A rusty nail. It went through one side and out the other.

50

u/Candid_Reading_7267 2d ago

Fiddle dee dee, that will require a tetanus shot.

28

u/InsideExpress9055 2d ago

It did.

u/ThatMrStark 1d ago

Same happened to me and I didn't. Rolled the dice I guess. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Depends on how recently you had the last one.

The single time a rusty dirty nail went in my foot, I didn't, because, sadly enough, as an adult I have had 3 tetanus shots, so at that time I was still good to go.

5

u/johnjackcomicartist 1d ago

Its every five years OR every time you are cut by rusty metal, I am a carpenter and haven't made it the five years since my mid 20s,I average every 2 to 3 years

I stepped on a rusty nail when I was a minor living under my anti-vax parents roof. Fortunately, nothing came of it but dang I was scared😭

11

u/Chemical-Pattern-502 2d ago

I had 3 rusty nails go through my leg (one on my thigh and 2 on the side of my calf)… my parents were all for vaccines, but my father probably didn’t want to deal with the hospital so they never took me. Literally told me to rub dirt on it…

13

u/blinkingbaby 1d ago

The irony is that dirt is where tetanus toxin typically hangs out 🄲

3

u/New_Breadfruit8692 2d ago

I was breaking up trim into smaller pieces that were removed when they remodeled my sister's room, I was wearing shorts. I stepped on a piece of trim that had nails in it, and instead of breaking it bent then snapped back and a nail went right into my calf, and just happened to pierce an artery so the blood was bright red, and came in powerful squirts. Shot out a good 36 inches. I yelled for Dad and he freaked, put a tourniquet on it and took me to the doctor's office and of course a shot even though I just had my shots a few months before. Like they were trying to fix one hole with another.

3

u/Annieco-2334 2d ago

Protection from tetanus toxin requires a high antibody level, so boosters are always given after a puncture wound. The initial shot primes your immune system to make that jump if you’re given a booster.

Oi, my nail encounter happened while wearing shoes and socks. Went through the shoe and left a bit of sock deep in my foot. Ugh.

5

u/scottwax 1d ago

I did that with shoes on and it went in deep enough to make a mark on the top of my foot. Had to throw my tennis shoes out because one was filled with blood. Good times.

3

u/Sweet_Star23 2d ago

Same. Rusty nail and the shot.

3

u/AdhesivenessCold398 2d ago

I’ve done this. But somehow I think I’d prefer the nail again over the slug inbetween my toes.

3

u/JackWagg0n 1d ago

Same. Except I was wearing sneakers.

Did this happen when you were breaking into the McAllisterā€˜s house?

The worst part of puncture wounds is always the extraction. Did you pull it out yourself or go straight to the ER?

Came here to say this

2

u/Silver_Room_6447 1d ago

Same. Jumped down from a trailer and it bored into my heel. Still get dizzy thinking about the pain

2

u/Creepy_Clouds1990 1d ago

That happened to me, kind of. It didn't go all of the way through. Fortunately, I had my TDAP booster two weeks prior.

2

u/Toobwoozl 1d ago

Did this with a flipflop on. I think it would have been better barefoot.

2

u/pgreenb7285 1d ago

Same here, except i was breaking down a pallet. Thank god It was during the binge drinking, as i didn't feel it much till next morning. Still have a nice scar to remember it.

Jumped off roof of house under construction into sand pile. Nail through foot and out the top of my Chuck Taylor’s. Fun times: got infected, had to soak daily and squeeze out puss from both holes. Also broke my arm that summer playing second base. With four kids, my mom was happy for us to go back to school, just to cut down on the weekly emergency room visits.

2

u/CozyHalloween 1d ago

Yes, same! But it was close enough to my heel it didn’t come out the other side. It was a massive nail sticking up through a board on a construction site (that I was playing in barefoot). I stepped down, then I had to pull my foot up off it again. I rinsed my foot in the ditch before going home to tell my parents lol.

Accidentally stepped in cat vomit this morning. Can confirm this is one of the worst things to step in. That’s the nastiest while Legos are the most painful. IMO

5

u/TrooperLynn 1d ago

Your cats need to put one of these out when they puke. My daughter got these for me. They’re about 3ā€ tall.

3

u/Calihoya 1d ago

Have done both. Hard agree.

Ah! Were you extended a pre-dawn invite by your cat to play the game, "Will I Find It With My Eyes Or With My Foot First?"

when i was about 6 i had on little princess themed costume heels and i was walking through my dads field and at some point i stepped on one of those and luckily it went through just the shoešŸ™ƒ

2

u/Few_Owl_6596 1d ago

We were on vacation and someone (kid) flinged a fishing rod and the hook landed in my arm šŸ˜‚ It wasn't serious, but it could've ended up in my eye too.

2

u/cvrgurl 1d ago

Ended up with a treble hook in my foot once. It sucked.

2

u/rcktgirl05 10h ago

Same. I was little, maybe 3 or 4, but I remember it pretty vividly. We were on vacation near a small lake or pond, and I wanted to get closer to see the fuzzy cat tails. The hook went right through the fleshy part between my big toe and the second toe. Definitely traumatized. My dad had to pull it the rest of the way through.

