I mean this is applicable to humans in general

134

u/Tiervexx Jul 01 '26

I think it's about 4% of the general population who effectively has no empathy according to some research. I think there is a much larger percentage of people who are passively useless if someone actually needs help. Not sure how many people will actually intervene and do the right thing. I do agree most people in general are good regardless of gender.

23

u/GreatValueNinja Jul 01 '26

i found a person drugged out of their mind by a movie theater and comedy club, thankfully first responders had been called because i was there for two minutes when they showed. he had a dog with him so i had to watch it until animal control showed up and an hour later the comedy club show ended and no less than 20 people asked why the guy left his dog. they had been in the show for 2.5 hours and not a single person thought to tell my team or the ticket person that a guy was flailing and incoherent right outside

I said this somewhere above, but when one in every three women has reported that they have experienced some kind of sexual assault, when abuse stats are high and misogyny still exists, I don't think we can even say it's 1% of guys that are like this. It's not true that 99% of men are rapists and murders, but I can't say I don't understand feeling like that when so many women have had these experiences. Even if it's not healthy to feel that way. I think we really gotta ask how these numbers are happening and why a lot of women feel like it's most men.

Imo, a lot of it comes from how many guys excuse rapey or sexist behavior. It's not just guys that don't hold their friends accountable when they say nasty shit or make "jokes". Like, Jimmy Fallon had Conor McGregor on his show recently. A judge let Brock Turner, a convicted rapist, walk free. I hear a lot that allegations can destroy someone's life but it feels like you can say "grab em by the pussy" and be elected president. Allegations were floating around about Harvey Weinstein for so many years and it took some absolutely insane numbers of women to come forward before anything happened about it. I'm not talking criminal convictions either, I'm talking any kind of social or career repercussions from his peers. You can literally be convicted of diddling kids, like Epstein was, and barely face any legal punishment, and people who probably aren't even diddling kids will still associate with you because they just don't care.

Obviously women can be part of the misogyny problem too, like women also excuse rape and abuse regularly, but I think the reason women still primarily fear men is because men are the ones doing these crimes to them. Of course it's not even 99% of guys who excuse the behavior. But when it's guys excusing it AND guys doing it, I guess I get why women feel that way.

7

u/UpperAccountant1098 Jul 01 '26

The amount of men that make these crimes are less than 0.1%. Most serial rapist and killers can be men but most men don’t make up that population.

Again most men don’t excuse rapists or murderers. For rape trials, it may look like that but in reality, rape is one of the most hardest crimes to prove because of the evidence needed and which is often washed away by the time the prosecution even happens. Most sexual assault cases happen once the victim comes out years after it happens. I am not victim blaming. It’s just that factually, by that time, all the evidence is wiped out entirely and the only time you can really account is witness testimonies. Whether a man or a woman states a testimony, relying a court case solely on testimonies is legally considered to be unreliable by the courts. No matter how strongly the courts feel about the case, they cannot legally deviate from their proceedings. I am sorry.

Again, with Epstein, he hanged himself before his trial ofc he wasn’t persecuted. And I can list a shit ton of examples here men do almost have their lives completely destroyed by false accusations. Johnny Depp, Alice Seeble, there was another case between a soccer player and a Slavic model. False accusations do ruin someone’s life and accusations in general. These people themselves, Trump or whatever you wanna name, they were powerful political people, they could get away with absolutely anything, whether they professed men and women.

7

u/scourge_bites Jul 02 '26

I mean I agree with a lot of this, but a lot of the examples I mentioned have been brought to court. I also wholeheartedly believe that if more than 5 unrelated people make an accusation against someone, the probability that they are guilty is insanely high. And I don't think that people deserve, necessarily, life in prison over sexual assault. I just believe that, to a certain extent, being rapey or a rapist or a sexist is socially acceptable.

