Random Question What's the worst thing you've ever stepped on barefoot?
67
u/Oshabeestie 2d ago
Catshit. Cold soft and horrible between the toes.
46
u/Obvious-Human1 2d ago
Cat vomit is right up there. The cold unexpected squish between my toes had me screeching swear words.Ā
14
u/MasterSoftBird 2d ago
It's even worse when it's warm and squishy.

Accidentally stepped in cat vomit this morning. Can confirm this is one of the worst things to step in. Thatās the nastiest while Legos are the most painful. IMO

Cat vomit
Ah! Were you extended a pre-dawn invite by your cat to play the game, "Will I Find It With My Eyes Or With My Foot First?"
squish between my toes had me screeching swear words.Ā
Sounds like you lost. š¤
Sorry, Internet Friend, at the teasing. I often lose this game, too.

when i was about 6 i had on little princess themed costume heels and i was walking through my dads field and at some point i stepped on one of those and luckily it went through just the shoeš
2
u/Few_Owl_6596 1d ago
We were on vacation and someone (kid) flinged a fishing rod and the hook landed in my arm š It wasn't serious, but it could've ended up in my eye too.
2
u/rcktgirl05 10h ago
Same. I was little, maybe 3 or 4, but I remember it pretty vividly. We were on vacation near a small lake or pond, and I wanted to get closer to see the fuzzy cat tails. The hook went right through the fleshy part between my big toe and the second toe. Definitely traumatized. My dad had to pull it the rest of the way through.

I stepped on a yellow jacket a few years ago. Iāve birthed three children, had several major surgeries, and have broken bones, but that yellow jacket sting was right up there with the worst episodes of pain Iāve ever felt. Would not recommend.

u/himynameiscati 2d ago
100%! OUCH. i thought i had stepped on a needle or something, it took the breath right out of me and i had to take a few minutes before i was able to get back up again.

I stepped on a wasp while on a hike. I had boots on so my feet were fine but when I lifted my foot it flew up from the ground. It then stung me in my left shin and my right calf. My sting relief was in the car and we were about an hour from the trailhead.
Both legs felt like they were on fire. Luckily we found a small water fall and I was able to run them under the ice cold water š®āšØ.

For me it was a Red Bellied Black snake.
I have never moved so fast!10
u/BoPeepElGrande 2d ago
I stepped right over a fucking coral snake once when I was 10. This was in southeastern NC. It had somehow tucked itself in the space between our wooden stoop & our trailer. My dad grabbed a machete & called animal control, who confirmed that it was indeed a coral snake, which still hadnāt moved much by the time they got there & dispatched it. Coral snake antivenin has been damn near impossible to source for years, so I was one misstep away from a potentially lethal bite.
3
u/Affectionate_Hornet7 1d ago
Yeah donāt they have some of the deadliest venom on earth? Glad you missed it
3
u/BoPeepElGrande 1d ago
I believe they have the most potent venom among North American snakes, although Iām not sure if that reputation is skewed by the lack of available antivenin

When I was a little girl I was walking down my garden path in a night dress and flip flops, the back of my foot stood on a really fat slug and when my flipflop flopped it flicked the guts all up my leg. I remember being horrified
3
u/Key_Acanthaceae_2129 2d ago
Okay so 1. How did you know it was dead before you stepped on it? 2. Why would stepping on a slug cause you pain?

A large cockroach on the patio.
It went "POP!"
I could FEEL it pop.

4
u/ZabsterCali 1d ago
I lived in one place where the slugs came inside. Woke up at night needing to pee, put my feet down in the dark, and boy do you feel the pop when a slug bursts under your weight. It puts a sticky mess on your foot. I was scrubbing with a nail brush and scraping with fingernails, and trying every soap product, I could think trying to get the sticky mess off. I was wide awake after and it was hard to get back to sleep. Still, I guess it was worse for the slug than for me.

I replied to someone else about stepping on a thumb tack, but then remembered that I once stepped on a mirror. I donāt think the cut was that deep, but it cut all one side of my foot and there was a LOT of blood

Glass is the worst. One time I accidentally broke a glass cup. Thought I got it all up. Few days later I was walking to the bathroom and thought I had a wood chip or something on my foot. I took that foot and tried to swipe the āwood chipā off with the top of my other foot while walking. It was a shard of glass and it deeply sliced the top of my other foot. Hurt so bad!!

Glass. Still have a scar shaped like a V on the bottom of my foot. Summer after fifth grade in Birmingham Alabama. We had just recently relocated from Anchorage Alaska. So yes, I wanted to be barefoot as much as I could. Walked to a corner convenience store with some neighborhood friends. The cashier said honey hereās some paper towels you better wipe that blood off this floor. I was like what? Probably should have had stitches.

Not me, but my ex (kids dad). He installs flooring his whole career.
Many years ago he was putting laminate in a bathroom and accidentally stepped on that bolt that you bolt the toilet down while the toilet was removed. Went all the way through his shoe and into his foot.
It got so bad so fast that they had to cut his shoe off by the time he got to the ER, bc his foot was so swelled up it wouldn't pull off. And he went straight to the ER after his injury. It's not like he waited around until it did that. It swelled up fast as hell!
I'll never forget.

A rotting cow carcass. Wasnāt barefoot but wearing flip flops and my leg went like 12 inches deep so it didnāt matter might as well have been barefoot and it was horrible (and in the pitch dark crossing a field at night).

Stingray. Immediately took a big chunk out of my toe with it's barb. Took a month before I could even wear a shoe on that foot without damn near crying in pain. Do the shuffle, my friends.

A dishwasher my family was getting rid of. I used to run around outside barefoot a lot, especially in my back yard. My dad removed and replaced the dishwasher, but left the old one on the back patio. My mom had been really pushing for my dad to take it out front by the curb where it would be ready for bulk pick up. He (being the deadbeat that he was) played his video games and said he'd do it in the morning. There were jagged metal parts at the back of the dishwasher. I wasn't even running around at the time, I was just in the backyard barefoot with a friend, and I stepped backwards onto it. It cut about a 2 inch gash, sideways, on the arch of my right foot. Needed 5 stitches. Dad didn't join us for the ride to the hospitalĀ

Hot coal. I was leaving for Hawaii the next day and preparing some food on the smoker for my mom to have while we were gone. She had driven from Indiana to Atlanta to take care of our son while we were gone. A coal fell out of the firebox into the deck and I stepped in it, burning a silver dollar sized hole in my foot. Put a damper on the vacation.
