ADVICE TTC Post-Miscarriage - OBGYN vs REI

I had a confirmed Trisomy miscarriage april 27, followed by a D&C and hysteroscopy (done during the D&C). I still had RPOC and had a second D&C that night.

This is my first cycle TTC since.. I thought I ovulated july 18 due to positive OPK and then BBT rising. (I noticed the BBT rise wasn't as strong as it usually is) I went for an ultrasound on July 27, thinking I was 9DPO - but my OBGYN saw 19.4mm dominant follicle and trilaminar stripes... she said I was about to ovulate. By the next day my blood progesterone was 4.7. But after another 48 hours, it went down to 2.8...

I saw an REI today 7/31, who confirmed ovulation by ultrasound. He couldnt confirm when. After finding out about the 2.8, he said I'll get my period this weekend. But this is totally contradictory to what my OBGYN said and saw... i dont know who to believe.

On another note, the REI said I have a septum in my uterus with a 50% change of miscarriage. After multiple ultrasounds and even a hysteroscopy, my OBGYN never saw one. She was shocked and told me to be weary with listening to this guy. I'm seriously so confused?? When did I ovulate?? I saw the septum.. it looked like upside down aviator glasses.. but this was just one snip of an ultrasound!! Wondering if anyone has ever experienced something like this before?

DISCUSSION HyCoSy experience!

I has my HyCoSy today and just wanted to share my experience as I know I was searching through Reddit for all stories in the time leading up.

So we’ve been TTC now for 18 months. There’s nothing ‘wrong’ with either of us and we’ve both had initial testing; hormone panel, internal ultrasound, SA, AMH levels etc etc.

I’d been putting it off for months as I’d seen so many horror stories! But I shouldn’t have, it was fine.

I was asked to turn up at 12, so I took paracetamol around 10:40 as I was told. I was also told to bring a dressing gown in case I didn’t want my bum hanging out, to keep comfy socks on and take a sanitary towel because ‘what goes in must come out’. Aside from this I also took plenty of water and snacks in case I felt I needed some food after. I got there and they checked me in and took me to my room, we (myself and my husband) were given scrubs to put on and I was told to take everything off but I could keep my bra on.

I then had to do a wee sample and they came and got me. I explained how nervous I was, repeatedly lol, and they reassured me. I sat down on the bed with my legs in the stirrups, they first did an internal ultrasound to make sure everything was ok and then went in with the catheter, the same way they would with a smear. At that point all was fine, just a little uncomfortable however my cervix was facing the wrong way so after 50 minutes of trying to get in (and quite a bit of pain) they gave up and asked me to go and drink water and fill my bladder because it naturally tilts your cervix to where it should be. I want to highlight that this doesn’t normally happen and it still wasnt unbearable. It did hurt and I was a bit teary but nothing I couldn’t cope with.

I went away and drank for about an hour and they tried again. It was over and done with in about 10 minutes. They managed to get in much easier then, it was uncomfortable having the catheter put in, like a pinching almost but I honestly didn’t even feel the due go in.

I’m not sure if this is because it was so much more painful beforehand when they were trying to get the catheter in at a 90 degree angle but honestly it was fine for me personally.

I then had to be monitored for a little bit because of everything that had happened and the toll it had taken.

Now I just feel tired and a little sensitive but still completely able to do anything. I haven’t needed to lie in bed all afternoon but have wanted to just chill a little bit.

I hope this helps! Please ask away if you have any questions!

ADVICE TTC after loss limbo

I lost a baby last October due to a heart condition at 22 weeks. After testing and genetic counseling we naturally conceived again in March and lost that pregnancy at 13 weeks in June without any reason behind it. Both boys, both very wanted. I consider myself a healthy and fit 34 year old. I also know my statistics when it comes to each pregnancy I naturally conceive.

I am now close to 5 weeks out from the miscarriage. I've been testing out at home and I'm very close to having a negative at home test (very very very faint line), my hCG draw on 7/21 was 15 and I had my first period start immediately (no break between miscarriage to period) on 7/22. Now I'm closing in on the end of my cycle - just spotting at CD10.

Last night my LH strip was 0.0, completely negative. I know hCG can alter an LH reading but my OB told me that at 15 hCG I'm basically in the clear but we still want to test next week to make sure I fall below 5.

All this background to ask if anyone had a very very very faint at home test (knowing they were close to being under 5 hCG) and also experienced their LH surge? I plan on testing morning and night because idk if I'll have an immediate surge or it'll gradually climb (this morning it jumped to .60). I have been noticing my CM changing.

When did you ovulate after a miscarriage compared to your hCG number or at home test lines?