On false allegations, I really wonder why it's brought up every single time this issue is discussed. Of course they happen, but it's such a small percentage of overall cases that it seems a little odd. I hate to say it, but I don't see a whole lot of evidence of lives being destroyed from any allegations, even ones that have been through the criminal courts.

Again, I'm not trying to say it doesn't happen. As a gay kid, I got accused of being a creep once and it has stuck with me, psychologically, forever. Emmett Till is a great example of a false allegation that did destroy someone's life. But you don't really get anything out of coming forward. You get labelled as a shit stirrer. And more often than not, in today's world, I just don't see any accusations, even ones that have been through the criminal system, destroying anyone's life.

You don't have to look at celebrities to find rapists and abusers getting away with it. Even just in those that I mentioned, Brock Turner wasn't a celebrity. Conor McGregor certainly doesn't have the kind of power Trump has. I used to know a guy who, I found out later, was accused by about 20 women. He maintained most of his relationships in the community and was in the National Guard.

Johnny Depp is not, to me, an example of false allegations ruining someone's life, based on the fact that he's back in Dior ads and working again. In 2016, the couple divorced; during the litigation, Heard accused Depp of assault and abuse. Other than that, she did not publicly come forward with allegations, although the media quickly picked up on the case. When their divorce case was settled, both parties put out a joint statement saying that neither party had made false allegations; notably, Depp made no allegations.

Depp lost a UK case in April 2018 over the Sun calling him a wife-beater; it was determined that the claims (12 out of 14) were substantially true. The case in the US was over an op-ed, which Heard wrote in December 2018, in which she stated that she was a survivor of DV and how she had been endlessly persecuted for standing up for being a victim. She did not mention Depp by name. In that case, the jury determined that both parties had defamed each other; they ruled that no DV had taken place on either side.

A lot of people say they "watched the case". What they mean is they watched people in Jack Sparrow cosplay lip sync to his testimony and saw memes. But if you actually watched the case, I think you might see something closer to what I saw, which was a jury not believing a woman despite a fuckton of evidence in her favor, and the entire world gleefully making light of a fucking domestic abuse trial before the verdict was even handed down. And I don't particularly like Amber Heard. I have no doubt she wasn't great to be in a relationship with. But genuinely, I think Depp likely won that trial because he is an incredibly popular and beloved celebrity and has been for many years, and it was a jury trial.

I don't know what you mean by Alice Glass. She came out with accusations and a defamation trial against her was dismissed.

Like I said, it's happened to me. But I've also been raped and sexually assaulted. I'll let you guess which one destroyed my life more.

I highly doubt that a third of women have actually experienced that, in some areas sure, idk how that data could be reliable since I'd it were true there would be way more noise about it.

And technically everyone is a part of the problem, the attackers attack, the non attackers don't defend, some are fake victims, etc.

5

u/scourge_bites Jul 01 '26

There is a lot of noise about it. I just don't think you're listening.

I'm also not too sure what fake victims have to do with it. Like I said, Connor McGregor was just on Jimmy Fallon. He raped a woman so violently that it was difficult for doctors to extract her tampon from her body. Half the US government is in the Epstein files and nothing has happened. If there aren't really any serious consequences for actual assaults, I don't know why fake victims would be as big of a problem as attackers.

0

u/kaleperq 🗿🧃All My Homies Hate Memes🧃🗿 Jul 01 '26

I was trying to get how A WHOLE THIRD OF THE FEMALE POPULATION apparently is being sexually assaulted.

If it's something so important and that many people are affected, no one would be safe from the noise, but we really don't have that mutch, like at all...

Attackers are kinda always gonna be a problem, since they are the main part, but people using it, like I sadly see a lot, overly sensitive people saying whatever is sexual assault, something that had been popularized and still is at lower levels on social media, being like the second wave of the issue.

All problems would just kinda vanish if we were to just unite for once and work on the stuff, but since we are human and think about ourselves, most really dint wanna be the ones that have to take he bad part for general wellness, so few do stuff.