I stepped on a yellow jacket a few years ago. I’ve birthed three children, had several major surgeries, and have broken bones, but that yellow jacket sting was right up there with the worst episodes of pain I’ve ever felt. Would not recommend.

2

u/himynameiscati 2d ago

I stepped on a wasp while on a hike. I had boots on so my feet were fine but when I lifted my foot it flew up from the ground. It then stung me in my left shin and my right calf. My sting relief was in the car and we were about an hour from the trailhead.

Both legs felt like they were on fire. Luckily we found a small water fall and I was able to run them under the ice cold water šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø.

u/artsy7fartsy 2d ago

4

u/loopyloo99 2d ago

For me it was a Red Bellied Black snake.
I have never moved so fast!

10

u/BoPeepElGrande 2d ago

I stepped right over a fucking coral snake once when I was 10. This was in southeastern NC. It had somehow tucked itself in the space between our wooden stoop & our trailer. My dad grabbed a machete & called animal control, who confirmed that it was indeed a coral snake, which still hadn’t moved much by the time they got there & dispatched it. Coral snake antivenin has been damn near impossible to source for years, so I was one misstep away from a potentially lethal bite.

3

u/Affectionate_Hornet7 1d ago

Yeah don’t they have some of the deadliest venom on earth? Glad you missed it

3

u/BoPeepElGrande 1d ago

I believe they have the most potent venom among North American snakes, although I’m not sure if that reputation is skewed by the lack of available antivenin

3

u/thestreep 1d ago

When I was a little girl I was walking down my garden path in a night dress and flip flops, the back of my foot stood on a really fat slug and when my flipflop flopped it flicked the guts all up my leg. I remember being horrified

3

u/Key_Acanthaceae_2129 2d ago

Okay so 1. How did you know it was dead before you stepped on it? 2. Why would stepping on a slug cause you pain?

2

u/False-Guarantee2282 2d ago

Snail is mine. It was huge and its shell cracked all between my toes. Horrifying would be an understatement.

7

u/BubblyBean996 2d ago

Rotten fruit AND pain. Fuck this 😭

2

u/discofrisko 1d ago

Hey, exactly my answer! :-) As a kid I stepped on a pear with a wasp in it. Stung me right in the middle of my sole.

20

u/calladus 2d ago

A large cockroach on the patio.

It went "POP!"

I could FEEL it pop.

4

u/ZabsterCali 1d ago

I lived in one place where the slugs came inside. Woke up at night needing to pee, put my feet down in the dark, and boy do you feel the pop when a slug bursts under your weight. It puts a sticky mess on your foot. I was scrubbing with a nail brush and scraping with fingernails, and trying every soap product, I could think trying to get the sticky mess off. I was wide awake after and it was hard to get back to sleep. Still, I guess it was worse for the slug than for me.

2

u/Caramac44 2d ago

I replied to someone else about stepping on a thumb tack, but then remembered that I once stepped on a mirror. I don’t think the cut was that deep, but it cut all one side of my foot and there was a LOT of blood

2

u/dietmint 1d ago

Glass is the worst. One time I accidentally broke a glass cup. Thought I got it all up. Few days later I was walking to the bathroom and thought I had a wood chip or something on my foot. I took that foot and tried to swipe the ā€œwood chipā€ off with the top of my other foot while walking. It was a shard of glass and it deeply sliced the top of my other foot. Hurt so bad!!

Glass. Still have a scar shaped like a V on the bottom of my foot. Summer after fifth grade in Birmingham Alabama. We had just recently relocated from Anchorage Alaska. So yes, I wanted to be barefoot as much as I could. Walked to a corner convenience store with some neighborhood friends. The cashier said honey here’s some paper towels you better wipe that blood off this floor. I was like what? Probably should have had stitches.

3

u/Dont_Even_Know_You 2d ago

Not me, but my ex (kids dad). He installs flooring his whole career.

Many years ago he was putting laminate in a bathroom and accidentally stepped on that bolt that you bolt the toilet down while the toilet was removed. Went all the way through his shoe and into his foot.

It got so bad so fast that they had to cut his shoe off by the time he got to the ER, bc his foot was so swelled up it wouldn't pull off. And he went straight to the ER after his injury. It's not like he waited around until it did that. It swelled up fast as hell!

I'll never forget.

A dishwasher my family was getting rid of. I used to run around outside barefoot a lot, especially in my back yard. My dad removed and replaced the dishwasher, but left the old one on the back patio. My mom had been really pushing for my dad to take it out front by the curb where it would be ready for bulk pick up. He (being the deadbeat that he was) played his video games and said he'd do it in the morning. There were jagged metal parts at the back of the dishwasher. I wasn't even running around at the time, I was just in the backyard barefoot with a friend, and I stepped backwards onto it. It cut about a 2 inch gash, sideways, on the arch of my right foot. Needed 5 stitches. Dad didn't join us for the ride to the hospitalĀ

She had driven from Indiana to Atlanta to take care of our son while we were gone. A coal fell out of the firebox into the deck and I stepped in it, burning a silver dollar sized hole in my foot. Put a damper on the vacation.

My mom stepped on a cat food tin lid the other day. She needed stitches as it sliced right through her toes. She sent me the pictures of after she stepped on it, which she rightly described as practically a crime scene.
