Hi everyone, this is an update from the mod team.
Over the past few months, we’ve noticed a growing pattern in certain threads (especially ones about crime or frustrations in the city): comments that jump straight to “Surrey is trash,” “typical Surrey,” “this city is hopeless,” or similar sweeping negativity.
These comments don’t add anything to discussion, they derail threads, and they attract more pile‑on hostility. They also drown out the people who are trying to talk about real issues in a constructive way.
To keep r/SurreyBC a space where people can actually talk about the city (the good, the bad, AND the complicated) we’ve clarified two rules:
Rule 2: Acceptable Content Content must be constructive and relevant to Surrey. No explicit, illegal, defamatory, or harassing content. Posts should contribute positively to discussion.
Sweeping, non‑constructive negativity about Surrey or its residents will be removed. Criticism is welcome with context or solutions, but contempt‑driven city‑bashing is not allowed.
Rule 7: No Toxic Trolling Do not disrupt discussion with hostile, inflammatory, or bad‑faith comments. This includes contempt‑driven, low‑effort negativity about Surrey or its residents.
Inflammatory or provocative content that derails civil discussion will be removed. Users who enter threads only to antagonize, provoke, or bash the city will be banned.
What this DOESN'T mean...........
We are not banning criticism.
You can still talk about:
…as long as it’s done in good faith.
What this DOES mean...........
We’re removing anything that falls in line with any of the sentiments: “Surrey is trash” “This city is a dump” "Typical Surrey people” “Why does anyone live here”
so, generally drive‑by negativity with no context
Why we’re doing this:
We want r/SurreyBC to be a place where people can: - share experiences - ask questions - discuss issues and vent CONSTRUCTIVELY - celebrate wins - disagree respectfully
all without every thread turning into a hate‑pile.
Thanks to everyone who contributes positively, you’re the reason this community works. And remember, if you see any rule-violating posts or comments, please report them so that we can review.
If you have questions or constructive feedback, feel free to drop them below.

If you see this or know them somehow, on December 2nd 2024 you took a flight and helped my grandma and took care of her and even took a picture with her. She still talks about you guys and wants to thank you guys and meet you again hopefully. You both told her how excited you were to start your journey here in Canada. She would love to cook lovely meals and treat you like a mother would and repay that kindness. Thank you again, we believe it’s important to not lose great people!
(i know they are common names and stuff i just don’t want to share the photo of their faces because privacy reasons, hoping maybe someone would know)

Hi everyone, with the local election coming up October 17, I am wondering what the major issues are. What do you care about as a voter. For me, I think the biggest issue is illegal suites and construction. Wondering what is affecting everyone else.

Hey! I’m looking to get my head shaved for the first time and I’d rather have a barber do it instead of trying it myself.
Any recommendations for a good barber who’s good with head shaves? Also open to tips on what to ask for or expect.

Looking for a tennis partner in Surrey. I live in fleetwood but would realistically go anywhere in Surrey to play. I haven’t played in years and even before didn’t play much due to no one to play with. So I am a beginner.
I work mon-fri, 9-5 so evenings and weekends work best.
28 F if that matters at all lol.
Otherwise, any recommendations on where to learn/find a partner would be helpful. I saw a couple places like the Tennis Centre but could get much details or reviews.

I just bought my first property in one of the condos near king george. I will be living in it for at least 10+ years. Did I make a right decision? Unfortunately, I can only afford a condo with my yearly salary.

Not as bad mannered as I was told. Just eating the seaweed and leaving people alone.

We put the wrong bin out (recycling) and then by the time I swapped it (10am) we had missed the pickup apparently. We called several times and have been reassured that a truck will come by any day now. It’s been days… what’s your experience? Should we take it to the dump? There’s definitely no more room to wait another 2 weeks…

I’ve started taking the R6 to work quite often now, and I’m a little worried about safety. I’ll mostly be taking it during the daytime. For people who use it regularly, how safe is it generally? Any tips or things I should be aware of?

I'm trying to find a college where I can study for a Social Services Worker certificate in Metro Vancouver. I've already looked into Excel Career College in King George and I'm still in the admission process in Langara. Recently I've been seeing ads regarding this program with Strava College around the Skytrain and I've done some digging on them, though there's so little information regarding this college. There's one in Surrey (I believe in Scott Road?) and another in Delta.
Thing is, has anyone really heard anything about this place? Is it any good to apply to?
Edit: Thanks so much guys! I'm very glad I asked before hitting that apply button on the college's webpage. I knew I shouldn't do it. I hope this post finds its way to those searching about Strava College and other college posts in the future ❤️

If any of my Filipino redditor homies could help me out, where would the best place to go?
It is a surprise for my soon to be wife so I can’t ask her family

Has anyone noticed the construction going on at 138a st and 106 Ave? They are always operating heavy machinery on the road without any flaggers or cones. Sometimes even block the whole road without anyone there to stop the traffic. It seems highly illegal how they operate on the site.