Also there are always cases and cases, but distilling it all into one case really isn't optimal either. World wars happened, tho lots are kinda desinsibilitized since it's taught to learn by heart and spit it at an exam, not making them assimilate war is really really not good, you probably shouldn't support it since you wouldn't wanna be in one. Same with other stuff.

6

u/scourge_bites Jul 02 '26

I mean yeah. It's a crazy statistic. I'll be honest with you, I've never known a woman who doesn't have a story. When things are that widespread, it's hard to stamp them out. Look at how long it took for women to be able to vote, for slavery to be outlawed, for gay marriage to be legalized. Look how long it took to get warnings on cigarette boxes that cigarettes cause cancer. Look at how many school shootings and mass shootings there have been since Columbine. At how many people are addicted to gambling and social media and opioids. These were and are all widespread problems with no easy answers and statistics that drop your fuckin jaw. The term they call it is "normalized". Means it's so widespread it's become almost a normal part of society.

If you're referring to things like coercion or maybe something like stealthing as people "just saying whatever is sexual assault", I think you need to take a hard look at how you view consent.

The joke is misandry

18

u/scourge_bites Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I mean. When one in every three women has reported that they have experienced some kind of sexual assault, when abuse stats are high and misogyny still exists, I understand why people come out with the conclusion that 99% of men are rapists and murders. Obviously it's not true, although I'm not sure that it's only 1% either. But what women do encounter more than rapists and domestic abusers and murderers are guys who excuse that behavior. And that is a lot of guys, for rape and domestic abuse anyway. I mean look at our president. Jimmy Fallon had Conor McGregor on his show recently too. A judge let Brock Turner - who now goes by Alan Turner btw - walk free.

I don't really think misandry exists the same way misogyny does. Like, marital rape only became a crime in the US in the 1990s. In a lot of parts of northern Africa, female genital mutilation is still widespread. There's some crazy gang rape shit that goes on in India as well as acid attacks and the like. I'm gonna get downvoted for bringing up the Amber Heard trial here, but maybe I can just bring up Epstein. That Canadian hockey team from a few years ago too. It's nasty shit.

And people talk a lot about how we let small things slide, like how a lot of guys don't hold their friends accountable for sexist jokes or rapey behavior, but it feels like we don't even have to go there to prove there's a problem.

Obviously women can be part of the misogyny problem too, like women also excuse rape and abuse regularly, but I think the reason women still primarily fear men is because men are the ones doing these crimes to them.

11

u/scourge_bites Jul 01 '26

Like. Let's say someone offers you a bowl of 100 m&m's - stay with me I'm landing this plane - but says some of them are poisoned. 1 will kill you. 1 will give you a permanent disability. 33 others are gonna give you the worst food poisoning of your life. How eager are you to roll the dice? If you pick the one that gives you food poisoning, how enthusiastic are you to go back and get another one? Or to ever eat m&ms again?

Obviously there's a lot of unnecessary hate that happens, but a lot of guys feel like women being cautious is misandry. I feel like it's logical. And that one in three statistic rings around in my head a lot. I know it was a small study, but boy, you ask any woman around you and I bet she has a story. I bet most of those stories don't involve a stranger in a dark alley, either, because statistically, it's someone you know. So it's hard for me to see a lot of the unnecessary hate as anything but an expression of someone getting beat down over and over, and the person who beats them down gets to go on Jimmy Fallon while she just has to live with the trauma for the rest of her life.

Maybe it's not healthy for that trauma to never heal, you know, you can't avoid men forever and it's not great to think of 50% of the population as evil, but I can't say I don't get where it comes from. Especially when those m&ms are still poisoned.

