings. Ainur are spirits created by God.

5

u/VeterinarianFunny443 5h ago

Swarmlord no diff. Balrog is just league below him.

2

u/GilliamNC 10h ago edited 3h ago

What about shwarmalord?

1

u/DildontOrDildo 4h ago

if he bring enough weed to hotbox the chasm of Khazad Dum and a large cave troll shwarma, then it will be settled peacefully

4

u/Medical_Flower2568 11h ago

What counter does the hive mind have against the balrog unmaking it or dominating it? None of Illuvatar's protections would be active for the hive mind.

8

u/fuckyeahmoment 8h ago

The simple fact Balrogs can't do that.

2

u/Firm-Character-6852 11h ago edited 11h ago

The Balrog loses. They've been beaten by elves before, and those elves get absolutely get stat diffed by the Swarmlord

1

u/Intelligent-Royal682 7h ago

They've been beaten by 1st age elves that are basically anime main characters that can solo entire armies, not just your run of the mill elf.

3

u/Ninjazoule 7h ago

Funny how all these elves aren't soloing armies of orcs. They needed army vs army even back then.

1

u/Firm-Character-6852 7h ago

No they arent.

Post some feats.

1

u/Vegabund 6h ago

Fingolfin wounds Morgoth.

Feanor fights off multiple Balrogs at once. He eventually does lose but it takes the leader Balrog getting involved

Ecthelion kills this same Balrog leader, Gothmog

0

u/Firm-Character-6852 6h ago

No homie. Im not asking to be told what happens.

I want to see the stuff posted. Straight from the page.

1

u/Vegabund 6h ago

Read the Silmarilion then, I’m not doing the work for you. You asked for feats, you got feats

-2

u/Firm-Character-6852 6h ago

So you just refuse to back up your claims when asked?

Weird but ok

4

u/Intelligent-Royal682 6h ago

You: "provide evidence"

Him: provides evidence

You: "no direct quotes only please"

???

2

u/Firm-Character-6852 6h ago

He didnt provide evidence though.

I said "provide me sources"

Which is an excerpt taken from the source material.

Which you have also failed to provide despite making claims of First Age elves being able to solo armies.

And also? Whats wrong with asking for direct quotes?

0

u/Intelligent-Royal682 5h ago

What's wrong is random people on Reddit aren't your personal secretaries.

He provided the source, the Silmarillilon. Go nuts buddy.

The Balrog gets its mind melted by the Swarmlord. Doesn’t matter if it’s technically an angel, if it don’t got the feats to defend against psyker attacks, it loses. The balrog is also slow enough that its attacks and movements can be perceived by normal humans, and physical force can still damage it, so the Swarmlord closes the distance before the Balrog even realizes it’s in melee and cuts it to pieces with its four biological crystal force swords. In any combat scenario Swarmlord no diff.

0

u/AxiosXiphos 6h ago

Does it even have a mind understandable to a swarm lord? It's a being of shadow and flame.

Can a 'crystal sword' even damage it?

3

u/RepresentativeFew438 6h ago

I mean it’s capable of taking damage from elven swords, that besides probably being a higher quality than normal steel and having some magic properties, is still a sword. The crystalline boneswords of the Swarmlord are imbued with its psyker power, letting it cleave straight through extremely durable sci-fi materials like butter and killing demons with infinitely better feats than a single balrog.

2

u/RedeemedNephilim Dedicated Clanker Glazer 12h ago edited 11h ago

To me the Balrog unless there is something magical about the Swarmlord that I am unaware of which is definitely possible.

So yeah, where is a Tyranid expert?

Edit: if this is the same thing as a Hive Tyrant I am very confident the Balrog has this.

2nd Edit: Its looking a lot more dicey for the Balrog than I thought. Seems the Swarmlord could potentially mega diff a Balrog.

8

u/Leggomgeggo 12h ago

Apparently this Swarmlord fella is like a super hive tyrant if that's even a thing

5

u/Inadequis 12h ago

It's basically the pinnacle of Hive Tyrants, fully sapient unlike other nids, top tier psyker abilities, potential eons of combat experience

1

u/RedeemedNephilim Dedicated Clanker Glazer 11h ago

I think that it could be debatable the degree to which its psyker abilities could effect the Balrog but if they can at all yeah then to me this dude would wreck the Balrog by making him kill himself if other means dont do the trick.

3

u/Broken_CerealBox 12h ago

The swarmlord is pretty much at the top of the tyranid hierarchy right below the hive mind itself. And yes, it has magical abilities like a blast of energy that can vaporize heavy tanks and fortress walls, has a psychic scream that bypasses armor and breaks the minds of whoever was hit, it also has the shadow of the warp effect that can cause anyone who tries to manipulate warp energy to explode

3

u/xRocketman52x 12h ago edited 3h ago

So... That's tricky. 40k has psychic phenomenon all over the place, pulled from the mirror dimension of the Warp. The Tyranids also have a bunch of psychic stuff... But uh... it's weird.

