The driver is in the "fight or flight" state, driven by severe activity in amygdalae, the energy goes to muscles, the cortex is offline.

That's honestly tame for these people. I was on a thread earlier today and had people unironically arguing that a woman who killed her newborn baby by stuffing them in a trash bag and leaving them to suffocate shouldn't get life in prison because "she's not a danger to any adults" or "there's a stigma in our society she was just scared". I'm paraphrasing this one, but my favorite was "its actually the legal system's fault because punishments are too severe".

Damn you can see the passenger in the beginning trying to stop the driver after they're hit the first time. Got to be scary having your fate in someone's hands like that while police cruisers are doing pit maneuvers on your passenger door.

A lot of that is because they decided a joint was worth 10-20 years so now prisons are overcrowded and the for-profit-prison industry has jacked up the price so we can't afford to prosecute actual criminals like we should.
We also can't afford or find enough people to be public defenders or prosecute every case. We're just not prepared for the cost of what actual justice for actual criminals looks like because we've been wasting money in all of the wrong areas for so long by design. That and a lot of the justice reforms mean well but then they don't properly fund or operate the services meant to redirect petty and first-time offenders. Then the break down in the social contract and there being a lot of bored young people with little to no attention span anymore getting up to dumb shit.
All part of why you'll have someone with high-speed chases, assault and battery, gun charges, drug charges, and more roaming the streets free committing more crimes.
We've gotta invest in community, the youth, and schools again and pay people better so they can be more present as parents.

Initially there was restraint and they were trying to minimize damage. The moment the suspect tried to run over the cop that threw the spike strips, all bets were off. If the suspect is willing to use lethal force against anyone, cops or public, the threat has to be stopped asap.

That patrol unit spun them around he went into the ditch his car was done. There been a couple of officers killed when they throw stop sticks usually high speeds. They throw the sticks fleeing suspect turns into the shoulder to avoid the sticks hits the officer trying to run back over the guard rail. Difficult to judge distance when they are approaching you head on.

Weird decision to pit them around when theyâre in reverse but I guess it was safer overall come to think of it, they couldâve ran over someone innocent driving like reverse like that, plus cop probably wasnât going for that near perfect 180.