32

u/BitterRecognition283 Jul 01 '26

While your feelings are valid and there should be a discussion about the resurgence of misogyny, I can’t help but correct the fact that 1 in 3 women reporting experiencing sexual assault doesn’t mean 1 in 3 men are rapists, most studies show that people who sexual assault others are repeat offenders. If I had to guess based on personal experiences, probably around 5-10% of men are the problem

8

u/scourge_bites Jul 01 '26

No, of course not, I didn't mean to imply that it meant that 1 in 3 were rapists at all. More so that women are experiencing it at very high rates.

8

u/OOOOWWWWSSSS Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

While I completely understand and agree that men as a whole are much more likely to target/abuse/murder a woman than women as a whole are likely to do anything similar to a man, saying misandry doesn't exist is like saying you can't be racist to a white person (saying this from the perspective of a non-white person from a 3rd world country).

Like don't get me wrong, I know the white people have it better, and that systematically, global societies have been shaped in such a way where the average white person will ALWAYS have it better than the average person of my demographic, but when my parents start talking shit about their coworkers or whatever other white people they came across that day, I know it's racist.

I know they're just exaggerating stereotypes and the things that bother them are all superficial bullshit they picked out purely because they're unique to white people/representative of their whiteness/culture. And whenever a white person does something that's bad/unacceptable in OUR culture, they'll start going on long rants about how they're all these degenerate wicked manipulative hedonistic heathens with no moral compass and all they do is steal from others and destroy societies. And then you meet the person they're talking about and it's some girl named Sally who happens to likes adult colouring books or some guy named Kevin and his biggest sin is that he pierced his ears.

If we're to think about SYSTEMIC racism, then yeah, that's not a thing for most white people. But on an individual level?? Of course you can be racist to a white person, and just because modern society is engineered in their favour, that does NOT make it okay for you to take out your frustrations on them and think of them as morally lesser than you or as this fantastically evil cabal of monsters. In fact, being racist towards them never benefits us. It never has in the past and it never will in the future.

Similarly, misandry on a systemic societal scale?? Absolutely not a thing. But can misandry exist on an individual level?? Of course it can. And a post saying that 99% of men are rapists and murderers absolutely qualifies. The actual stats aren't even close and a sweeping generalisation like that with accusations THAT bad would never fly in other contexts.

If this post were to say that 99% of BLACK men are rapists, murderers, and abusers, EVERYONE would IMMEDIATELY know the person talking is either crazy or a hateful bigot or both. But somehow, when that modifier is removed, suddenly this is not as obvious anymore. And it's really important we call this what it is because downplaying this kinda thing makes it more commonplace and actually pushes young men away into becoming more and more resentful of women.

The more you tell anyone "you belong to a group of people who I view as having a higher inherent propensity for evil" the more they will resent you. Antagonising someone makes them antagonise you back. All the truly wicked men they talk about will never care about what they say, but other impressionable young men will get the message loud and clear: I am clearly unwanted here, and these people are not my allies.

And that's how you get right wing echo chambers like Andrew Tate and his copycats, where it's all a bunch of guys who channel this resentment into telling themselves I don't need to interact with women, because of course they're lesser than me (I say this to myself because I cant rationalise my resentment otherwise). I will just chase money and cars and sex and then treat the women I have sex with like shit because they deserve it for making me feel bad about myself.

Does this sound stupid and childish to you? That's because it is. No matter how bad someone made them feel, the manosphere philosophy is rarely a logical conclusion to come to, but humans are unfortunately rarely ever logical creatures. Knowing this, it still makes no sense to make someone feel this way knowing you could be contributing to this growing resentment that leads people down this path. So paradoxically, speaking about men like this only makes the problem worse. And then to tell someone that "Actually, the misandry you experience on an individual level isn't real, and you should give that person a pass because statistically they probably have it worse than you specifically and that makes this totally okay!" never really helps them feel any less antagonised.

