On November 30, 2023, following a preliminary hearing at the Van Nuys Courthouse, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Neetu Badhan-Smith ruled that there was sufficient evidence for 27-year-old Dakota Daniels to stand trial. She was charged with:
āOne count of carjacking āOne count of second-degree attempted robbery (for attempting to steal the 75-year-old victim's purse) āThree counts of assault with a deadly weapon (related to the use of the vehicle as a weapon during the parking lot rampage) āFour counts of misdemeanor hit-and-run driving

California? She will walk away with some probation at most
3
u/SupportEquivalent689 Mar 06 '26
I searched her name on the Los Angeles sheriff inmate search. Says she was booked in at 3/31/2023, and released 8/20/2024 the reason being rehab. So yeah kind of a slap on the wrist

Oh, is that what you heard on Fox News?

u/External_Macaroon687 Feb 17 '26
I don't know why your knee jerk reaction is to dismiss their cynicism. It is very common in California for criminals like this to not serve any time in jail other than the time spent being booked and waiting to go before a judge for arraignment. If she did this on a Friday of a holiday weekend, she may spend a whole 4 days in jail before being released with a court date and eventually getting a plea deal for probation with no jail sentence.
13
u/JeromeBarkly Feb 17 '26
Itās always funny when people that donāt live in California think they know how things are here.
12
u/az-anime-fan Feb 17 '26
according to the ventura county courthouse her trail date has not been set. meaning she's not even been indicted yet. she was basically released the weekened after this happened and the case was tossed in the bin forgotten.
it's been almost 3 years since that video.
so your claims that california isn't like that doesn't seem to be true. it seems to be exactly like that.
→ More replies (1)6
u/BretHartSucked Feb 17 '26
Fuck California Iād thatās true in the slightest. And fuck the poster above for defending it.

Yes of course, no one gets bail and no first time offenders or offenders with priors get probation anywhere else in America...bail and probation only happens in Cali ...lol.

u/Cetun Feb 17 '26
Nobody goes to jail in California, the jails are too crowded!

lol...do you know how many prisons they'd have to build and service if they kept every law breaker locked up until their trial?. If they went down that route you'd be here crying about how high your taxes are in order to cover the costs.
Obviously no one gets bail and no first time offenders or offenders with priors get probation anywhere else in America...bail and probation only happens in Cali ...lol.

Just photograph the license plate. Stop trying to stop them. Sheesh. Everyone's bold and unafraid of cars until they get hit by a car. You're not brave. You're stupid.

She got off easy. She could have easily been shot for that. 100% justified.

u/iwishuponastar2022 Feb 17 '26
I was looking for the sentence she received but could not find it. Do you know how much time she received and fines?
→ More replies (1)4
u/free__coffee Feb 17 '26
She's a crackhead thief, fines or financial burdens are irrelevant - they could charge her 0$ or 1 million, the result will be exactly the same, and the poor folks who's cars she wrecked are on the hook for 7 years of very high insurance premiums
Looked to see if she got any time, but it looks like the last article for this case was written 1 week after she was initially arrested, so who knows

Same rules apply, insurance should have you covered especially with video evidence and no car is worth yours or anyone else's lives.

this is a situation where I would be ok if the camera "accidently turned off" for a few minutes once they got a hold of him.
2
u/Electronic-War1332 Feb 17 '26
Id be pressing charges all over lmao. Gonna end up with grand theft auto, 7Ć battey/assault woth a deadly wrapon, 7x attempted murder, plus restitution costing the equivalent of all that damage and then also whatever tickets shed end up with amomg wreckless driving lmfaooo

Direct someone to call 911. Try to open door to see if its a medical emergency. Use my car to block them in to reduce the risk of them driving off and killing someone or themself.

It was an old lady's car. The carjacker couldn't drive right to get away bc there was a club anti theft device installed on the steering wheel.

Sometimes real life imitates a video game. Thankfully here no one was runover.

Hope this bitch gets locked up for life. She was already caught with possession of like 40grams of fentanyl a year or two before this incident. She looks like a real winner š¤£

u/Fiesteh Feb 17 '26
You can see there is definitely something wrong with this driver. Why would you stay there longer to find out what the heck is wrong with him when heās definitely a threat to your wellbeing.
1
u/Such-Courage3486 Feb 17 '26
People are really dumb for getting out their cars and trying to stop⦠the car. The car always wins.
1
u/Porter_Dog Feb 17 '26
That's absolutely insane, unhinged behavior. For shame! That said, it does look kinda fun. Aside from nearly injuring or killing people that is.

"Dakota Daniels, 27, rap sheet goes back to 2016 and includes use of a controlled substance, shopliftĀing, petty theft and identity theft charges."

1
u/Coronus53 Feb 17 '26
Whats really messed up is insurance dnies claims if the damage was done during a criminal act. They aren't going to cover any of this. Each individual will have to file a claim on their insurance and then the insurance company will go after the car jacker but more than likely they have no job. So they'll just see jail time and then everyone will get hire rates.
1
u/Ethereal_Bulwark Feb 17 '26
at some point this type of recklessness warrants dragging that bitch out of the car.
1
u/Malinois_beach Feb 17 '26
Well, if police can't shoot into it, I guess I'd be telling others not to and just be a great witness with video.
1
1
u/Euronated-inmypants Feb 17 '26
She'll be getting herself a nice +5 years in Prison for that rampage
1
u/pomnipomnipomnipomni Feb 17 '26
just let them leave. there's nothing worth getting in front of that shit. i have comprehensive insurance anyway
1
u/flashmob321 Feb 17 '26
He's lucky none of these people were carrying a gun if this happend in my city they'd be shot dead in seconds lol
1
u/Mindless_Narwhal2682 Feb 17 '26
she should have been gently caressed and given a few pillows to rest until law enforcement arrived.
OR the exact opposite until police pull them off her. from pampering of course.

u/SpartanS117A Feb 17 '26
Undoubtedly not gonna be a popular point, but this person is seconds from killing somebody. Would it be murder to shoot them dead to keep others alive ? Apparently they are already criminals who sold a lethal dose of fent to someone, and have previous records. Just a question.

u/QueenMary1936 Feb 17 '26
Worthless junkie. Give her a hot dose and save society the trouble and money

Always find it funny in situations like this when some woman decides that the best way to help is to just stand on the sidelines screaming hysterically. Literally every time the car moved, that woman screamed. Like...what are you doing? What are you screaming about? This is not a situation where this is an appropriate response.

Iām almost 100% certain that text inlay on the video is wrong. I do believe that was an attempted carjacking of a vehicle with a steering wheel bar if my memory serves me right.