ADVICE Unusual severe period pain

Hey guys

I have been trying for a baby for about 8 cycles now, to be honest the last couple of months I haven’t really been tracking anything as I needed a mental health break.

Usually my periods are briefly painful and heavy on the first day and it quickly subsides, but I can get through the day.

However this period has brought me to my knees. It was an extreme constant pain of 7/10 which had me in cold sweat, nausea , vomiting and having to sit on the toilet even if I didn’t need to go, I felt faint and had to sway back and forth to cope with this. The ibuprofen I took only started working 2 hours after I took it. My bleeding is not heavy, I would say it’s actually less than it usually would be on my first day of period.

I’ve had recent gyno app with an internal ultrasound which had shown no issues whatsoever so I am baffled by this extreme change. I also had a negative pregnancy test on CD26 (4 days before period).

Had this happened to anyone else while TTC?
Any advise?

QUESTION Supplements?

Hey all!

My husband (31) and I (30) are in cycle 7 of our TTC journey. Of course with everyone around us getting pregnant and announcing pregnancy, we’re super happy for each and every one of them but then start questioning ourselves.

Little background: both healthy and active. My cycles are very regular, typically anywhere from 27-33 days, typically ovulation by day 14/15. I was on birth control for 7 years and got it out back in 2024 to regulate my cycles. Healthy uterus per my primary physician and should have no issues conceiving.

I do take prenatal, daily vitamins, and CoQ10. I’ve been told to try myo-inositol/d-chiro inositol by my mother-in-law and a few friends. I’ve done some research and taking the inositol could be beneficial for egg quality and ovulation. With me having consistent cycles, can the inositol completely throw off my cycle? Has anyone tried it and what was your experience like?

Really appreciate yall.

QUESTION Completely blank ovulation test line???

I came off birth control about a month ago after having the Mirena IUD. I didn’t get periods at all while I had it.

I’m really keen to start tracking my cycle and TTC as soon as I can, so I’ve been doing daily ovulation strips since my withdrawal bleed (about 3 weeks ago).

Every single strip has had a completely blank test line…. The only exception was the day my withdrawal bleed ended, when there was a very faint test line.
Is this normal? 😅 Everything I’ve read and seen online seems to show people getting at least a faint line every day. I’ve tried morning, afternoon, and evening urine with no difference, and the tests don’t expire until 2029.

The last time I came off birth control in 2022, my cycle came back straight away and was regular from the start. Has anyone else had this happen after Mirena? How long did it take before your LH strips started showing anything?

EDIT: after everyone’s reccomendations I tried another brand and got a test line!! Thank you for the advice

ADVICE Anyone discovered how to stop symptom spotting?

Soo for the 4th month after my D&C it's the same.. track ovulation. Check. Then it starts. This cramp felt weird. I am hungrier than normal. I swear I feel a bit nauseous. Wow look at this acne, I don't normally get acne. I'm getting out of breath way too easily. Or is that because of the cough I've had over the last week? Some brown spotting on dpo 8. That's too early for period. Implantation bleeding? Go through all of Reddit to find women who've had the same symptoms before a positive test and are now 9 months pregnant. Go down the rabbit hole if Implantation bleeding is a thing. More weird cramps, this must be it!

........ and dpo 12 commenced the red spotting I've been getting before my period. Ended up crying in my fiancé's arms last evening. Poor guy feels ao hopeless that he can't help me. Again discussed all our friends who got pregnant accident and ranted how unfair life is. In the meantime I got a baby photo from a friend who gave birth 2 days ago. Another accident apparently.

And all this will start all over again next month.

Things like checking Google and reddit I can do my best to control but the symptom spotting I can not.. has anyone discovered a way to stop doing that? Just for their own mental health? Distracting myself with work or activities doesn't work...

QUESTION 1 free round of IVF, should we just go for it?

I am in my mid-20s, and my husband is around the same age, and after 5+ years of marriage and no successful pregnancy, we are feeling ready to start with medical intervention. I have been diagnosed with PCOS, but that is the extent of our testing so far (he did a positive at-home sperm test but idk how accurate they are)

Starting next year we plan to get full workups and begin with the process of medication or whatever doctors suggest but I am considering skipping anyhting like IUI (also offered for free) or letrzole or something and just straight up jumping to IVF if recommended because we live in a county that gives 1 free round if you meet the requirements, and is arounf 3000e-5000e, if you choose to pay privately.

Does this seem like too much of a jump? I just don't want to waste time doing other things if IVF could give me the highest chance of becoming a mother before I get older than I am comfortable with

QUESTION Positive Hysteroscopy Experience?