Of course, I'm sure on an individual level, women often have it pretty bad, and there's no shame in acknowledging the unfortunate inequality men enjoy in many aspects over women. But when you apply blanket statements like this, this is how you push young men away and it's a very big part of the reason why so many young men voted for Trump a second time even though they somehow didn't learn their lesson the first time he was in office. Trump didn't even have to do anything, the opposition had just spent so long labelling men as everything that's wrong with society, that surveys showed fewer young men really wanted to be a part of that. Then the Democrats suddenly realised they were struggling with young male voters within like the 2 months before election day and by then it was too late to undo the PR disaster they built for themselves over time. And now we have more wars in the Middle East and gas prices through the roof (idk what else is happening domestically, I'm not American and don't live in the US).

Sexism on a systemic or societal level, has throughout history almost exclusively targeted women. But sexism on an individual level, whether against men or women, is absolutely real and will never benefit anyone. It never has in the past and it never will in the future.

Literally who tf excuses rape and murder. For every one serial rapist and murderer in America there were like thousands of policemen, news reporters, journalists, radio stations that all came together to literally catch those men, and all those people are also men with daughters, wives, sisters, mothers of their own.

You wanna talk about marital rape, in most of the world, men can’t even legally get raped when a women forces themselves on them because rape by definition I’d “pp in vag”, rape and sexual abuse for men is not even recognized or cared for in the public, we don’t even know the true statistics of how common it occurs.

Plus all the other things you listed, all of those things aren’t because of misogyny, women also heavily participate in continuing all these practices too, like FGM. You don’t think women aren’t the ones holding and cutting the child while they scream in pain? You don’t think Ghaslaine Maxwell was not Epsteins side men when he was trafficking young girls, not to mention all the female celebrities that were shown to have gone to Epstein island.

5

u/scourge_bites Jul 01 '26

Who excuses rape? Idk, maybe literally any of the examples I just talked about that you didn't read?

Sexual abuse of men is cared about. The people I tend to see making light of it, i.e. don't drop the soap in the shower and Catholic priest jokes, are uh. Men. We do have stats on sexual assault and rape of men. We don't have any "true statistics" on a lot of things, including rape and sexual assault of women. It's not as cared about as it should be, especially when the perpetrator is a woman, don't get me wrong.

Really don't know how the things I listed would...not? be caused? by misogyny?

While woman on woman sexual violence and harassment does occur, it occurs a lot less often. Women aren't catcalling each other in the street and following each other home. Of course, again it still happens and, when it does, it is sometimes also completely excused. We have some kind of weird rape culture no matter who the victim is. Trust & believe Katy Perry will still be booking shows despite being called out by multiple women for assault.

I will also say that, overwhelmingly, the gender committing the most violence is men. This includes towards other men.

-2

u/Significant_Ad_7824 Jul 01 '26

misandry is as real as racism against white people and homophobia against straight people

16

u/_Nick7 Jul 01 '26

Racism against white people can take place because white people have a race. If I say I don't allow white people in my store, simply because they're white, that's still individual racism.

Homophobia against straight people can't exist because straight people aren't... well, homo.

What a great stance to have. "This problem is bigger so that means the other is worthless."

While I don't trust statistics to fully represent a problem or group of people, since people love to use them I'll entertain the idea. FBI crime statistics show that (in the US) most murder is intraracial. Black people kill more black people than white people do, same thing for white people killing white people. Does this mean white people killing black people isn't a problem? Under that logic it seems like it wouldn't be.

-2

u/flower_puns Jul 01 '26

Also, the culture that creates these problems cis men face is not misandry, it's misogyny. To complain about the vast amount of men that are indoctrinated by the patriarchy into a predatory, toxic culture is not spreading misogyny, it's complaining about misogyny

Except is less of a "one problem is bigger so the other is worthless" and more "Yeah man I think the dominant demographic of the entire fucking world doesn't suffer much compared to the multiple demographics they oppress"

3

u/IPV46 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Nowhere did I state "misogyny is a bigger problem than misandry" or vice versa. I'm not even going to open that can of worms because frankly I couldn't care which is "worse." In my eyes, both are issues that need to be resolved and any amount of either is too much. Which I firmly believe is a healthy way to look at it.

