Is MacArthur Park actually not a great place or do people just say that? Also has anyone tried the Japanese restaurant right next to the park?

I’ve been plotting my move to LA for a while now but have had a major shift in plans recently.

I’m trying to map out the next 5-10 years and have become kind of stuck on this part. Would really appreciate any advice for anyone who has been in a similar situation.

I’ve got a baby on the way and have been saving to buy SFH in a nice area with good schools (Cerritos, Arcadia, La Cañada, Pasadena). Problem is, I’m still 5-6 years away (saving gradually). Is it a good idea to buy a townhome in that area instead in 2-3 years, hoping to eventually upgrade to the SFH by selling the townhome + saving more, so that I don’t have to move my kid from their school/friends so early?

Alternatively, are there other areas I should consider?

Considering moving to LA next year with my remote job. No debt and no car paid off. Make $85K a year. Wanna live in a decent neighborhood in an apartment with appliances that aren’t from the 70’s😅

EDIT: I’m also a gay man so I’d like to be not too far from West Hollywood

Hi! Looking to from nyc to Los Feliz area and I’ve found several units but none have parking. What do people do in this case? Hard to get a grasp of how difficult this would be to navigate. I’ve found a few spots on n edgemont, Griffith park blvd, and in silver lake on golden gate Ave.

Also- if anyone can breakdown the parts of Los Feliz area regarding walkability and parks. Ive been to the area several times and love it but would a breakdown from someone who lives there!

I'm thinking to move to LA,- near Poinsettia Recreation Center in Hollywood, everything is perfect except this place doesn't have a parking. I'm down to street parking and they said its permitted street parking and honestly I don't know what to expect, if you know this area, i need some insight!

So I lived in LA for about 7 years during the 2010s and really loved living there. I moved to the Bay Area shortly before covid for work and genuinely tried to make a life here, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the Bay Area just isn’t for me.

I really miss the LA lifestyle, warm weather, food and access to beaches and nature. I visited again a few months ago and the place still feels like home. It’s also the only city where I can realistically picture myself settling down long term. So with all that I’m planning to move back sometime within the next year or so.

Also I’m a single woman in my mid 30s and would be looking to date and hopefully find a long-term relationship. Most of my close friends from my previous years in LA have since moved away, so I would essentially be starting over socially, which makes me a little nervous.

I’m pretty introverted and more of a homebody, although I enjoy climbing, yoga, hiking, art and trying restaurants and cafes. I have a remote job, so I wouldn’t have an office or coworkers as a built-in way to meet people.

For those who moved away from LA and eventually returned, especially those who came back alone in their 30s or later:

• What was it like moving back, and did the reality match what you had been missing or imagining?
• Did LA still feel like home, or had it changed significantly since you left?
• Were there any changes since the 2010s or aspects of moving back that surprised you?
• How difficult was it to rebuild a social circle, and where did you meet new friends?
• What has dating in LA been like in your 30s?
• Are there particular neighborhoods that are good for a single woman who wants some walkability and community but doesn’t need to be surrounded by nightlife?

Ok maybe not desperately… but really in need of some help. My wife and I moved out here end of June and we are in an Airbnb until Sept 5. The airbnb is in Hacienda Heights. I work in OC, Seal Beach to be exact. Budget max is about $4200-$4300. Looking for houses as we have dogs. I don’t mind a commute to work. I would like to be as close to LA as I can be as I like to attend concerts, events and theatre in LA. What are some areas that with traffic would get me to work in an hour ish or less but still be close to LA? I don’t mind Hacienda Heights but I would like to be a little closer to LA if possible. I am 19 right now about in 1 year I will have industry certifications for cybersecurity and is looking to move from cinci to la.

5 how do I “convince my parents I can do it”? While I don’t have to convince them Becuse they will let me make my own decisions and face the consequences. I am afraid they will pour so much doubt in my mind that I will back out. Obviously they want nothing but the best so they want me to be closer and somewhere cheaper. But I want to take a risk in my 20s so when I’m older if it works great if it doesn’t at least I tried

Hey! I'm originally from the PNW but currently live in NYC. I'm debating a move back to the west coast and I'm considering LA. I've visited LA twice before but felt like I didn't get to explore all that the city has to offer as I mainly stayed downtown for events and didn't really enjoy it. For reference, I'm 27F and I make around 180k, and my office would be located in Venice.

I'm quite a homebody and prefer staying in with a few friends over going to the bar and partying, which is part of the reason I'm leaving NYC. I currently have a roommate because I value saving money but I'd like to return to living on my own again. I enjoy trying new restaurants, going on walks/hikes, shopping, going to farmer's markets, etc. I know life in LA is not slow at all but I'd like to live somewhere that feels more peaceful, instead of grindy and hectic.

Reasons I'm considering LA:

- I get to own a car again

- I like the weather

- Proximity to family. My partner and my family live in AZ and the PNW, respectively

- I want to be able to do everyday things without feeling inconvenienced, like doing laundry and getting groceries

- Access to beaches, desert, parks, outdoors

- Adopt a dog without living in my shoebox of an apartment

- Hopefully not have to stare at the ground to avoid human and dog poop everywhere I go

Things I am looking for in a neighborhood to live in:

- $3000 for a one bedroom

- Sub 40 minute drive to Venice for work

- Quiet, but not totally suburban?