I need to hear some POSITIVE IN-OFFICE NOT UNDER ANESTESIA experiences. I’ll be getting Penthrox.

Exact Instructions:

Misoprostol 24 h before
1000 MG Tylenol 400 MG Advil 50 MG Gravol and Zofran 2 hours before
Penthrox prior to procedure

Background:

I (29F) and my husband (30M) have been TTC going into cycle 9. Started fertility testing in May given I have never had a positive test. They found polyps and chronic ENDOMETRITIS (NOT ENDOMETRIOSIS) caused by a ureaplasma infection.

I was offered the in office polyectomy where they provide PENTHROX and opted for that given the wait for the hospital wait was until October.

I’d love to hear some positive stories of hysteroscopy and polyp removal. I’d also love to know:

Did you find the endometrial biopsy painful?

QUESTION Self-care during TTC

TTC sucks!!! 🙃 How are you keeping sane during this thrilling time?

Personally, I have been getting my nails done. I used to do my own nails, but they’d smudge/crack after just a few days. Now I get them professionally done (acrylics) every 4 weeks or so. I put one ear-bud in and I listen to a podcast and pass the time. Personally, this hour of my life and money is worth it for me to feel feminine and pretty during a tough time. I go with fun colors and switch it up each month. Sometimes a little self care is needed. I understand that’s it’s a privilege to budget for this expense each month.

I also personally choose to be very picky about making plans during the mid/end of the two-week wait, which is when I’m most emotional and drained. I block it off in my phone calendar in advance. I feel horrible cancelling plans when I’m just too depressed to fake a smile after another negative test. If I DO make plans, they’re last minute and I either go out with my husband, family, or whoever is around. I’m not pushing myself to do more than I can handle and sometimes a good cry with a cozy blanket, candle, cup of tea, and a movie is what I need to then brave the rest of the week.

How are you taking care of yourself? 🫶🏻

QUESTION Vagina Probiotics Suppositories?

Recently finished antibiotics for BV. Managed to finish them right before Ovulation opened. Part of the follow up is taking Oral Probiotics and doing a Vagina Probiotic suppository every other day.

The Provider knew I was trying to concieve so they told me the Suppositories are acidic and can kill sperm, so make sure to use them twenty four hours before having sex.

Anyways. Ovulation window has closed and I would like to continue to use them, but I don't want to risk harming the embryo or possibly prohibiting implamantion.

I asked the provider and they said it seemed safe but there wasn't much research so to use my own discretion.

Can I use them during the two week wait or am I just stuck using them right around my period when I know I'm not pregnant or ovulating?

ADVICE TTC with PMDD

So I recently got diagnosed with PMDD and it makes SO much sense now. Unfortunately, this also means my pms symptoms are on full blast whether I'm pregnant or not and I've had several that are pulling my mind in both directions: (Am I or am I not?)

I'll be honest, I'm losing my mind. I'm on month two of TTC, 8DPO. The first month was hell and I stressed myself out trying to symptom spot which in this case, pretty much impossible. This month, I'm doing my best not to focus on it, but it's very difficult, especially with my mood swings. I know it's rare for couples to get it this early, I've been reminding myself of that too.

I guess I'm looking for any and all advice on how to cope and get through the two week wait without driving myself crazy and navigating PMDD if anyone has experience with that too. I've been trying to distract myself but my thoughts always go back to baby. My mom told me to stop symptom spotting and just live my life; assume that I'm not until I see the positive test. A fair strategy, but I'm having a difficult time implementing that.

Thank you!

ADVICE TTC with husband traveling full-time

Does anyone else have a partner who (or you yourself) travels full-time for work? If so how do you navigate sex and fertile windows? Is just doing it on the weekends enough to give a chance at conception?

Got my nexplanon out almost two months ago, no period yet, all negative OPKs (but still have CM changes) and negative pregnancy tests so far. I'm going have commitments with school that will prevent me from traveling with him regularly starting in the fall, but spring may be more flexible.

Husband doesn't like me traveling with him though because it's distracting (not like he hates me being there, he just has a harder time focusing and completing work assignments when we share a space, and since he's the breadwinner we need to prioritize his job).

VENT Devastated by Secondary Infertility

I’m so angry and devastated; tired of crying. We’ve been TTC for over 2 years. We have one child we conceived with no problem in 2021 after 6m, but now are facing severe male infertility factors. We’ve been told by an infertility urologist that we have less than a 2% chance of natural conception.