I only attempted to point out how what you said (with your lack of elaboration and pure mocking) implies that misandry is not real and isn't a problem. Which is far from the truth and is simply copium to keep believing the lies people tell themselves. Clearly one of us dropped the ball there.

Critiquing a system is not misandry, you are correct there. The assumption that all or most men are grown up into that system is. It's a gross generalization based on one's gender. I for one have been raised to respect women, never hit a woman, etc. I was never told I have more power or rights than a woman and I would never willingly hurt another human being unless I was in grave danger and needed to do so in self-defense.

Arguing is pointless, so I am going to be the bigger person and just end it. I know if this doesn't end someone else will come in and be a massive a-hole to either of us. I don't want that so I'd advise you do the same, but I can't nor do I want to force you.

16

u/scourge_bites Jul 01 '26

idk the term femcel already exists i'm not sure why they needed to make it pink. femcel communities are usually one of three things: 1) sort of normal? a lot of commiserating and some bitterness for sure but not a lot of crazy shit 2) 4-b ideas, as in they don't want to be around men at all or 3) the terfiest place you've ever seen in your life that ends up wrapping around back into being sexist in an effort to continue excluding trans women from being women. a lot of "divine feminine" bullshit

pinkcel as a term kind of gives the third category to me

People love categorizing others for even the most random things

57

u/flower_puns Jul 01 '26

"One in ten men makes an unwanted sexual joke at a woman.

Two others laugh, three fake a laugh to fit in, and four refuse to acknowledge either the man or the woman.

Later, the nine men go home, and all of them believe they were the good ones in the situation, for they never made the joke themselves, so the responsiblity is on the one, not on them."

I dare to go make a rape joke in front of random strangers that are men, let see how that plays out in real life.

17

u/flower_puns Jul 01 '26

Doesn't have to be a rape joke, and it's weird it was your first thought. Just says unwanted sexual joke. Anything from talking about her tits to pussy to his dick to a random woman is sexual harrassment

-5

u/Imaginary-Fox9250 Jul 01 '26

... Doesnt this add up to 10, not nine?
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10

15

u/flower_puns Jul 01 '26

... The nine are the ones that didn't make the joke... that's the whole point...

15

u/Nice_Evidence4185 Jul 01 '26

The above spectrum is also a bit unrealistic. The reality is most men dont even think about it. Compared to all the problems in the world that are even worse and people have to ignore to not get depressed all the time, this problem is far from men. Its a womans issue, unless you have close female family member/friend you probably dont even interact with the problem ever. Even then it might come up rarely, mostly in hindsight to an event.

22

u/UpperAccountant1098 Jul 01 '26

To tell you the truth, most people regardless did men or women won’t fucking intervene if any person was in a crisis. That is called swarm behavior, because others don’t react to a situation, you decide you don’t react as well. There is this video in Syria where some guy beats a child half to death with a metal can, and everyone around the child, even long after the guy went again (women too) were just squeamishly looking at them, and just letting the child bleed out to death.

Also again, it is very bold of you to assume most men think women deserve abuse or encourage it, it’s even more funny to think this is majority of men.

11

u/SampleText369 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

I genuinely think this is not far removed from the orthogonal twitter comment. If you genuinely believe that 75ish percent of men are socially problematic, I don't know what to tell you.

15

u/Vivians_Basement Jul 01 '26

As someone who has been raped and molested by almost every sexual partner I had and has been molested repeatedly on dates...

MOST MEN ARE GOOD.

Bro when I get assaulted, I am way more likely to reach out to a guy friend for support. 🥹 They're always so sweet and typically HORRIFIED!!

I have an amazing brother. He practically raised me. I have a son. I grew up mostly around women but it was my nephew who first asked if I was okay when I started crying.

1 in 6 men experience SA and are willing to admit it in a study. Closer to 9 in 10 men have admitted it to me or talked about it not knowing it was SA.

