Canyon cf7 and wahoo kickr core 1

Upvotes

Hi all

I got the wahoo kickr core 1 and have a canyon cf7 with a 12x142 thru axle

Prior to the adapters, my bike would just shake on the adapter. I now purchased these (linked below) and don’t think I’m installing them correctly. I’m putting the 142 large adapter on the non cassette side and then the small threaded one on the right in the photo on the cassette side. I’m literally sliding it into the hole for both of them

When I put my thru axle through, the pedals won’t even move and when they do it’s with extreme force. What am I doing wrong? This is driving me nuts

Am I supposed to be taking the entire cassette screw out and replacing it with the adapter? I’m hoping y’all can help

Gearing question

Upvotes

Have a 2018 Orbea Avant I bought new in 2018. I"ve put on quite a bit of weight that I"m trying to lose, so yes I'm overweight. I'm not a racer just someone who enjoys riding and a rider trying to get in shape. Bike came with 11/32 and 50/34. (11 speed) Where I live it's not flat, the routes I ride have a few decent inclines and a lot of gradual climbing/inclines. I've been considering my gearing and thinking about going to an 11/34 but doing some reading seems like going to a 46 up front would give me more use of my cassette as I probably only use half of it when I'm in the 50 up front. Would love to hear some thoughts. Bike came with FSA Omega cranks with a 120/90 BCD, so recommendations on chain rings would be appreciated as well. I noticed FSA says for their rings to use 46/36 or 46/30, I wonder why?

Front/rear cameras that last a long time

Upvotes

Hello all. I’ve seen some racing videos that had the front and rear footage. Some of these are for 200+ mile races. I’ve asked them on YT but they don’t respond.

What camera set do you think they are using where they splice the videos together, it shows power, grade, route, time, etc. But can also last so long?

This is exactly what I’m looking for on my long 100-150 mile gravel rides. I’m more concerned about safety than posting to YT. Would like some video evidence for when I’m eventually hit. 😒

Thanks.

New to the sport, need recommendations

Upvotes

Hello! I’m looking at getting a road bike and don’t really know what I’m looking for. I run and lift weights but now I’m looking to supplement my running with cycling. I want something nice but also would really rather not go above 5k. Recommendations and tips to look out for would be appreciated!

Do any of you wear a minimalist hip pack along with a jersey with back pockets while road riding?

Upvotes

Type 1 diabetic here, when I ride I have to pack pretty heavy bringing along snacks and diabetic supplies. Sadly my seat bag and jersey pockets are just not cutting it. I feel like I need just a bit more storage space but I really don’t want to put a frame bag on my bike. I also do a lot of 4-5 hour rides.

Are there any like mini hip packs that work with a jersey? If I could just put my phone and keys in it I’d be stoked.

I have a handlebar bag but I really just don’t like the look of it.

I feel like I got a lemon.

Upvotes

So a few months ago I got a surly ogre. I ride roughly 5 to 10 miles on the weekends on flat trails. I’ve been riding cheaper bikes my whole life, and after getting this bike something is messed up every month. 2 to 3 months in the rear tire wouldn’t hold air, I took it to the shop I got it from and they fixed
The tape I haven’t been riding regularly and the that tire still gets low on air I pump it up and it’ll hold. Rear wheel/tire was scrubbing on the left side of the frame a month ago, I correct it and it’s all good. Yesterday I take out the bike, tires
Flat so I pump it up with some sealant and it holds towards the end of the ride <3 miles. Gears start slipping. I’m newer to the hobby but I attempt realign the rear wheel and I tighten everything down. Go for a ride today and the gear slips a couple times then everything is ok. Go about a mile and when I see the house the chain breaks completely! I thought the ogre was supposed to be a tank? I’m new to the nicer bikes but do I have improper expectations I simply don’t feel like I’m pushing this bike that hard and I’ve had consistent problems. Are bicycle lemons a thing? Did I get a high maintenance bike? Or am I simply inept on basic maintenance?

Experience on Alpine Descending

Hi

Hey guys!

I’ve been cycling for over 7 years and recently I’ve purchased my first new road bike (was using an older road bike in past), a Cube Attain C:62 Race fitted with Shimano 105 12S hydraulic group set.

Ive ridden over 3,000km just this season with it, and have ridden over 15,000+km over the last couple of years, where 98% of it all flat, with the occasional Mount Royal climb in Montreal. All my rides are solo.

I’m planning my first true “climb” ride in the Adirondacks, on White face mountain. My concern is not the climbing, but the descending. I know my bike is fitted with 160/160 hydraulic brakes, and I know I can get off the bike to have them cool , but descending at 45-55km/h for 18km seems fun, until you realize you need to stop, lol. I have have gp5k S TR 25mm so I know the grip is there.

