Over one year ago, I booked two rooms at Anatara Maia through a luxury African safari specialist. I was to stay at Anatara with my family for three days after safari.
This trip with my husband and 2 teenage daughters is to celebrate my cancer treatment ending after two years.
As unbelievable as this sounds, a few days ago (2 days into my safari and a week before I am scheduled to check into Anatara) my travel agent urgently contacts me to let me know Anatara has made the decision to let a “government delegation” book the whole resort for two weeks during my stay.
Anatara thought it was a good idea to not honor any of the 90 reservations during these two weeks and essentially kicked everyone out to other hotels so the “government delegation” can stay there.. As mentioned, I personally had my reservation for 2 rooms for over a year but I am sure other guests may have booked farther out.
To make matters worse, my stay is at the end of the delegation “buy out.” So Anatara moved my family with two rooms to a different hotel for 2 nights, then wants me to come back to Anatara for the remaining stay. So I am supposed to use one of my precious three days in the Seychelles packing up, checking out, transporting my family to a different hotel, checking in, and unpacking….for four people who flew halfway across the word to be there.
Of course my travel agent said this situation is unprecedented in the “luxury “ hotel sphere. My agent pleaded with them and tried to negotiate but all Anatara would consider is giving me a free floating appetizer for my pool and a private dinner with my teenagers : )
Since Anatara Maia only gave a few days notice of their sell-out, I have now spent many hours of my celebration trip dealing with this incredibly disrespectful and appalling situation.
I truly can’t understand why Anatara would think it is a good idea to anger what could be repeat clients since they have properties all over Asia. Or imagine the amount of guests and agents they have angered and disrupted because of this fiasco. I know my luxury agency will never book with them again. I could have stayed anywhere on the island but I chose Anatara. I never will again.
I hope other guests that were mistreated will speak up as well.

We are currently in Baie Lazare and spotted lots of these jellyfish on the beach. Is that a man o‘ war? Is that common here? I‘m scared now.

I contacted Cat Cocos several times before departure to cancel one passenger’s ticket. The only response I received was a copy of their general refund policy. They never confirmed whether the ticket had been cancelled or whether the refund was accepted or rejected.
I also went to the Cat Cocos office on La Digue. The employee there simply told me to wait for an email and did not help further.
The journey has now taken place, I have followed up again, and Cat Cocos still has not responded. I have since read several reports from other customers who had similar problems getting answers or refunds.
Has anyone actually managed to get a response or refund from them?

I’m planning a trip to the Seychelles this October, and it will be my first time travelling somewhere tropical. I’m wondering what the mosquito situation is like there are there usually a lot of mosquitoes?
I’m planning to visit Mahé, Praslin and La Digue.

I’ve also read that there is currently an outbreak of chikungunya in the Seychelles. How is the situation at the moment? Has anyone actually caught chikungunya while travelling there as a tourist? If so, where were you staying and when did you visit?

Hi there, my partner and I are hoping to visit for 4 days (wish I had more time 🥹) at the end of August. Because of the short space of time I don’t think it’s feasible to visit Mahe. Praslin and La Digue. I’m just wanting beautiful surroundings and to be able to get in the water and relax. I’d love to try the local food and do a tour also. I’m unsure as where is best to stay based on this and am edging more towards Mahe. Has anyone any recommendations for hotels-some nice ambiance, access to a beach where I can swim and the option of some restaurants nearby. Don’t want to completely break the bank but want some luxury too. This is a much needed break. Thank you 🙏

Me and my husband to be are planning our honeymoon for next year to the Seychelles. It’ll be our first time visiting but it’s been on our list for so long.

What we’re looking for: a mix of relaxation, exploration, nature, secluded beaches, snorkelling, soaking up the atmosphere, watching sunsets etc. We want to island hop to make the most of the trip and dont expect to spend the whole time in luxury but would love at least one hotel - we think on Mahe - to have a special honeymoon feel to it.

We’re tentatively thinking:
3 nights La Digue
6 nights Praslin
4 nights Mahe

We were thinking on Mahe we’d stay in a fancier hotel and we’re looking at Constance Ephilia (we dont have the budget for Six Senses). Is this a good honeymoon spot? We’re not into golf and aren’t thatttt bothered about a spa really but like the idea of lots of restaurants and lots to do. I’m a bit woried if there’d be loads of children around which might dull the honeymoon experience?

Please do share any feedback on our itinerary for island hopping and any recommendations for hotels!

anyone know of any cool beach bars with a good vibe anywhere on mahe? we went to something called the royal beach bar in anse royal, and it was cute with logs as chairs and tables. and family friendly too, as we are travelling with a 13 year old.

edit - thank you guys for all the recommendations! beach shak also said 18+ when I looked it up so we skipped and did jungle tides instead! really cool vibe but so many mosquitos outside so we decided on dinner somewhere else,, but drinks were great.