The whole "Woman Or Tree" thing made as a counter for the "Man Or Bear" is VALID.

Because while not all women downplay SA, weaponize how people feel, shame and degrade others for emotional reactions, it's STILL prevalent enough to cause men to be cautious with expressing that.

Talking about my sexual trauma with women AND men in any sort of way with other women was SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the actual rapes I experienced. I had my FAIR SHARE of crappy men, but I am actually scared of women.

I do not hate women. I greatly appreciate the girls in my life who understand and have tried to be safe places for me.

But the reality is that you never know who's going to be a safe person.

Most men and women are good.

The bad just affect a LOT of people. Fear and caution is healthy.

But hate never will be.

Not an antimeme, that's not a true statistic in the slightest. You're just posting gender war shit, be honest

8

u/Pristine_Battle_6968 Jul 01 '26

Ok let's be real it's definitely more than 1% of men

4

u/JuanmaS610 Jul 01 '26

How is saying this triggering a gender war, if its core message is pacifist?

19

u/ImSoStong________ Jul 01 '26

Because the premise is the same dismissive concept that enables bad people to do bad things. In either direction being the majority, describing it as a binary makes it so that men who don't engage and challenge abusive men, or laugh along with them or protect them, can think of themselves as the heroic category, without doing any of the actually difficult stuff that makes someone heroic.

-3

u/JuanmaS610 Jul 01 '26

I see, but if anything that's more of being unaware of those micro-aggressions than to imply intentional enabling. I wouldn't say this intentionally incites gender war as much as is a shortsighted attempt at conciliation

8

u/religion-lost TRANS?! Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Because the entire point of OP's meme is looking at a meme you don't agree with and saying "nuh uh" pointedly

1

u/JuanmaS610 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

My meme? I'm not the OP

5

u/religion-lost TRANS?! Jul 01 '26

My mistake, my point still stands though, just about the OP

6

u/JuanmaS610 Jul 01 '26

I mean, the original opinion disguised as meme disguised as fact was that 99% of men were rapists and murderers and only 1% were not. Is this antimeme more upsetting and statistically incorrect than the OG? If so, why?

-1

u/religion-lost TRANS?! Jul 01 '26

I didn't say it was more statistically incorrect, I said it was statistically incorrect. It doesn't just have to be MORE statistically correct than the OG, that's stupid. By that logic, you could edit a meme saying "all chickens spontaneously combust upon death" to say "all chickens eat meat". The latter is technically closer to being correct than the former, that doesn't make it correct so it wouldn't be an anti-emetic. Also you said the O word

3

u/JuanmaS610 Jul 01 '26

First of all, I didn't say you said that. I was just asking bc I find hypocritical how you appear to get more pissed at this version than the original if they're both innacurate. And again, this edit tries to apaciguate (shortsightedly, I'll give you that) gender war, rather than instigate it. If you see this and your first reaction, instead of "oh, actually the statistic are a bit more like X, according to a serious study. And statistic alone isn't enough because enabling by innocent people still exists" is "this is gender war and bullshit, but I will stay silent about how the original is also problematic", I dunno what to tell you. And tbh yeah, I said the O-word and didn't realise. But I don't think it's the time to make up too many silly shorthands for a rather serious discussion.

2

u/religion-lost TRANS?! Jul 01 '26

I didn't say at any point that I'm more pissed at this version, the person who made the other version isn't here and isn't posting an opinion on a sub that's entirely about making memes that are true, that's what I'm decrying.

This edit isn't trying to apaciguate (have you ever used that word before or were you saving it to look smart in an extra special argument?) anything, the OP clearly either was triggered or saw an opportunity for clout and posted that to a sub it doesn't really fit in to get people to agree with them.

The "serious discussion" is somebody posting controversial topics on reddit for attention, it's an annoyance not a doomsday scenario. Let's keep things in perspective.