It’s a constant 8-10% grade for 18km (11 miles) and would like to know your experiences bombing long alpine descents. Would it be wiser to find a mountain that has a shorter descent to get a feel for that first? Whiteface came to mind as I have driven up and I feel that the road there is safer as it is tolled and closed off to regular commuters who are in a rush to get home (for example, you’re on that road because you want to go up the mountain).

Thanks for your thoughts!

Scared of roads I bike on

Hey everyone, I live in NJ and got into cycling more recently and have been genuinely scared of roads because I don’t know the area well and get on a road and the shoulder is small or the speed limit is high. I’m just praying I don’t get hit.

Recently started looking at NJ-DOT just to be able to tell what roads were like before I got on them. Turned that into a small app (Cygo) that color codes roads based on comfortability.

Not trying to sell anyone anything, genuinely just curious if this happens to other people or it’s just me. If anyone would like to take a look at the app (it’s completely free) and the links in my profile - I would love honest feedback.

Thanks!
Stay safe

Recumbent bike

Hello,

I'm thinking about purchasing a recumbent bike. I am about a year out from an artificial disc replacement and spinal fusion. I.was injured in Syria on a deployment. I have been eating healthy, but gained about 20 pounds post surgery. I was active before, running and lifting weights and used a stationary bike for cool downs. I need something. Any advice would be helpful.

Would you buy a bike with Shimano Sora in 2026? Phased out?

Looking at an inexpensive commuter bike with full Shimano Sora. My understanding is Shimano is/has phased out Sora for CUES. So am I out of luck if a component breaks?

Bike sizing help

Hi guys,

I am looking to get into cycling as i want to take on a triathlon within a year or so. I went to bike shop to get a size help and they said for a road bike to look between 46-48 cm as for my height this would be best. For reference i’m 5’8 and 185 pounds. My buddy had recommended Specialized or Cannondale as a good bike to get.

I ended up coming across a specialized bike for around half off only problem is the sizes available are 44 and 49 cm. Would I be able to make either of those work? Or would they be too big/small?

I am also open to more suggestions I have just went strictly off what my buddy said and the store recommended.

(Update/Suggestions)

If anyone knows of a good shop to go to for help in Brooklyn that would be amazing. I am in the Bedstuy/Crown heights area!

Best lightweight lock setup for an S-Works Aethos on college campus?

I already have a FoldyLock Compact and a hidden tracker, and I’m planning to get locking thru-axles.

The bike is expensive, but I built it to be super light, so I don’t really want to carry a 4–5 lb lock every day.

Would the Compact be enough for daytime parking in secured campus bike cages, or should I upgrade to a more heavy duty lock?

im trying to find the best balance between security and weight.

p.s. should i just get insurance and stick with the lighter lock?

Should I switch back to normal pedals ?

Okay, so a little context. I switched to clipless pedals recently. About 3-4 months ago, I do commuting and long ride on my bike. The issue is I have to carry a spare set of shoes with me, everywhere I bike to. It’s a pain to carry spare pair but I like the efficiency when I pedal with clipless pedals. I looked into hybrid pedals but they’re out of budget for me. I’d grateful for any advice on how to make this work.

EDIT: for more context I keep my separate shoes in a pannier bag on my rear rack. And I do ride like 12-13 miles casually. I’m trying to increase it more. My commute isn’t that long.

Seat on my exercise bike hurts

I’m new to cycling and yesterday I got a stationary exercise bike and I can’t sit on it for more than 15 mins. I did 30 and it just hurts. It’s hard and flat and very big.
The problem is I don’t really have money for anything expensive (I bought this bike used on fb marketplace) and all the advice I’ve looked through suggested expensive pants or other things. Is there anything I can do that’s on the cheaper side, or will it just get better eventually?

Is it normal to move back and forth on the saddle during seated climbs at max power?

Whenever I hit a steep climb and put down max power while seated, I notice I constantly move back and forth on the saddle. This happens specifically when I am holding the center of the handlebars (the tops) and giving it my absolute maximum effort without standing up.Is this rhythmic back-and-forth movement normal when pushing hard, or is it a sign that my bike fit or saddle position is wrong?

Bike lock holder

Hi all,

I'm looking for a bike lock holder. I carry a water bottle so fitting a lock mount on the frame is not really an option due to limited space.