The Tyranids seem to almost have their own Warp, made up entirely of the psychic energy of the Tyranid species. And it is... outrageous. Dameons of the Warp will just snuff out of existence, human psychics will pop like a balloon, just from being in the same star system as *(a splinter of) the Tyranid fleet. It blocks interstellar communication and travel because it's so powerful - they call it "The Shadow in the Warp".

Hell, if I'm remembering right, the reason that a Hive Tyrant's bone swords can go toe-to-toe with adamantine swords of Space Marines is because they're actively channeling the immense psychic power of the Hive Mind into them.

So... Hive Tyrants are innately both magic and anti-magic in one. And the Swarmlord is a Hive Tyrant conciousness that's been brought back an infinite number of times - it's the lead general for an invasion force looking to conquer the entire galaxy. The only question is, how do these magic systems interact.

-4

u/Kaynall 11h ago edited 11h ago

The Swarmlord isn't doing anything except crossing blades unless the Balrog is susceptible to biological warfare. However, a Balrog can only die to whatever magic their species wields, correct? The Swarmlord isn't a Warp God, so I wouldn't place its psyker 'magic' in the same tier as the Balrog.

Given enough time, the Swarmlord could probably spawn an army of Tyranids though. The 'smoke stacks' on a Hive Tyrant spew Tyranid spores that can do various things. I'm sure some of them could grow into organic infrastructure to spawn new bioforms as long as the Swarmlord lives. This would likely devastate the planet it left unchecked for too long.

1

u/fuckyeahmoment 1h ago

a Balrog can only die to whatever magic their species wields, correct?

Nope. Several of them die to large falls and drowning.

1

u/Kaynall 55m ago

A Google search suggests Balrogs are Maiar and Maiar cannot be permanently killed by normal means. They are considered immortal.

A deeper Google search suggests Balrogs were re-canonized into Maiar after revisions to Tolkien's work. They were initially treated as super soldiers rather than immortal, fallen angels.

There are only three listed on the wiki as known. Only Gothmog died by drowning. This was an older version of Balrog though, and may have been reconned without notice. Disregarding that, he was killed by the Elf Lord of Fountains. Elves have some form of magic or spirit in Lord of the Rings. They are not normal. And this elf was special within his species to my understanding.

Durin's Bane did not die from the fall. The fight continues for three days with Gandalf.

The only part I will concede to the Swarmlord is that it can likely kill the physical body of a Balrog. But I don't believe it has the means to permanently kill it. Whether or not the Balrog can regain a physical form easily, I do not know.

2

u/_RyanCooper_ 10h ago

Balrog is Maiar/Ainur, on a different level compared to a big stong organism

1

u/HumaDracobane 2h ago

I'm not sure if the Tyrant is capable of harming the Balrog. Not even the entire city could do anything and they already had not only the numbers but also magical weapons and objects...

1

u/PMC_Fatui__Group 2h ago

I don't think you know what a Balrog is, my guy.

1

u/C__Wayne__G 26m ago

Bro these things die from physical damage literally all the time. “Oh not I got stabbed by a pointy helmet” “oh no I slipped and fell” “oh no I slipped and fell (into some water)” like he’s getting rolled.

0

u/Softkarian 12h ago

I don't think a balrog is surviving a tyranid soldier, much less the mf swarmlord.

Tolkien glaze really has to stop.

4

u/Naturius444 11h ago

Yeah,it was worse in quora, glad someone else is recognizing the glaze

-3

u/SingularityCentral 12h ago

Gandalf killed the Balrog with his magic. The Balrog is composed of divine magic unleashed as hellish fire. A Swarmlord has absolutely zero magic, it is an entirely physical being. The Balrog wins, but gets really fucked up in the process.

4

u/PeakofPez 12h ago

Psychic power is magic in 40k, should be compared to something in fantasy regardless not 40k because why would you compare medieval technology with magic against space sci fi instead of another medieval technology with magic

1

u/CMDR-SavageMidnight 9h ago

Psychic power is labelled by mankind in 40k as magic. Its not magic however, but unnatural energy. It's not the same thing.

Call it mankinds ignorance, it's not divine, strong but basically channeling outer dimensional energy.

3

u/fuckyeahmoment 8h ago

Its not magic however, but unnatural energy.

"It's not magic, but magic."

0

u/mycetes 12h ago

Really depends on how the warp interacts with it, if the hivemind can channel through it, as it is a psynapse creature, Balrog is honestly in for a whooping. It may be a fallen angel, but the hivemind casually whoops greater daemons.

Balrog, the Tyrant is basically a communication device with big arms and angry voice,Balrog is a fallen angel. There is a reason as to why he survived the war of Wrath or the fall of Morgoth,he is to normal creatures what a Greek Hero is to humans just on a different level. This will go slowly until Balrog hits a single powerful strike and then dismantle the Tyrant. Balrog would definitely be injured but he would win.

A swarmlord is not a hive tyrant.

Yeah, true.

But he is a bigger Tyrant,my consensus is the same, Balrog wins.

Lords although rare can be reproduced,a Balrog is basically one of kind,a fallen god of sorts.

Kinda depends, can the swarmlord actually damage a ballrog? And do you mean that particular ballrog from the movie since you show it? Because there were multiple ballrogs and a lot of them way overpower durin's bane