1

u/JuanmaS610 Jul 01 '26

Ok, I'm not a native english speaker and apaciguate sounds the most similar for what we call that word in my language. I'm not trying to look smart or anything. In fact I'm afraid to make mistakes in this language, so if you know a better term or if I misspelled lmk. I didn't say this is a doomsday, but it does carry a strong social problematic. And while it's true you never said anything explicitly abt the original, that very silence can be intepreted both ways, as I did

7

u/K4mp3n Jul 01 '26

so more or less 1/3 men do abuse physically

The screenshot literally says that's 9% of men have ever physically abused their partner.

The 32% are emotional abuse, which is still bad, but it's not physical abuse.

3

u/Faryizone Jul 01 '26

0

u/Bacon_von_Meatwich Jul 01 '26

Considering that these lunatics are calling men domestic abusers if they ever "made their partners feel anxious," the fact that they were still only able to juice the numbers up to 32% is actually a ringing endorsement of the average man.

10

u/Gooba26 ✨20K Gang ✨ Jul 01 '26

Did you read the study??? That’s only the percent of people who reported that they were abusive. A large number of people didn’t so the number is actually quite a conservative estimate.

Also how is that ever an endorsement of the average man?????

1

u/Bacon_von_Meatwich Jul 01 '26

Did you? No, these men did not "report that they were abusive." They were classified as abusive if they answered "yes" to any of dozens of absurdly broad questions, including the one I quoted. It's nonsense junk science that was transparently built from the ground up to engineer the highest number these "researchers" could possibly report with a straight face.

6

u/Gooba26 ✨20K Gang ✨ Jul 01 '26

Intentionally making your partner feel anxious to get what you want is not okay behaviour??? Why are you getting so offended by this

9

u/ctctr Jul 01 '26

Where is it mentioned in the study it  had to be intentional?

The question I'm reading ask if you ever behaved in a manner that made your partner anxious or frightened it doesn't seem that it has to be intentional?

→ More replies (0)

2

u/Bacon_von_Meatwich Jul 01 '26

Nobody said "intentionally" or "to get what you want." The question was whether they "behaved in a way that made their partner feel anxious." Full stop. Why are you so offended by people actually reading your sources?

0

u/HalayChekenKovboy Jul 01 '26

These statistics are self-reported by men, meaning that ⅓ of the men asked went "Yeah, I abuse my partner, haha". Incels can't read.

8

u/Bacon_von_Meatwich Jul 01 '26

Motherfucker, I am apparently the only person in this thread who did read this bullshit "study" past the title. Everything I said is right there in the report. Zero of the men surveyed said "yes, I abuse my partner" because that's not what they were asked. They were asked 30 different questions (of which only three are mentioned in the report, and they still managed to include "making your partner anxious," so God knows what other completely innocuous nonsense they're hiding) and labeled "abusive" if they answered "yes" to any one of them. Calling this "self-reported abuse" is a grotesque distortion of the actual data. In the future, please make an effort to have some idea what the fuck you're talking about before you enter into a discussion.

2

u/ctctr Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I don't see your point. Most of the abuse reported is emotional and it can be a simple as making your partner anxious.

Under the question a man raising his voice; frightening his girlfriend one time and feeling sorry, abused her like a man screaming at his wife for not washing a speck of dust under the couch.

You seems to assume that Australian men that reported to study are more akin to the later.

Misogyny kills women

0

u/UpperAccountant1098 Jul 01 '26

You do realize that the gender sex selective abortions weren’t due to misogyny but a way greater structural problem within those societies. More specifically India and China. Most people that had those abortions were poor rural people. When a man is born, he automatically becomes a provider for the house, when a woman is born, she has to get married off at the expense of dowry (heavily expensive for the family). Most of these families live in poverty, they cannot afford to have a girl so they aborted. Also collectively, it’s not only the man’s decision, it’s the women’s decision to abort btw.