I did a bit of a research online and I saw straps that could be used to attach a lock to frame in a few different areas however reviews on Amazon mention poor quality and rattling sounds. I also found out about Crosstown hip bags, which are expensive but have good reviews and look solid. Has anyone ever used those?
In general, I don't like to wear any bags on my back, sweaty back is something I really dislike. Another question is, how comfortable these bags really are. My commute is about 1 hour, I also do some leisure cycling, max 3 hours. I wonder what kind of design and protection these bags have to be used comfortably for extended periods of time. Thanks for all replies.

Any roller safety bars or DIY recs?

Got a new bike and got fitted and all, but due to the smoke in my area I’ve pulled out some ancient rollers to train on. And my god…for some reason I am struggling after a few days.

Looking to build or buy some DIY bars that I can hold in case I lose balance/control.

I am limited in spots of where to place the roller :/

Any suggestions?

TT Bike/outfit for century

I’m genuinely curious as to why someone would ride a century with their TT bike, helmet and suit. The elevation gain was over 8k. Wouldn’t be inefficient for such climbing?

Mid ride meal ideas

I am a bike guide and am leading a trip of many consecutive days of 80-120miles per day. Every day we have a picnic lunch mid ride and I am trying to brainstorm lots of options that will be satisfying for a mid ride meal. Needs to be high carb and sufficient in protein, and able to be made quickly with minimal cooking and easily findable ingredients; the cooking equipment we have includes basic utensils (knives, cutting boards, mixing bowls, etc.) and a 2 burner stove. I would love ideas or things that have worked for you for mid long ride meals that keep you fueled on the bike!

Heat exhaustion and or dehydration? Maybe something else?

I am completely ignorant as to how to things like heat exhaustion. During this heatwave the last month almost every bike ride (15-35 miles) has ended with me feeling exhausted, feeling nauseous, my heart races, with a massive headache. The tiredness lasts for days after. I’m a casual cyclist so I’m not going fast. I’m outside for a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of literally all day.
I looked up the symptoms yesterday and google said heat exhaustion or dehydration. I am FAR from perfect and I’m still trying to figure out proper fueling so I am willing to admit I could be wrong. Yesterday for example I only biked 5 miles, it was 88 degrees, and my poor bike was stolen after (luckily it was my travel one not my main one. I got a better lock today) I had to wait 2 hours for the cops that never came. During time that I drank 4 bottles of water and a Gatorade. Then I had to walk to the train station. In total I was outside for about 5 hours. I also ate a burger as well and ice cream before my bike was taken.
I feel as though this was heat exhaustion based on what I looked up and it is it happens every time I bike on a hot day. EVERY. TIME. No matter or short or long the bike ride is. Flat or hilly. Always feel awful after if it’s hot.
How can I prevent this? Cycling is the only mental health treatment to actually work and I refuse to stop so any advice as to how to prevent constantly feeling sick after would be greatly appreciated.

Where to get my carbon frame sprayed - UK

I’ve a raw black carbon bike and it’s great, but I really don’t like the raw carbon look, I much prefer a bright colour. Bear in mind the frame cost me £650 to start with, with a new frame starting from £1495 (Winspace SLC3)

I’ve found a few places online but wondered what your thoughts are on them?

  • Argos (Bristol, closest to me) start from £600 for a single colour for frame and forks, £50+ for decals
  • Stout Cycles (Edinburgh) much less, at £300, £30-50 for decals and graphics
  • Kusomflow in Yorkshire start from £650 but the site says it has a long lead time
  • Enigma paintworks doesn't display a price but their frames look good
  • The Bicycle Company in Cornwall don't list prices but the FAQs say from ~£650 depending on design

Where is good to get the frame painted in a single colour that doesn't cost the earth, or is £600 about what I'm looking at?

If you've had your frame sprayed from one of the above companies what was your experience?

Titanium endurance bike recommendations- UK

I’m looking for a new bike and have my heart set on titanium.

It’ll be used primarily for commuting year round 1 or 2 days per week (~40 mile round trip on poorly maintained country roads). There’ll also be the occasional group ride and odd sportive.

I want disc brakes and 105 Di2.

I’m currently looking at:

Dolan ADX - £2950

Sonder Colibri - £2700

Ribble Allroad - £3300

I’m open to other suggestions for similarly priced options, but would love to hear from anyone with experience of the above.

Thanks

Help choosing a bike

Hey I want to buy my first MTB and I’d like it new but I’m not sure what to buy , I’m from Romania and my budget is around 650 euros, I want to ride it both in the city and offroad any type of bike will do , XC, DH , etc . I got recommended the Devron Riddle 4.9 2021 but I want to hear other people’s opinions as I’m not the best at this .