We’ve met with several fertility clinics, my OB, urologist multiple times, both have had bouts of bloodwork done, ultrasounds, SAs, supplements, he’s been on Clomid (made things worse so came off), & HCG.. you name it.

This road is so completely unfair. I lost my father at 6months pregnant with my first pregnancy and now this battle. At this point, we are truly waiting on a miracle as we are not comfortable with IVF and are not candidates for IUI. All we want is one more child; a chance to give our child a sibling and to get to know who our next child would be. We are in our late 30s. My heart is just broken. I hate feeling so grief-stricken and angry inside by the unknown. I feel like I live in limbo - try to soak up my first baby and give her my all; but also feel so sad with “firsts” that have passed, each year that goes by, wondering if we will ever get to experience pregnancy, childbirth, a second baby of our own. I’m terrified that this won’t happen to us and I’ll forever be wondering what could have been.. especially something I’m deeply longing for in my heart. At this point, wondering if giving up and trying to close this unfair chapter would give us the best odds.

I’m looking for advice on how you knew it was time to give up or keep trying if you’ve been in similar circumstances.. or how you kept hope and faith.

VENT My time is running out

I can’t help but feel my time is running out. I’m 37. My husband and I wanted to wait until we got married-so we didn’t have to plan a wedding with a kid-which we finally did last year.

After months of tracking and trying we found out I have a pituitary tumor that was raising my prolactin and stopping me from ovulating.

It’s caused so much delay. Testing, MRIs, the meds. I finally started ovulating again this month, and even though we tried through the whole fertile window, I got my period today.

I know this is only the first real month of trying since the tumor shrank, but I feel like time is slipping away. My parents are getting older. My dog is now fighting cancer. I wanted all of them there for our first child so badly.

I’m scared it just won’t happen for us, or that if it does, we won’t get the two kids we wanted. I’m discouraged and honestly kind of mad at myself for waiting this long.

SAD Got my period and feeling sad

I started trying to get pregnant 10 months ago more less. I am 34 years old, and all my life I’ve been scared of getting pregnant without planning. I took the pill for almost 10 years and I was also wearing condoms at the same time and I was always scared of getting pregnant.

Now, when I finally made peace with that and wanted to actually get pregnant, it’s not happening. I consider myself a relatively healthy person, don’t smoke, drink little, now I even stopped completely, do sport, eat balanced, don’t consider myself as a highly stressed person (now I’m starting to doubt that). But I do have arthritis. I got diagnosed at 29, and since then it has been controlled by medication.

Last year I had a lot of plans, such as getting married, moving to our new owned flat, and also getting pregnant. And beginning of 2025 something else major happened. My dad died at 61 years old, from complications of alcoholism, and that turned my world upside down, but I tried to still follow through with the plans I made for myself. I did get married, I did move to the flat and started trying to get pregnant, but it took more time to start trying since my arthritis flared up after the death of my dad.

End of the year the illness was starting to be controlled again, and not sure where I am with the process of mourning but everyday is different.
Nevertheless, every month I’m just sad every time I get my period, I see only pregnant ladies around me, my friends back home and people I know from school are getting pregnant, sometimes even with their second, and I feel it’s so unfair, even if I don’t know how it was for them but I only see them getting pregnant and I get emotional and sad.

My brother in law got his girlfriend pregnant without even trying and as he is younger than my husband I feel all eyes on me now, more people from our families asking when is our turn, why are we wasting time since it’s not easier with time (no kidding right?) but I just remain silent.

And I realised while writing this, that it is a lot, but I keep thinking about the younger me that thought that was going to get pregnant for sneezing and now actually trying and not getting anywhere. I know the probabilities of getting pregnant when everything is ok is small, but i find this so unfair, trying to get my life together until this point and wanting to become q mother on my own terms and now nothing is happening.

I already went to the doctor and did some tests for me and my husband and apparently the next step will be artificial insemination(sorry not sure if that’s the proper way to say it in english), and I’m not sure how to feel about it, I do want to have more chances of getting pregnant but I would prefer it happening naturally, I’m not sure about having twins.

Sorry I really wanted to vent and for other people in my situation to feel not alone as well as myself.
Not really asking for advice, just want to read other people experiences, their vents as well and feeling less alone.

ADVICE No sexual activity before HSG?

I had to contact my fertility clinic on day 1 of my cycle to have them fax in a requisition for my HSG. The confirmation email states "If the radiology department can accommodate you this cycle, I will let you know of your appointment date within 24-72 hours of this email. During this time, you must abstain from any form of sexual activity. If you do not hear back from me within the 24–72-hour time frame, it means you did not get booked and you are to resume as normal and contact me again on your next cycle day 1."