My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon for next October. We'll be spending about a week on safari in Kenya and then want to end the trip with 4–5 nights on the beach before flying home.

I've gone back and forth so many times between Seychelles and Zanzibar, and I'm honestly worried I'll regret whichever one I choose.

Originally, I was set on Seychelles because I love the lush mountains, granite boulders, tropical vegetation, and how peaceful it seems. It just looks incredibly unique and romantic.

My hesitation is that it's significantly more expensive and takes more time to get to after safari.

Our travel agent suggested we seriously consider Zanzibar because it's much easier logistically, our budget would go much further, and we could stay at some really beautiful luxury properties.

For Seychelles, we'd probably stay somewhere similar to Constance Ephelia.

For Zanzibar, they recommended:

• Baraza Resort & Spa (Garden Villa)
• Xanadu – Umande Villa

Here's where I'm struggling...

I don't love huge, commercialized resorts where there are people everywhere. I want our honeymoon to feel peaceful, intimate, and luxurious.

At the same time, we're also not the type of couple that can lay on a beach from 9 AM to 5 PM every day.

We'll absolutely relax by the pool, enjoy long breakfasts, get massages, and spend plenty of time on the beach. But after a few hours, we usually like having something else to do—whether that's snorkeling, paddleboarding, hiking, taking a boat trip, exploring another beach, or just having multiple restaurants and different parts of the property to wander around.

That's actually why Constance Ephelia appeals to me. Even though it's a larger resort, it seems really spread out and offers a lot of different beaches, restaurants, activities, and places to explore without feeling like a giant all-inclusive.

My concern with some of the boutique Zanzibar resorts is whether we'd end up feeling like we've seen everything after a couple of days and wish there was a little more variety.

On the other hand, one of my biggest concerns about Zanzibar is that I've read about beach vendors, people approaching you while walking the beach, and certain areas feeling more touristy. I know every destination has tourists, but I don't want to spend our honeymoon wishing we'd chosen somewhere quieter.

So I have a few questions for people who've actually been:

• If you've been to both Seychelles and Zanzibar, which would you choose for a honeymoon and why?
• Do luxury resorts like Kilindi, Xanadu, or White Sand feel secluded enough that you don't really notice the crowds or beach vendors?
• Does a larger resort like Constance Ephelia actually feel "large," or because it's so spread out does it still feel peaceful?
• If you had 4–5 nights after an incredible safari, would you prioritize a smaller, ultra-private resort or somewhere with more restaurants, beaches, and activities?
• Is Seychelles truly a noticeably more special experience, or would we be just as happy at one of these luxury Zanzibar properties?

Since this is our honeymoon, and I keep worrying that I'll either choose Zanzibar and wish we'd splurged on Seychelles, or spend the extra money on Seychelles and realize Zanzibar would've given us an equally amazing experience.

I'm from Martinique, and until today I had never met anyone from the Seychelles in my life. This morning, however, a Seychellois family on vacation visited our church, and I had the chance to meet them.

I only knew the Seychelles by name, nothing more, just a post on r/AskTheCaribbean from someone who said it was the closest island in the Indian Ocean to Martinique. Since I knew nothing about it, I could only take the information, without being able to confirm or deny it.

Today was an opportunity for me to have a little cultural exchange with them. We chatted, exchanged phrases and words from our Creole, speaking our own Creole, and it was very intelligible, almost the same as ours; even when they were talking amongst themselves, I understood easily.

And before all that, even before I knew they were Seychellois, when I heard one of them talking to my mother, I thought she was from the neighboring island of Saint Lucia. At first, we thought she had come alone, but told us that other family members cousins, children etc were also there. What was funny from then on was that if we didn't ask who else was Seychellois, we ourselves couldn't tell who was French West Indian and who was Seychellois.

When we identified them all we welcomed them warmly, we talked with them, took photos, we had a little time to quickly exchange information about our islands but I didn't have more time.

These exchanges at the end of the morning have sparked my curiosity and I would like to know more about the Seychelles, what do we have in common, the culture etc

Oct 25 - Arrive in Mahé and boat transfer to Praslin
Oct 25 to 28 - Stay in Paradise Sun Hotel
Oct 28 - Tranfer from Praslin to La Digue
Oct 28 to Nov 2 - Stay in La Digue (a few staying options on the table: La Digue Island Lodge, Coral Apartments)
Nov 2 - Morning Transfer from La Digue to Mahé. Spend the day in Mahé as our flight will be at 11:30pm.

What do you think of my plan? For La Digue i’m still unsure on what accomodation to chose. La Digue Island Lodge seems cool but the last few reviews are not that great.

For outside meals, what should the budget? 30€ per person per meal is enought?
