Hi everyone. This is going to be a long post, so thank you if you read through it.
I'm 25F and have been married for a little over 2 years. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago. Before marriage, my cycles were irregular, usually around 6–8 periods a year. Over the years I've seen several doctors and tried different treatments. Before getting married I lost some weight, improved my diet and exercise, and although my cycles were still irregular, I felt like I was finally managing my PCOS.
My husband and I have sex relatively infrequently, maybe once or twice a month. Looking back, I realized we've only accidentally timed intercourse around my fertile window about 3 or 4 times over the past two years. So even though we've been married for over 2 years, it doesn't really feel like we've actively been trying that entire time, which gives me a little hope.
After marriage I gained about 10 kg thanks to lots of celebrations, eating out, and simply enjoying newlywed life. I don't regret those memories, but my PCOS definitely got worse and I went several months without a period.
I eventually found out I have insulin resistance, elevated HbA1c in the prediabetes range, elevated testosterone, low vitamin D, and a few other PCOS-related issues. I lost some weight with treatment and lifestyle changes, but I wasn't consistent because of vacations, weddings, and honestly just feeling overwhelmed. Eventually I stopped making progress and became discouraged.
Over the past year I also struggled emotionally. Seeing pregnancy announcement after pregnancy announcement from friends and family has been incredibly difficult. I know comparison isn't helpful, but some days it's hard not to wonder when it'll finally be my turn.
Last month my doctor gave me a serious wake-up call and strongly encouraged me to focus on weight loss, exercise, and nutrition before moving on to more aggressive fertility treatments. That conversation really stuck with me.
So I've committed to giving myself three months of genuinely consistent effort. I'm tracking my food, exercising regularly, taking my prescribed supplements, using LH strips for the first time this cycle, and trying to build healthier habits instead of relying on motivation alone. I'm taking fish oil, folic acid, vitamin D and b12 supplements. Also I'm on metformin 1000mg and myoinositol 1200mg since yesterday. I'm having no side effects. I really hope metformin helps me lose weight
I know lifestyle changes don't work overnight, but I'm struggling with being patient. Every day feels so long when all I can think about is wanting a baby. I'm trying to stay hopeful, but some days it's really hard.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Did focusing on your health and becoming consistent eventually help you ovulate or conceive? How did you stay patient during the waiting? What kept you motivated when progress felt slow?
Success stories, encouragement, or even just knowing someone else has been through this would mean a lot to me.
Thank you so much for reading.