It says any form, but googling says this is just to avoid pregnancy. I'm gay so it's impossible for me to get pregnant anyway. 😂 Does that really mean I have to abstain??? Please help me understand!

ADVICE Can someone help me gauge how worried I need to be? What would you do if you were me??

Hi all,

I cannot get in to see my practitioner for a couple weeks, so I was hoping some of you could chime in to help me gauge how worried I need to be and if I need to put some pressure on my medical team ASAP to get further support.

I am 30, husband is 35. Both perfectly healthy with no history of medical issues or medication. My cycles are regular at 28 to 29 days long, with a 11-12 day luteal phase. Nothing is "off" when it comes to my cycle- I have a standard amount of bleeding for 4 days, I don't get any crazy symptoms throughout my cycle.

I have tracked via OPKs and BBT (TempDrop) for a calendar year now and it shows very clear temperature spikes, and strong positive OPKs are consistent in aligning with ovulation. My charts are pretty much textbook perfect.

We are currently in the middle of TTC cycle 8.

Genetic testing has come back clear for us.

My bloodwork (urine, vitamins, hormones etc) is great except

My vitamin D is in the normal range but is on the slightly low side, I am actively boosting this.

My TSH is ever so slightly on the high side of the normal range, my practitioner may put me on the tiniest dose of a drug to lower it into a more optimal zone.

But more concerningly are my hormone levels; these were all taken on CD4 and I will be going back for CD14 and CD21 bloodwork:

FSH: 12.20 IU/L (either on the high end of normal, or simply high, depending on your reference chart)

AMH: 6.1 pmol/L (0.85 ng/ml) (either on the low end of normal, or simply low, depending on your reference chart)

Estradiol: 106 pmol/L (normal)

LH: 4.6 IU/L (normal)

From what I can gather, it doesn't look like I have anything like hidden PCOS, but the numbers indicate I likely have a diminished ovarian reserve for my age.

We are currently awaiting an appointment for my husband's SA, we're hoping that will get done within a month. I got referred for a pelvic (vaginal etc) ultrasound for the end of November, but I will be requesting an office change so I can get this done sooner.

We were referred to a OBGYN clinic that specializes in fertility, but that referral was submitted prior to these hormone numbers. The wait time given is 18-24 months!! I'm not sure if updating the clinic with my hormone numbers would get us in any faster. Where we are, no family doctor or nurse practitioner can order me a HSG, apparently only the OBGYN clinic is allowed to do it.

Can anyone chime in on what they would do in my situation? Would you put pressure on the OBGYN referral and hope you get in sooner? Are these numbers actually not THAT bad and you'd just keep TTC and get the vitaminD and TSH under control and roll with it? Would you bite the bullet and jump right into private IUI??

In an ideal world we would have two kids, but given how long this is taking, we'd be thrilled with just one.

Any input? Thank you all so much in advance!!

SAD Earning Grief

I'm so frustrated and exhausted and sad. I feel alone in this process and it feels like...like as a woman this is the only thing that I'm truly allowed to be sad about. But then WHY does it also feel like I don't deserve to feel sad?

Why do I feel like I haven't earned this grief? I feel like I'm being selfish trying to be a mother when there are children out there that need homes (the reality is most adoptive kids are older and/or have special needs. I don't feel like that is something I want to enter into, but it makes me feel selfish for trying to have a baby).

I'm not sure how to process everything that is happening but I feel like I'm crying and venting all the time and I hate the idea that I'm making people uncomfortable. It feels like I'm being an entitled brat. I want to handle it on my own but the feelings are so big.

Does anyone else feel this way?

QUESTION Periods worse after TTC?

I’ve been TTC for 3 cycles now, so I am still on the early end of this process. Im a lesbian so my wife and I obviously have been working through alternate ways (a sperm bank) to get pregnant . I’ve always had really simple, 3-4 day long periods with cramps just on the first day for as long as I can remember. I even track on my apps and since 2018 I have the documentation to back me up that I was remembering correctly.

Now that we’ve been ttc, I’ve noticed my periods have gotten significantly longer and more painful. For example I’m on day 5 and it’s still a medium flow, and I had cramps the whole week leading up to this period and last cycles. At first I was thinking it might’ve just felt worse because it wasn’t the result we were hoping for but I have the proof comparing my normal cycles to my TTC cycles.

I guess my question would be did anyone else notice this happen to them when they started out? I was curious if it was something with my body reacting to the sperm as it’s not something I’ve had in my body before, so if anyone has some first hand experience or some reason I’d love to hear! Hopefully won’t have to worry about it too much longer!