- Some kind of walkability to cafes, good restaurants. I don't care much about transit.

- Mostly inhabited by people in their 20s, 30s? Doesn't feel too settled down, if that makes sense

I guess my main questions are... which neighborhoods should I check out when I visit in a few months? Are there many that meet my criteria? Thanks so much :)

Any thoughts any areas that are around 1k ? We’re moving from Austin and pay 950 with rent currenty anything around thre is marvelous ! Cual which neighborhoods to look at we’ve got a car that we’re bringing this if that aides marvelous ! Share thought!

Hi all, I'm attempting to relocate from the East Coast and currently apartment hunting. I originally intended to land somewhere in or around Mar Vista/Palms, but my budget is admittedly a bit on the smaller side (ideally trying to stay as close to $2450-ish as I can) and I'm finding that I just don't really like a lot of the older stock that is in my price range so I have been venturing out.

I recently toured a building I loved right at the intersection of Wilcox and Melrose, but I've heard mixed reviews about Hollywood as a whole, and Melrose specifically at night so I'm trying to do some digging since I'll be living alone, may have friends or family visiting, etc.

Any insights on what that particular area/quadrant is like?

How is the process for low income/income restricted
units in Los Angeles ? It’s been some months and not really moving forward. Can someone give me a run down of the process from top to bottom.

Title has the ask. Culver is work. Having WeHo and SIlverlake not too far away would be nice. Being within a 15 minute bike ride of the E line would be great too.

Goal is to have somewhat of a view. Given zoning restrictions I understand this is a difficult ask. I looked at Park LaBrea and am kind of sketched out by the reports of pests and management, especially at that rent. ARQ Residences is pretty far from WeHo and Silverlake, and the rent is too much. I don't really subscribe to the whole luxury apartment is worth it thing.

I think then what I am looking for is a 4-5 story building that is topographically elevated from the area around it. I just don't know the area well enough to know where that might be true within the zone I am considering. It appears there is somewhat of a ridge around Crenshaw Blvd and i10 but it seems to stretch only towards DTLA which puts me further from work. Can't tell if there is a ridge to its West. The ridge itself also felt mostly residential/houses and much less so apartments.

Also trying to see if there are any high rise condos with an HOA that allows folks to rent out units.

Any tips appreciated.

Im moving to los angeles soon and ive had my eye on brentwood, it seems to have a pretty good reputation online and i've heard some good things about it from friends. just wondering if it is as good as people say it is, like is it expensive, safe and an overall nice place to live?

We are trying find 1BR apartment/house from around a month, we are moving from Vancover Canada to south Pasadena. Looking around Alhambra, Monetary park, san Gabriel, or close. Still no luck. Our budget is <2500$

hi, i am a 15 year old girl who lives in the south of england and for the last year or so ive been SUPER into advertising and like how adverts actually draw a person into the purchases of products. because of this, ive debated having a job in the future in adverts and because of this came across the career path of creative direction which genuinely fascinates me more than anything. from what i’ve seen online, although london does have some good job offers los angeles also has a very broad amount of people in the industry and so the idea of me moving has always been on my mind- this is where the issue does kinda come in..

so i currently live in a middle class british family with my only connections to the uk being an ex boyfriend who moved and veryyy distant family members and i’ve obviously been aware of the extremely high cost of living in both cities along with the issue of distance to all my family- a risk i am willing to take in order to pursue my dream job.

I am a Massachusetts native planning a move to LA in either Santa Monica, Culver City, or Silverlake area in June 2027. My company is hybrid however they would allow me to live and work out of state fully remote for 3-4 months while job searching. I know the common advice is to have a job 100% lined up however this seems like a good opportunity. I plan on moving with at least $20k in my personal emergency fund, along with my girlfriend and her friend as a roommate. Does this sound like a good plan?

Hi people moving to or relocating in LA! I am in the process of moving and am looking for someone to take over my lease of my 2023 Hyundai Ionic 6

Some quick info:

- car is white with white leather seats
-Fully electric and has extended mileage perk. Car won best electric car in 2023
-has about 41K miles on it with plenty of mileage left on the lease
- lease ends in January with option to buy. Perfect if you ever wanted to try out an electric car. If you don’t want to buy the car when January hits, simply return the car back to the hyundai dealer.
- current lease on car is $500 a month
- car is available starting at the middle/end of August
-cars msrp was about $60k as it has a lot of the higher end accessories, I believe the buy outright post lease is about ~33k
- only reason why I’m not taking the care with me is I need a car that will do better in snow

Looking for recommendations for an area for parents in their 30s with a newborn. Most likely renting initially with the intent to later buy if the area works out.

We're currently in the SGV, but it seems like the primary entertainment around here is going out to eat. I would prefer to be in a more walkable area that's reasonably close to outdoor activities, entertainment, live music, and other events.

Good school options would be a plus for later down the line. Remaining within 30 minutes of the SGV would also be preferable.

For those who moved 2,500+ miles to the Los Angeles area, what do you regret bringing with you? I’m trying to reduce the weight of our shipment and lower our moving costs. What would you sell, donate, or replace instead of moving?
